•Chapter One•
"911 what is your emergency?" The
dispatcher lady asked nonchalantly as she
responded to the emergency call my mom
was making.
"My daughter!...sshee, she's struggling to
breathe again, hurry and come please!" She
told them frantically. I was suffering yet
another attack; I have been suffering from
this respiratory disease for 16 of my 19
years of living and this disease was much
worse than asthma, bronchitis or any other
respiratory illness.
"What exactly is the problem ma'am?" The
dispatcher asked
"SHE'S STRUGGLING TO BREATHE!" She yelled
at the dispatcher angrily because in her mind
she had made herself clear from the
beginning
"Ohkay ma'am, I'm gonna need you to come
down---"
"Don't tell to calm down! Just send an
ambulance now!" My mother shouted
"What's the address to your residence
ma'am?" The dispatcher asked trying to get
this over with as quickly as she could. My
mom told her the address and she would
send one right now; she hung the phone up
and turned to me
"It's gonna be ohkay baby, just hang in
there" she said as I nodded slowly, still
struggling to breathe, my eyelids getting
heavy as I slowly closed them, my world
turning black.

*Ara*

The next day I woke up early and immediately went to work. I wasn't yet ready to deal with my mom knowing that she'll try to justify her situation; I had yet to speak to Chris or Lavender. I wondered if they were avoiding me for some reason. And since last night I've experienced occasional coughs that wouldn't stop, and my head started to ache a bit. I shrugged it off and thought it nothing more to be the current stresses in my room. So I tried as best as I could to continue with work.
It was almost lunchtime and I was attending to my last customer. I was handing them the bill and excused myself to allow them to pay it comfortably. I went to the staff room to rest a bit. I sat down and rested my head
on my arm, I felt very tired and wanted to sleep. I didn't understand why, I slept for ten straight hours last night.

"Are you okay there Ara?" I looked up and saw Claire looking at me with a worried expression on her face. I tried to give her a reassuring smile.

"Uh huh. I'm just a little bit tired, that's all."

"Are you sure? You know if you're not feeling well you could always go hom--"

"No Claire." I told her cutting her off, "I'm fine really, just tired. I'm about to go to lunch now anyway so I'll be fine." I stood up and prepared to return back to the customer I had left.

She continued staring at me and finally sighed, "Okay. I'll take your word for it. But should anything change with you, don't hesitate." I smiled and nodded and left the room. When I returned to the table, the customer had already left but he did leave the bill on the table. I took it and checked if he had put the money in, and after confirming it, I went to ring out the bill on the computer. As I did that, I noticed Lavender coming in at the door. I finished ringing out the bill and they noticed me and walked over.

"Lavender, I've called you all evening yesterday. Where were you?" I asked and made my way out the register desk to stand in front of her. She had a very grim expression on her face.

"I need to tell you something Ara. And trust me you won't like it." She said and I furrowed my eyebrows at her.

"O-k-ay, well I'm on my break now so you want to sit down on one of the booths?" I asked her and she nodded; so I took her hand and led her to one booth that was at the far back. We both sat down and looked at each other, she looked like she didn't sleep a wink last night, her hair was a mess but it still looked okay to anyone else.

"Ara, you know I love you right? And we've been best friends for God knows how long." She started

"Where are you going with this Lav?"

"Just know that I did it for your own good Ara." I became more confused

"What? What did you do?"

"He's lying to you Ara. He's been lying this whole time."

"Who?"

"Odis." She whispered it and I wouldn't have heard her if I wasn't familiar with the name.

"What? What are you talking about?"

"He's a fraud, a fake. He's been doing this for years now. He has a degree in psychology so he knows how to play with your mind. Instead of giving you the necessary treatment and medicine for you to get better, he gives you vitamin supplements so you can have energy and make you think you're healed but all the while he's kil---" I shook my head and cut her off.

"Liar! Don't lie to me Lavender Johnson. I know you don't like him, but lying about him won't do anything but make me mad!" Her eyes bugged out.

"I'm not lying! Here," she handed me papers that were rolled up, "Look at these papers. Chris and I printed them out---" I instantly became angry when she mentioned Chris' name, meaning that he had been in on this too. I shoved the papers back to her and she became angry as well.

"Look at them Ara! Don't be so hard headed. This is for your own good."

"I won't look at them. You can't make me." I told her calmly, "If anything, you're the liar. Stooping down this low Lavender, I can't believe you. That's why Chris didn't answer his phone. He was busy gathering stupid so-called evidence about Dr Odis."

"He's not a real doctor! He's not even Dr Odis, the real Dr Odis is dead." I chuckled coldly at her statemen. Right then I received a text. I looked at it and read it:

•Received: 13:09pm•
>Sender: Dr Odis<
[How about that lunch? I'm at Olive Garden...]

I replied with an "okay" and looked back at Lavender. I was about to reply to her previous statement when I heard Chris talking. I looked up at him with hurt eyes.

"How could you Chris? You know I wouldn't lie to you like this."

"Baby we're not lying. Everything Lavender told you is the truth." I stood up and gathered my things. Lavender stood up also. Chris was the first to ask.

"Where are you going Ara?"

"Lunch." I said nonchalantly and looked at both of them and shook my head.

"With who?" Lavender asked next

"Dr Odis."

"Ara you can't do that! Please don't do that! He's dangerous, he's a con artist. He's a murderer!" Chris bellowed in a whisper

"I'm going. Goodbye you two." And with that I left them, I heard Lavender say 'let her go Chris'. My heart was hurting in more ways than one as I made my way outside the restaurant. Now I have no one I could trust. My mom, my boyfriend and best friend all turned against me. Tears threatened to leave my eyes as I stopped a taxi. I got inside and settled.

"Olive Garden please."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"What's wrong?" I looked up at him and sighed as he took a sip of his beer.

"Everything's wrong doctor. Everyone I love and care about has turned their backs on me."

"Why is that?" I shrugged

"They don't like you." I told him honestly and looked at him.

"Oh? I'm sorry to hear that."

"They also think you're a medical fraud." His face became stoic and indifferent

"Well do you believe that Ara?" I shook my head

"No." He took my hands in his.

"You do trust me right? I'm not trying to harm you."

"I do."

"Good." He said and smiled

Lavender and I made our way to the automatic doors of the hospital. And once we got inside the institution I immediately headed to my office with her in toe. If this so-called doctor was a con artist, then there was going to be hell to pay with; I didn't want Ara to be taken away from me like this, especially by some selfish man who only thinks about satisfying his greed at other people's expense. Walking in I also noticed Tracy, she looked up at me and then at Lavender with a disgusted look on her face. I sighed and entered the opened elevator with Lavender.

"What the hell is wrong with that lady?" Lavender asked as the elevator ascended us to the fifth floor.

"Issues." I simply said to her. My mind was too caught up in Ara and that Dr Odis of hers. We remained quiet and waited until the elevator opened, I guess we were both caught up in our own thoughts to do anything. Once the elevator reached its destination, it opened and we stepped out. Once we got to my office I headed straight for the computer with all the doctor's profiles and background. I started it up and waited until it was fully lit up.

"Do you know his first name?" I turned to Lavender. She froze and turned her head to me.

"N-no. I didn't ask Ara; I'm sure she doesn't even know."

"Okay, okay. Let's work with what we have." I told her and sat down on the chair and typed in his name on the profile search. Waiting for the results seemed like an eternity, when it was only five seconds. The results yielded a match and we looked at it.

"Can't believe this." I said in a whisper, "it's not possible." I scrolled down looking at the rest of his profile.

"Bull!" Lavender shouted

"Keep it down, okay? My mentor might come here."

"I'm sorry Chris, I just can't believe he's clean."

"Yeah. It says he studied at Oxford and graduated at the top of his class. He worked at private hospitals mostly before branching on his own a few years back. He has no criminal record and no brushes with the law whatsoever."

"Check the patients' comments and recommendations at the bottom. See what they have to say about him." I nodded and scrolled further down.

"Here's one" I started reading out loud, "Thanks for changing my life doctor, you've provided a secure future for me. You'll be surely missed." I furrowed my eyebrows and looked at Lavender and she looked at me also.

"Go to the next one." I sighed and clicked on the next comment. I read it.

"To the best doctor in the world. I'll always love you, you helped my family a lot. May your soul rest in peace." My mouth dropped after finishing reading the last past.

"He's dead?" I asked no one in particular.

"What the hell is going on here! Chris check this man's picture." I seemed stuck and couldn't move. She sighed and took it upon herself and checked it. I was still in deep thought when I heard Lavender talking.

"Oh my goodness. That f***er! He's not even Dr Odis!" I looked up at the screen and confirmed it with my eyes.

"The real Odis is dead."

I sat impatiently waiting for my mom to return from "work". To pass by time I tried calling Chris but he didn't answer; I texted him and got no reply. I wondered if he was avoiding me for some reason. I contemplated going to his house but decided against it, fearing I'd miss my mom. I called Lavender but she too wasn't answering her phone, so I thought she was spending time with her one and only. The door opened and I looked up at it and noticed my mom coming in with a bag full of food. She smiled at me and I didn't return it. Her smile dropped slightly.

"Hey pumpkin. What's wrong?" She said walking to the kitchen and putting the bag on the counter.

"You're what's wrong mom!" I said and followed her to the kitchen. She looked at me with a confusing stare.

"Don't yell at me Ara. I'm your mother, now you remember that."

"Oh please mom. What kind of mother lies to her child?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Oliver was here. He told me the truth about you having no job." She looked away and went to sit down in the t.v room.

"Say something!"

"That is the last time you will yell at me Ara." I took a deep breath and sighed, sitting down also.

"Mom what is going on with you? Tell me." Tears started to form on her eyes

"I lost my job, okay Ara! I've been without work for seven months now. I've been getting all that money from Oliver. All the hospital bills, everything! It's Oliver's money. You'd be dead right now if it weren't for him."

"What about his wife mom? His kids?"

"We're not in a relationship Ara. It's sort of an agreement."

"He gives you money in exchange for sex and home-cooked meals? I'm disgusted mom." I stood up.

"I did what I had to do!"

"There are a lot of things you could've done mom, like looking for another job!" I said and started coughing roughly.

"Ara, are you okay?" She said and came to me, I stepped back from her.

"I'm fine! I don't even want to talk to you right now." I said and walked upstairs to my room and locked it. I laid on the bed and started coughing again. When the coughs didn't stop I stood up and went to the bathroom to drink water. I felt a little better after that. I looked at my reflection on the mirror. My eyes were red from all the crying I did earlier on and my hair was a mess on its own. My mom was starting to make my life hell. I got out the bathroom and went to lie on bed again. I grabbed my phone and texted Chris for the last time tonight.

'I love you...'

Chapter Five
*Ara*
"How do you feel?" He asked in a
coaxing voice as if he were talking to a
child, trying to soothe it.
"She feels fine. Can we go now? We've
been here for God knows how long." I
looked at Lavender in disbelief as she
answered the question for me with a hint
of attitude in her voice.
"I'm feeling better than ever. Thank you
so much for everything Doctor." I said
looking back at him with a reassuring
smile on my face, and I immediately
heard Lavender scoff.
It's three months now since I've been on
the treatment and it's as if I never even
had the disease. More than ever I was
thankful to Dr Odis for everything. And
while I was being thankful, my mom and
Lavender weren't fond of Dr Odis and his
'healing ways', as Lavender would say.
They didn't like that he charged a
ridiculous amount of money; over the
past three months, he had charged
amounts ranging from $6 500 to $10
000. My mom paid for all the treatment,
but she often told me that it was her
new boyfriend who paid for everything.
And once all of this was said and done,
she told me that I should personally go
and thank him. But I certainly wasn't
going to do that, unless I wanted to get
sick again. I don't know why, but I really
cannot stand that man. Lavender on the
other hand insisted that I let Chris take
care of my health, stating that she
trusted him more than Dr Odis, but I
didn't want to be a burden to Chris. I just
wanted to be his girlfriend. And I knew
I'd tell him after I was done with the
treatment about the extent of Dr Odis'
treatment, which was today. All he knew
was that I was feeling better and to his
knowledge, it was because Dr Odis
treated me, and treated me once.
"I'm happy to hear that Ara. Progress is
good", He said and smiled also before
standing up. "But at the same time I'm a
little bit sad that I won't be seeing you
again now that you're fully recovered."
"Well how about we meet up for lunch
some time?" I said standing up also and
Lavender followed
"Ara!" I looked at Lavender and shook
my head, diverting my attention to the
doctor again
"Plus it'll be my treat. Just to say thank
you for all of this."
"Certainly Ara. We'll keep in touch." I
smiled at him and prepared to leave with
Lavender. Once we were out completely,
Lavender started talking.
"Really Ara? Inviting some old grumpy
man who claims to be the world's best
doctor for lunch? What's wrong with
you!" She said and whistled for a taxi to
stop. I stood next to her.
"I'm just trying to be nice that's all."
"What! Healing you is his job Ara. If it is
anyway." I looked at her slighty offended
"And what's that suppose to mean? I
know you don't like him but---" she cut
me off.
"I'm not the only one Ara. Your mom and
Chris also."
"You all don't understand. This man you
all don't like...just saved my life." I told
her confidently and motioned for a taxi
to stop. They just kept passing by.
"What's wrong with these taxis today." I
mumbled and motioned for another one.
"I don't want us to fight Ara." I looked at
her as she spoke, "I just love you too
much and I don't want your life and
future to be in the wrong hands." I
sighed as she finished.
"I understand and thank you for that. But
I assure you that this guy is the real
deal. Believe me Lav, okay?" I said and
smiled at her. She pulled me in for a hug
and smiled against my ear.
"Okay." She whispered
---------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------------
---
"Mom! I'm home." I called out as I got
inside and closed the door and locking it,
taking off my jacket and throwing it on
the couch. After getting no response I
called out again.
"Mom!" I went upstairs to look for her.
"Mom?" I sighed and gave up and took
out my phone to call her. After four rings
I gave up again and hung up the phone. I
went back downstairs to make myself
food. The door opened and I looked
towards it and saw Oliver letting himself
in. He looked up at me and smiled.
"How did you let yourself in? I locked."
He held up the house keys, still holding
his smile.
"These. Your mom made a spare for me."
He said and sat down and turned the t.v
on and settled on basketball. I squinted
my eyes at him and took the sandwich I
had made and went to join him where he
was. After a few minutes of awkward
silence, I decided to speak up.
"So my mom's still at work?" He looked
up from his t.v programme with a
confused look on his face.
"Huh?" I cleared my throat and
repeated.
"My mom. She's at work?" I asked biting
into my sandwich.
"That's what she told you girl?" He asked
and chuckled and sat up straight. I
looked at him with a confused look.
"What do you mean Oliver?" He chuckled
again and changed the channel, simply
ignoring my question.
"Oliver!"
"Don't yell at me little girl." He said
before continuing, "Your mom's at the
shop downtown. Doing some shopping
for dinner tonight." He told me calmly
and focused on the t.v again.
"Why isn't she at work?" He looked at
me like I had two heads.
"Work? Where do you get that from little
girl? Your mom lost her job months ago.
Didn't she tell you?" My mouth dropped
open and looked at him in shock.
"What! You're lying." I told him and stood
up. I couldn't believe him, I wouldn't
believe him. After all, he was creepy
Oliver.
"Don't believe me? Call her yourself." He
said and turned the t.v off. He stood up
and headed for the door, about to leave
as quickly as he came. "I'll come back
later."
"Wait!" He turned around and looked at
me as his hand held the doorknob.
"Where the hell did she get all that
money from then?" He laughed out loud
at me and I somehow felt embarrassed.
"Get with the program Ara. Your mom
knows how to hustle." And with that he
opened the door and left. I sat down on
the couch and started sobbing, reality
sinking in.

"Okay, okay I'm coming!" I yelled and
went downstairs as the knocks became
louder.
"Whois it?" I asked at the outside
stranger.
"Lavender. Open up Chris, please."
"Lavender?" I mumbled to myself and
continued to open it.
"Hey. What are you doing here? Is there
something wrong with Ara?" I asked and
let her inside.
"I'm sorry to just barge in like this. But
I'm worried about her."
"What happened to her? Come on, let's
sit down. You want something to drink?"
I asked and she shook her head and I
ushered her to the t.v room.
"That damn doctor." I furrowed my
eyebrows at her as she sat down.
"Which one? Odis?" she nodded. "I
thought she stopped going to him a long
time ago. She told me she stopped." I
shook my head and sighed.
"I don't trust him Chris. And you're a
doctor. Find out what he's about. He just
came from nowhere and claimed he's
the best."
"I can't believe her." I said quietly, still
disgesting the fact that she lied to me.
"I don't believe HIM!" Lavender shouted
and I looked at her with hurt eyes.
"I know where we can find some stuff
about him. We'll have to go to the
hospital though. You okay with that?"
"I'm okay with anything Chris." she said
and stood up.
"Let's go then."

Run it:-)

RunIt!!

Lol at Justin. I love him and ara together they are so cute!
Run it!!!

*Chris*
I woke up the next day and laid on my
back, staring absently at the ceiling for
approximately 15 minutes trying to
prepare myself to wake up before
hearing my phone ring. I glanced over
at it on my nightstand and removed
my hand which was resting on my
forehead and used it to reach for it and
answer whoever was calling. Without
looking at the screen for the caller I
immediately answered.
"Hello", I answered in my groggy voice
that stated that I didn't want to be
disturbed.
"Chris. How you doing baby?", I smiled
as I realised who it was.
"I'm good mom. Why are you calling so
early? It's barely eight." I checked the
time on the clock on the wall, the time
was 7:09am.
"I just wanted to check up on my son.
Is that a problem now?" She asked with
a hint of laughter in her voice.
"Yes! Especially when I feel like she's
up to something."
"I'm not up to anything. Scout's honor
Chris; and you know I don't say that
unless I mean it." I rolled my eyes and
continued to smile.
"Well this must be the first time,
cause...and now you know I don't say
this unless I mean it---"
"Boy!" She cut me off and I laughed
"You lyin'!" I finished off. "Now tell me
why you called ma. I want to go back to
sleep." I whined and she laughed.
"Okay, okay. Now you know that your
dad and I are celebrating our 26th
anniversary right?" She asked as I
smiled at that. After all these years, my
mom and dad were still going strong.
It's as if they love each other more each
day. I also wanted that for myself; I
wanted to experience it myself.
"Yes ma. What are you planning to do
for him?"
"I don't know. I don't want to buy him
something cause I know that's what
he'll do for me."
"How about taking him to see Josh
Groban?" I inquired
"No I did that for our 24th Chris." She
said as she whined.
I sighed and gave up immediately. I
knew my mom, and every idea I'll come
up with will be turned down. Makes me
wonder why she even called in the first
place.
"Okay mom. How about you call me
when you've figured it out and we'll
take it from there. Besides; I also have
something to tell you."
She squealed in excitement, "Pray tell
Chris! Is it a lady? Oh it is!" I rolled my
eyes and chuckled.
"Mom! I'll call you later. I have to get
ready, okay?"
"You suck Chris, but okay. I'll call later. I
love youuuu!" I laughed at her
craziness.
"I love you too mom." I said and hung
up the phone. I sighed and slowly got
out of bed. I made my way to the
bathroom and brushed my teeth. After
finishing that part, I turned on the
shower and got in, allowing the
moderately hot water to cleanse me,
relaxing my insides in the process.
-------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------
After finishing everything I was
suppose to do I went downstairs and
prepared to leave and pick up Ara for
our Amusement Park date. I made my
way to the kitchen and picked up an
apple. I then checked my pockets to
make sure everything was in place.
"Good." I mumbled to my self. My
phone rang and I rolled my eyes. I
definitely have to switch if off when I'm
with Ara.
"Hello?" I answered in a low annoyed
voice
"Hey Dr Brown!" I rolled my eyes at the
caller
"Hey Trace. What's up?" I said making
my way out the apartment.
"Nothing much. You know how I get
bored when we get days off."
"You do?" I asked her as I closed my
door and locked it and went to press
the down button on the elevator.
"Yes I do Dr Brown. I told you that like
last week."
"Really? Cause I don't remember
Trace." She sighed and sucked her
teeth in annoyance. I got in the
elevator and the doors closed and went
down.
"Youdon't remember anything I tell
you Chris." I laughed at her change of
words
"Oh so it's Chris now? Ouch Trace, that
hurts." I told her and exited the
elevator as it opened.
"Good. It's suppose to." I laughed
quietly at her
"And why exactly did you call?" I asked
her and went out the lobby to my car.
"Well I was wondering if we could hang
out together. We could go bowling or
go to the movies...whatever." This time
it was my turn to suck my teeth.
"I can't today Trace. I'm going
somewhere with my girl." And
everything went silent on the other line
"Tracy?" I called her as I got inside the
car.
"Wow" she started, "I didn't know you
were seeing someone. I'm going to stop
bothering you now."
"You don't both---" I stopped and
looked at my phone as the line went
dead. She hung up on me. I shook my
head and tossed the phone on the
passenger side. I started the car and
made my way to pick up Ara.
-------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------
*Ara*
I was waiting for Chris to come pick me
up. I stood outside on the porch and
looked around my neighborhood and
its people. I smiled and thought of Dr
Odis, the man who has helped me get
my health back on track so I could
enjoy my life with family, Lavender and
Chris. My smile quickly turned into a
frown when I saw the person who was
walking towards me.
"Who you lookin' all fly for?" He asked
as he eyed my attire.
"None of your business Justin." I
answered and rolled my eyes.
"I know it's not a guy. Nobody wants
you anymore Ara." I looked at him and
shook my head; "just get with me
again yo. At least I can tolerate your
behind."
"One wonders why I even dated you
Justin." I told him as I saw Chris' car
pull up.
"Who the hell's that Ara?"
"None of your business." I said and
went to him. He stepped out and
smiled at me. He looked great. He
greeted me with a sensual kiss for the
whole neighborhood and Justin to see.
He broke the kiss when he needed air
and rested his forehead against mine.
"I missed you", he started, "It's been
forever since I last saw you baby." I
giggled at his exaggeration.
"I missed you too", I told him in a soft
tone.
"Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah." I said and pecked his lips one
more time.
He let go of me and went to open the
door for me. I thanked him and went
inside. He closed it and went to his
also. I looked up and saw Justin looking
at me in disbelief. I smiled and winked
at him as my baby took off.
-------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------
"Chris! I wanna play that one!" I
squealed and jumped up and down.
"We've already played that one my
angel." He said as he pulled me to
Tornado, the most terrifying in the
park.
"I want to play it again." I told him and
pouted. Since I didn't have a car yet, I
wanted to ride and drive the cars.
"Okay baby, but after that one it's
Tornado. Deal?" I smiled up at him,
took my camera and leaned back
against his shoulder and looked at it. I
took the picture.
"Deal." I said and kissed his cheek.
He smiled also and took one of my sour
worms. I slapped his shoulder and he
cried out in pain with the sour worm in
his mouth. I wanted to laugh at him.
"You touch, you die."
"Gee Ara. I didn't know you had some
man power in you."
"And now you do." I told him and
winked.
"Now that was sexy" he said in a
playfully seductive manner, "Do it
again!" He said sounding like an
excited child. I laughed at him.
"You're crazy baby." He pulled me
closer to him and kissed my lips.
"Only for you my angel." I giggled and
pulled away.
"You know what? I think I want to go to
Tornado now." His eyes lit up
"Really?" I nodded my head
"Mhmm. We'll ride the cars later."
He kissed my cheek and took one of
my sour worms again and grabbed my
hand.
"Let's go baby!" I laughed at him and
shook my head.
"You're crazy baby!"

Run it!!!! :-)

That doc has fishy written all over him...

*Ara*
The day after I went to the doctor and
spent the night with Chris, I ended up
sleeping the whole morning. Claire told
me to take the next three days off until I
fully felt a hundred percent. After thirty
minutes of fighting and telling her I did
feel a hundred percent, she eventually
won and forced me into a three day sick
leave. I couldn't spend the day with
Chris, in fact I won't be seeing him at all
today. He told me he'd be working until
midnight with the way things were going
at the hospital. So here I was, all cooped
up in bed and dreading to get out of it.
I glanced at the clock that was set on the
nightstand and was surprised to find that
it was nearly two thirty. I groaned and
slowly lifted myself from the bed and sat
on it. I checked my phone for any
messages or calls left by anyone. I saw 3
new messages and 1 missed call; one
message was from Chris, the other was
from Lavender and the other one was
from Dr Odis, and the missed call was
from Chris. I sighed and remembered
that I had to meet up with Dr Odis today,
I had to pay him for his services. He said
he preferred I pay him after I knew the
medicine he gave me worked, and since
last night I called and told him the good
news, he said it would be fine if I payed
him today. I also told him about my
disease, and he said with the pills I'm
taking, I'll be epiglottitis free and I
wouldn't have to check myself into the
hospital every year. I hadn't told Chris,
my mom and Lavender about it yet. I
knew how Chris would feel about it, he
said he was okay with everything but his
eyes told a different story. I had to see
Lavender first, I couldn't tell her these
type of good news over the phone. And
as for my mom, I'd first have to make
amends with her before I could even say
anything to her. I read Lavender's
message first, I'd save the best for last,
which was Chris'.

[ Good morning my angel. It's busy as
hell in here and I find myself wanting to
talk to you nonetheless. I can't talk to
you though, my mentor will give me lip.
I'll call you later babe...]
I smiled and got up to take a shower.
After dressing up I went downstairs and
prepared to leave. On the last step I took
I saw my mom sitting on the couch,
paging through a magazine and drinking
her afternoon tea. She looked up at me
and then down at her magazine again. I
sighed, I didn't want us to be like this. I
loved my mom, and this silence was
really tearing me apart.
"Mom" I called her and walked up to
where she was. She looked up at me and
I could see the hurt in her eyes.
"Yes?" She said putting the magazine
down.
"I'm sorry" She sighed and I continued,
"It's really not my business to interfere in
your life. I'm sorry mom, I was acting
childish and selfish. Forgive me please?"
I concluded and looked at her with
pleading eyes and pouted at her. She
giggled and walked up to me. She first
had this serious look on her face, but
quickly softened and the frown she had
curled into a smile.
"I'm sorry too Ara" she said and hugged
me, "I've been the worst example of a
mother these past few days, I should've
been more considerate. Forgive me
please?" She asked as she let go and
reciprocated my actions of pouting and
pleading eyes and I laughed.
"There's nothing to forgive" I told her
truthfully.
"Good! Now come let's sit down so you
can tell me why I've been seeing this
little glow in your eyes." She dragged
me to the couch with her.
"Moomm! I don't have a glow in my
eyes" I said trying to defend myself
"Mhmm, tell that to the judge. Now who
is it?" She crossed her legs and waited
for my answer
I sighed and decided to tell her about
Chris.
"Well, it's Chris"
"Chris? Who's Chris?" She asked in a
confused state
"Chris mom, Dr Brown from the hospital"
I concluded quietly and she immediately
opened her eyes in shock.
"Dr Brown? The Dr Brown I know?"
"You can call him Chris mom, it sounds
weird when we both refer to him as 'Dr
Brown' when we're---" she cut me off
"How long have you been going out?
How old is he? How did I not see this all
this time?" She bombarded me with
questions
"Mom please, one question at a time."
She quieted down and waited for me to
answer her.
"We've been dating for two months now.
And I couldn't tell you because we were
still not on speaking terms, and Chris is
26 mom."
"Wow. It runs in the family huh? Your
dad was 7 years my senior." I laughed at
her comment and decided to tell her
about Dr Odis. As she took her magazine
to read it again, I decided to tell her.
"Mom, I also found someone who'll cure
my disease. He's a doctor." She looked
up again and smiled
"Really? Is it Chris?"
"N-no, it's Dr Odis" she furrowed her
eyebrows in confusion.
"I don't know him."
"Well he's really good mom. He gave me
these pills and they work like a charm.
I'm feeling a lot better now." I told her
trying to hide my excitement.
"When did you go see him sweety?"
"Yesterday. And I have to go there now
to pay him."
"Why didn't you pay him yesterday? And
how much does it cost?" I frowned a bit,
thinking that I didn't
"I don't know. I forgot to ask him, but I'll
find out when I go there." I said standing
up and preparing to go
"Wait, I'll go with you. I wanna see him."
"O-okay" I said as we left the house. I
texted Lavender to raincheck on our
lunch. She texted back with a sad smiley
and said okay.
---------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------
We arrived at Dr Odis' office and
knocked on his door, after a few seconds
we had a faint come in and entered. He
was sitting on his office chair and
seemed to be busy with a stack of
papers; he looked up and smiled when I
entered his office, but his smile dropped
a little when he saw my mom enter a
little after me.
"Miss Ara" he said standing up to greet
me. I smiled at him
"Dr Odis" I shook his hand, "This is my
mom, but you can call her Mrs Powa."
"Ah yes, good day Mrs Powa. It's nice to
finally meet you." He said and shook her
hand.
"Likewise doctor. My daughter likes you,
so I wanted to see you myself."
"Certainly. If you may" he gestured
towards the two chairs for us to sit. He
took his original seat in front of us and
we sat down as well, passing a thank you
to him.
"So shall we start?" I asked him, "how
much will it cost?"
"Uh, seeing that we obtained the
medicine from a very elite
pharmaceutical company. I decided on
the best price I could" he paused, "a
thousand dollars will be enough for the
bottle."
My mom was the first to respond, "What!
For small bottles of pills!"
"Mrs Powa like I said they're---"
"From a very elite pharmaceutical
company, yeah I know." She turned to
look at me, "Ara baby, really? A thousand
dollars for a bottle of pills."
I was shocked also, but since I couldn't
take them back I tried to calm the whole
situation down.
"They're rare mom, not only did they aid
my fever but they'll cure my disease
also. Mom I promise this will be worth it
in the long run. Mom, I promise you, you
won't regret it when the pills are finished
and my disease cured."
"Okay, but how where you going to pay
for them if I wasn't here?"
"I have six hundred dollars on me, so"
she scoffed and rolled her eyes.
"I'm sure I have four hundred on me" she
said and dug in her purse in search for
the money. After successfully finding it,
she took mine and gave the total to Dr
Odis. He happily took it from her hands.
"Thank you Mrs Powa. You won't regret
this one bit."
"Better not" she mumbled quietly and I
playfully glared at her. She stood up, not
wanting to be here anymore.
"And as for you Miss Ara, I'll see you on
our next appointment." He said to me
and smiled.
"Next week Tuesday right?"
"That's right Miss Ara." I smiled and said
goodbye. He also said goodbye to my
mom. Once we were outside, my mom
started to talk.
"I just hope he won't ask for any further
payment on your next appointment." I
laughed at her
"I'm sure he won't mom. And thanks for
the money you paid." I told her sincerely
"Yeah yeah Ara. That visit made me
hungry now anyways. Wanna head to
McDee's?" I laughed at her trying to
sound young
"No problem, McDee's is fine" I said
mocking her and holding onto her arm as
we went to a McDonald's restaurant
which was in front of Dr Odis' building.
---------------------------------------------------------

*Chris*
"11:30" I told myself as I entered my
apartment. I was exhausted to say the
least, but at the same time I wanted to
see her. After deciding against it, I called
her instead. After three rings she picked
up.
"Hey baby" I smiled at her soft voice
"Hey bae. What are you doing angel?"
"I was about to sleep. But I
couldn't...guess I was waiting to hear
your voice first."
I chuckled at her, "I'm glad you couldn't
sleep baby. All day I've been thinking
about you, and talking to you soothes
me. Imagine if I didn't hear your voice
today, I would've died" I said and laid on
my bed, looking up at the ceiling and
she laughed.
"Boy stop. Lying doesn't do you any good
you know?" She asked softly and I just
shook my head as if she saw me.
"I'm not, I swear. But what are you doing
tomorrow?"
"Nothing really, I'll just sit and watch tv
and wait for you to come back from
work." I smiled at her response
"Well tomorrow I got the day off from
work. So how about we go out? We can
go to the amusement park that just
opened down town."
"I'd like that baby. What time should I be
ready?"
"Say about elevenish? I'll come pick you
up."
"Thanks. I'll see you tomorrow then."
"Aight, goodnight my angel." I told her
softly
"Goodnight Chris." She said in low voice
and we both hung up.
I continued to stare at the ceiling and
smiled thinking about my Ara until sleep
took over me.

It seems like its getting worse :-( I hope there's a miracle
Run it

I hate that ara is sick. I feel like things are going to go downhill from here.

Chapter Four

*Ara*

"So it's the chicken schnitzel, large portion of chips, steak, no calamari on the side, spinach and samoosas, correct?" I recited the man's order to him

"Don't forget those little veggies. And please, may I please have a refill on the wine?" He said as he held up his almost empty glass

"Of course" I told him and excused myself from him, who I learnt was Mr Fossen, the greediest human I've ever came across with. Everyday, he'll come and order a buffet for himself during the afternoon and then immediately go home to his wife who'll cook him a mean meal. I really didn't understand this man, but he really wasn't my problem. I had other things to worry about.

It's been two months since I've been an employee here, and two months since Chris & I started being in a relationship. And while two things were going great in my life, there were also two things also were going sour. My mom & I still weren't on the best of terms, we were just tolerating each other, which was saddening because I wanted to tell her about Chris. Plus about two weeks ago I had started to feel really tired; and at first I brushed it off, thinking it was because of the June heat, but after talking to Chris about it yesterday, he suggested I go to the doctor today. When I refused to go, he seemed to accept my decision until he called me this morning and told me he had set an appointment for me. Since I had chosen the doctor, I eventually agreed. I knew I couldn't be mad at him, he was only looking out for me. I glanced down at my watch to look at the time; it was one thirty, thirty minutes until my appointment. I decided to go now, at least I'll be on time.

"There you go Ricky" I said as I entered the kitchen where Mr Fossen's order would be done. I hadn't him the paper filled with the order.

"Thanks Kiwi" he said smiling and I rolled my eyes at the nickname he gave me. I still don't know why he gave me that one, but he said something about me being edible and soft. I left the kitchen and went straight to Claire, the manager, to tell her that I was ready to leave. As I approached her, my fatigue levels rose and I just wanted to lie down and sleep.

"I'm ready to leave now" she smiled at me, and it quickly frowned as she looked at my sweaty face

"Are you sure you don't want me to take you there Ara?" I quickly shook my head 'no'

"I'm fine Claire, really" I assured her.

"Okay, I'll take your word for it. But call me as soon as you get there"

"I will, thanks." I told her and I went to the staff room to take off my uniform. As soon as I stepped outside, I pulled out my phone and went to Chris' name. I smiled as I found it. Although we've been dating for two months, it felt like a long time. He's the most amazing man I've ever come across with. I was falling hard and fast for, and I didn't care. I quickly sent a text to him:

[I'm on my way to the doctors. I'll call you when I get there.]

After I finished my text to him, I motioned for a taxi to stop. Hoping that nothing was seriously wrong with my health.

*Chris*

I was with Tracy, the nurse who had a crush on me. We were taking a ten minute break and we stood on the receptionist's desk, I was leaning against it with my back and she stood in front of me. I took a sip of the coffee that we had made as I stared at her with a blank expression.

"...and then my mom suggested that I get a date for it" she concluded as I looked at her with furrowed eyebrows

"What for?" I asked and she sighed in defeat

"Haven't you been listening to anything I've been saying to you?"

"Sorry Trace, I'm just tired I guess" I said with a shrug and she rolled her eyes

"The wedding that's coming up this weekend. And I think you should be my date" she said with excitement in her voice.

"The wedding's this weekend?" I asked as I took another sip of my coffee and she huffed

"Dr Brown!" She whined, "please pay attention."

I sighed and stopped leaning against the desk that supported my weight.

"Fine. Start over" I paused, "please" and she smiled at me before starting to retell her story to me. She opened her mouth to speak when my phone beeped, indicating that I had just received a text. I took my phone out my pocket and smiled when I saw it was from Ara.

"Sorry Trace, it's important," I told her without even looking at her.

"Forget it Dr Brown. I gotta get back to work anyway" she said and walked away. I opened the text and read it:

•Sent: 1:40pm•
<Sender: Ara>
[I'm on my way to the doctors. I'll call you when I get there.]

The smile I had dropped from my face. Her symptoms were showing and once they do, they only get worse. She didn't know what was wrong with her, and I felt like s*** because I was torn between telling her the truth and keeping my mouth shut about it and waited until she found out herself. I couldn't wait until she got there, I wanted to talk to her now. I dialled her number to call her.

"Hey" she answered sounding tired.

"Hey angel. How are you feeling now?"

"Wayyy tired baby. I just wish you were here to carry me." She said

"I'm sorry. But I promise to come at your place after work my angel, I promise. Just..."

"Just what?" She asked curiously

"Just stay strong okay baby? Whatever the doctor tells you. I'll be with you every step of the way. Remember that."

"I will. Thanks Chris," she paused before continuing, "I just arrived now so I'll see you later."

"Yeah baby, later. Bye." I said just praying everything turns out okay.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

After work, as promised, I went to Ara's place to see her. I knocked on her door and moments later she opened the door and she smiled a very sincere smile. She looked a hundred times better than yesterday.

"Hey" I kissed her and closed the door behind after getting in.

"Hey" she told me after we pulled away from the kiss.

"So, what did the doctor say?"

She went to the lounge and sat down at one of the sofas and I joined her.

"Nothing really" she told me smiling, "he just said it was a fever and he gave me some pills. After I took them, I slept and woke up feeling a lot better" she said and kissed my cheek.

"Baby, are you sure you're okay?" She looked at me confused.

"I just wanna be sure that's all." I tried reassuring her

"Yeah I'm sure Chris. You set up the appointment remember?"

"You chose the doctor Ara."

"So you don't trust my instincts?"

"I don't trust the doctor. Let's not forget the way you found him. He just walks in a restaurant and tells you he's a doctor that has healed more than a thousand patients. What kind of doctor does that. Let's not forget that he doesn't have any credentials to show for it, only the ones he's told you." She looked up me with hurt eyes and I looked away.

"I trust him Chris. Nothing's wrong with me okay? Why can't you accept that? It seems like you want something to be wrong with me." After she said that I looked at her again.

"No Ara, that's not it, that's not it at all my angel. I just want you to be okay. That's all I want baby. I just want you to be with me for a very long time; a very, very long time." I kissed the corner of her lips, "that's all I want, you get that baby? And I wouldn't want your future to be in the hands of someone who's not trustworthy. Okay baby?" I whispered to her and turned her head towards me as I kissed her lips.

"I understand Chris. And I'm thankful to you for that. But I'm fine, I assure you. I'm no longer sick now, Dr Odis made sure of that" she kissed me again, "I promise you Chris."

"Promise?" I asked one last time.

"Promise, promise." She told me smiling and kissed me with all her might. I returned it and I slipped my tongue into her mouth and she happily accepted it as our mouths began to play. After we pulled away from the lack of oxygen, I pecked her lips one more time and smiled at her.

"Let's have a movie night." I suggested and her smile turned into a wide one.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah" I answered before kissing her again and going to the kitchen to make popcorn.

<Sender: Ara>

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

*Ara*

Two days after the dinner Chris and I had, I was still floating on a cloud. I was starting to really like him; never had I anticipated on finding what Chris gives and shows me; especially in the most unusual manner. I guess most spontaneous things work out well, I smiled at that thought. I was getting ready to go with Chris to the park, and since it was a Sunday, I knew the park would be tranquil and calm, just the way I liked it. I saw my mom making her way down the stairs and looked up at me as she approached the last step. I rolled my eyes and sat down on the couch, ignoring her presence.

"Oh is that how it's be like from now on Ara? Ignoring your own mother?" She spat and I scoffed.

"Basically"; I told her grabbing the remote and turning on the t.v. I settled for the news, like they were most interesting things on earth.

"Well you'll have to show me respect somehow, I am your mother and you live under my roof, don't you dare forget that!" I sighed

"I did respect you mom. Up until you decided to have an affair with a married man" I paused and looked at her before continuing, "You know he has two kids right? And I know both of them. You're too old for what you're doing and on top of that it's wrong."

"I know that Ara! I'm just doing what I can to survive." she said and walked to the kitchen, getting ready to prepare dinner.

I looked at her in confusion, "What? What's that suppose to mean?" She looked at me and opened her mouth to speak, but was interrupted by phone beeping indicating I had a text. I looked at her one last time and went to retrieve my phone from the lounge. I picked it up and realised it was from Chris.

•Received: 13:35pm•
>Chris>
| I'm outside my angel |

I smiled widely on the inside while trying to hide the smile from my mom. I was still curious to what she meant by the statement she made earlier, but I decided to ask her about it when I got back from my small date with Chris.

"Mom I'll be back", I told her as I made my way to the door.

"Where are you going? I'm making dinner Ara", she said as she looked at me with furrowed eyebrows, looking away from the pealed green peppers.

"Out; and don't worry about me with dinner. Cook for one" I turned away from her, hating that I was going to skip dinner cooked by my mom for the first time, but right now she was an annoyance to me. I finally got outside and saw Chris patiently waiting for me leaning against his car. He smiled upon seeing me, causing me to smile an even bigger one than his. As I approached him he held out his hands out for me to take them and I quickly obliged. Now holding my hands, he kissed me on my lips in a sweet yet passionate way. We pulled away from each other as I rested my forehead on his.

"Hey" he said coyly

"Hey" I replied back, never wearing my smile off my face.

"You look beautiful Ara." He stated and I looked down from blushing and he used his index finger to raise my head up again.

"And I mean it." He gently kissed my lips once more before pulling away.

"You ready?" He asked in that raspy voice that I thought was sexy. If I didn't know any better I'd think he was asking if I was ready to give myself to him, but I knew better so I quietly nodded and he let go of me and opened the passenger side, allowing me to get inside. I thank him and he smiled and closed the door. He jogged to his side and got in, closing his door as well. Before pulling off I took one last look at the house that my mom was inside. I shook my head as Chris pulled off.

-------------------------------------------------------

*Chris*

We arrived at the park and got out the car. There weren't many people here, just a few who were taking a walk to allow the Sunday food they had just eaten to settle in nicely in their tummies.

"Hey, let's go buy an ice cream. I see the ice cream van over there." I said and held her soft hands, walking to the van.

We bought two ice creams and went to a nearby bench to sit down and watch the scenery in front of us.

"This is nice." I started and she nodded in agreement, her mouth still full of the ice cream she enjoyed. Every time she ate her ice cream, I also did the same. I wanted us to finish it at the same time. "I'm happy that you chose to spend the afternoon with me. Thanks Ara." I concluded and looked at her as the sun made her look like a goddess.

"Well I couldn't say no to the free ice cream", she looked at me and chuckled and I smiled with her.

"Plus getting to spend the day with you again." She said and looked down and ate her ice cream again, leaving some of the flavors on her lip. I looked at her and smiled

"You got some ice cream on your---" she immediately widened her eyes in embarrassment and tried to roughly and quickly wipe it off. I put my hand on hers stopping her.

"Hey, let me do it for you", and with that I took it upon myself to kiss her ice cream off, gently licking it off her. After I knew it was completely off I stopped kissing and looked at her, noticing her red flushed face. I pecked her lips once more. I was in love with them.

"There, no more ice cream."

She giggled and looked away, "Thanks Chris."

It was then that I made the decision that I'd ask her what has been on my mind since I came from lunch. All I wanted was her to be mine and me to be hers. I didn't care that she had a fatal disease that could take her away from me. After all I'm a doctor, I can make it go away.

"Ara, earlier on I went to this Chinese restaurant for my Sunday lunch," she looked at me with a confused expression on her face, wondering where all of this was going. So I continued.

"And all the while that I've been there all I thought about was you. So I got you something from there." I took out a fortune cookie from my pocket and gave it to her.

"Chris, what is---"

"Open it" I held her ice cream for her as she opened it.

*Ara*

I opened the cookie and took out the paper inside it and read:

'Will you be my girlfriend?'

My heart immediately beat a hundred times its normal rate. I looked up at him and he had an expression on his face that I couldn't really read, kind of like an expression of hope.

I smiled widely and went up to kiss him. After I pulled away I looked at him

"Yes", and he returned the smile.

"Really?"

"Yes Chris. I would like nothing more than to be your girlfriend." I stated truthfully.

He kissed me with full force and I returned it with passion boring inside of me, after we ran out of breath we pulled away from each other and breathed. I smiled and took my ice cream from him, happy that I was finally his girl.
