“Just a few days before our first day of college, you excited?” Omari asked looking over at his girlfriend of one year and best-friend of seven.
“Yeah…I guess.” Dominique mumbled looking out the window
“Baby please don’t be like that, I know you wanted to go to UNC but USC is a really good school too.”
“Omari I could care less about the education because I’m going to get one regardless, I just had my heart set on being a Tar Heel ever since I can remember. Playing soccer for them was a dream and now I’m going to be playing for a school who isn’t even ranked. So could you please let me sit over here and mope?” she asked looking over at him.
Omari let out a sigh as he got off on the very next exit. He pulled off to the side and put the car in park.
“And in other NCAA sports related news Christopher Brown has officially been taken off of U of A’s roster. This is a complete shocker to the college basketball world! A definite shoe-in for the NBA has literally disappeared off the face of the planet. We’ve tried reaching out to the university but…”
Omari cut the radio off and looked to Dominique.
“Babe forgive me if I’m trying to put you in a better mood, but USC was the best choice for me. I swear to God I appreciate the sacrifice you made to be with me. But sweetie I want to go pro and this was the very best way.”
“Omari you were the number one running back in the nation, you put every single personal stat and national record to shame. You could’ve went to a school that had a class size of only the football team and you’d still get drafted!” Dominique explained irritated.
“But you’re the number one midfielder in the nation, so why not put your skills to use and get USC ranked?”
“Please leave my ego be.” She said rolling her eyes.
“What I gotta do to make you happy?”
“Keep driving and let me adjust to this at my own pace.” She said reaching in the back to grab a pillow.
Omari watched her turn in her seat towards the window while snuggling up to the pillow. He sat there for a second and let the guilt eat at him. She was right, he could’ve went to any school especially UNC who was also throwing offers at him, and he would’ve been drafted. He knew she knew he was bulls***ting her about great opportunities. In all honesty he wanted to move from the country. Austin was cool but not where he wanted to be, he wanted the glitz and glam the City of Angels had to offer. He wanted that celebrity feeling he knew he’d get playing for USC. He wanted her right there by his side to experience it with him. Two national number ones on one another’s arm would’ve been a good look for them. Constantly on Sports Center, sharing the cover of ESPN and Sports Illustrated magazine, the sky was the limit for this power couple. But above all else he loved her and couldn’t imagine them an entire country apart from one another. Omari would’ve absolutely died if she were to fall in love with another man, especially if it were his fault and selfishness had anything to do with it.
“Baby” he said reaching over and touching her shoulder.
“What Omari?” she grumbled half asleep into the pillow.
“Come to the back with me.” He said unbuckling his seatbelt and moving to the back of his Range Rover.
She rolled her eyes as she did as he requested. Omari was leaning up against the window with his legs stretched out and Dominique climbed in between them and laid up against his chest. They sat there for a few minutes in silence.
“Dominique I love you with all my heart baby and it’s killing me that you’re unhappy because of a decision I made and begged you to make. I need you sweetheart, I mean I could do this without you but nowhere near my fullest potential. I’d probably get my scholarship pulled from how horrible I’d be playing.”
“It’s ok Omari, I just need some time to adjust. I’m sure I’ll be happy here, I just have to get over the fact that my mascot is a damn condom.”
“It’s not a condom baby, it’s a Trojan.” Omari said laughing.
“Well when I think of Trojan I think of the condom.”
“I don’t see how.” Omari joked grinning.
“Just cause I don’t f*** don’t mean I don’t watch TV Ishmael. All of those ridiculous commercials it’s hard not to notice.” She said irritated.
“I’m just kidding baby, chill with the Ishmael.” He laughed again knowing that he was upsetting her from her use of his middle name.
“Whatever, so why we back here anyways?”
“Multiple reasons main one being that I just wanted to hold you for a little while. Secondly I’m a little tired from all the driving.”
“Who wanted to drive though?”
“Me but I just wanted to spend more time with you on this little road trip. If I’d of known you would’ve been acting like this I would’ve had my s*** shipped too and dealt with you on that short ass flight.” Omari teased through laughs.
Dominique quickly spun around in his arms and kept hitting him in his arms and chest. Omari was laughing the whole time while trying to contain her arms.
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I was just kidding baby.” He said still laughing.
“You play too damn much.” She laughed straddling his lap.
“But you still love me so deal with it.” He said leaning forward with his hands on her hips.
“Keep it up with that smart ass mouth of yours and I’ll be loving you from North Carolina.”
“Don’t play babe.” Omari said getting serious and making Dominique laugh even more.
He knew this to be true because just the day before they left UNC was calling her to make sure that she was completely sure about her decision.
“Now it’s your turn to stop tripping cause you know I ain’t leaving you.”
“You bet not break my heart like that.” Omari said leaning forward kissing her lips that were formed into a smile.
After a sweet make-out session the two sat there holding one another, having meaningless conversation and sharing laughs. The two were content with one another’s presence.
“Ok you, it’s time to go.” Dominique said getting off of his lap and making her way to the passenger seat.
“But I was enjoying myself.” Omari complained from the back.
“I was too but we gotta go baby, we’re only 6 hours or so out.”
“You say it like it’s not a long time.” Omari said making his way to the driver’s seat.
“It’s not” she said snuggling back up to her pillow but this time facing Omari.
“That’s because you’re not driving.” Omari huffed.
“Then maybe you should’ve listened when I told you we should fly.” She teased laughing.
“f*** you man” Omari laughed.
“Maybe one day.” She grinned.
Omari nodded his head while gazing at her.
“Given your past I know that this must be hard for you, but I really do appreciate your efforts and how patient you’re being with me.”
“It’s nothing ma, I love you and if you want to wait to make love then I’m willing to wait until you’re ready. Even if you want to wait these next four years until we get married I’ll gladly do it.” Omari smiled meaning every word he said.
“Trust me it won’t be that long.”
“No?” he smiled.
She smiled back and shook her head no.
“Can I get a round about time frame so I know when I need to be ready?”
“Nope, it’ll just have to be a surprise. Hold up…what you mean be ready?”
“Well I don’t want to disappoint you so I’ve been practicing to keep myself up to par. High five!” Omari said reaching out with his right hand.
“Eww baby that’s gross.” Dominique laughed shoving his hand away.
“No it’s not, that s*** is natural.” Omari said putting the truck in drive.
(((7 Hours Later)))
The two arrived in Los Angeles and looked around impressed with what they saw. Omari followed the directions his navigation gave to the USC campus. They pulled up in front of a building that the navigation led them to and out front were a few students. They looked older as if they’d been attending for at least a year or two. They held a certain presence about them that screamed confidence. Only a few things could give off that feeling without words, popularity, money, or athletes. In this case it was all three. Omari rushed around to the other side of his truck to help Dominique out.
“Omari Grandberry and Dominique DeLorme it’s a pleasure to finally have you here.” One of the guys greeted smiling, descending the steps.

I can't be sure but I think you guys are gonna like this add...
“So I’m good enough to kiss in public but now I ain’t worth affection here?” she teased smirking.
“My apologizes beautiful, I didn’t want to overload you with fondness.”
“Well I thought you were campaigning to be the one they call my man. Maybe I’m mistaken.”
“No” he said reaching over, taking her hand in his, and supplying it with a gentle kiss. “You’re what I want and I’m hoping and praying I’m what you want.”
“We’ll talk” she smirked.
“We shall”
Once they arrived at Chris’s departure area they both exited their seats. Chris came around the front and met Dominique as she closed her door.
“So” she said eyeing him.
“So” he repeated standing in front of her.
“You’ll call me when you get there?” she asked.
“Yes” he smiled stepping closer to her.
“Got everything you need for the flight?”
“Almost’ he said pressing his body against hers.
“Well what more do you need? Can I help in some sort of way?” she grinned.
“Yes you can. Could you possibly bless me with one more kiss?” he requested smiling.
“I would love to.” She said wrapping her hands around his neck and gently pulling him down towards her.
He happily accepted her kiss and they shared their newly admitted affection towards one another for a few minutes before Dominique pulled away.
“You’re gonna miss your flight.” She smiled.
“Don’t care” he smiled, continuing to hold her in his arms.
“Go see your family. I’ll still be here waiting for you.”
“But I want you now.” Chris smiled, managing to hold her tighter.
“Go catch your flight.” She smiled.
“Come with me.”
“You saw my dress, can’t let that sexy beast go to waste.”
“It won’t go to waste. When we get back, I’ll take you out on a date and you can wear it then.”
“Or I wear it for the dance, step my hater number up, have a nice meal with Shaffer and Zoe, hurry home so I can go to bed, dream of you, then haul ass to the airport so I can come get you.”
“You gonna pick me up in that dress?”
“Ew no”
“Why not? That thang is sexy as all hell and I wanna see you in it.”
“I’ll send pictures throughout the night. Now stop stalling and go catch your plane.”
“You really are trying to get rid of me.”
“No, the sooner you leave the sooner you get back.”
“Alright” he said kissing her. “I’ll call as soon as I get in my ride.” He said kissing her one last time before releasing her.
She smiled and waved as she got in the driver’s side and pulled off after putting her seatbelt on.
(7:30am East Coast Time)
“Hey baby!”
“Hey mama!” Chris said wrapping his arms around his mother, lifting her from the ground, and spinning her around.
“Boy stop” she giggled. “So silly” she said after he put her back down.
Chris went to the passenger side door and placed a kiss on his mother’s cheek just as she walked past him to get inside. Once she was in he hurried to the driver’s side.
“Ma I think I’m in love.” He said putting his truck in drive.
“Bulls***”
Chris immediately slammed on the brakes after being startled. He looked behind him with a shocked expression as his mother and his aunts laughed at him.
“I’m glad ya’ll think it’s funny I could’ve killed us.” He said driving away.
“Oh hush boy and get to telling us how some pretty girl has kept your attention for more than five minutes.” one of his aunts joked.
“Will ya’ll sit back there and enjoy the ride?” Chris asked digging his phone out of his pocket.
“What am I looking for?” Joyce asked taking the phone.
“Look for a text from Shaffer.”
“I remember back in the day when you’d flip if someone even looked like they were gonna touch your phone.” An aunt commented
“Things change”
“Is that who I think it is?!” Joyce asked excited.
“Who you think it is?” Chris asked all smiles.
“Dominique?” she smiled.
“It is!” he admitted proudly. “Ma it was the most amazing thing. I was nervous and had butterflies and even after she gave me permission I couldn’t bring myself to kiss her.” He rambled excitedly, lisp ever so present.
“Permission?!” Everyone shouted.
“Yeah, I asked if it’d be ok if I kissed her. She’s my friend, one of my best-friends and I didn’t want to ruin that. Matter of fact I gotta call her.” He said plugging his phone into his truck to use his speakers for speakerphone.
::ring::ring::ri…::
“What up dog?” a male answered.
They all became nervous but calmed down when they realized that Chris wasn’t bothered by this.
“Not much, what’s babygirl up to?”
“Dom and wifey have been killing all these fools on the beer pong table. You need to come back cause no one really knows why Dom was so damn sad earlier when she was trying to drop your truck off. But I do. She miss her boo.” Shaffer laughed making kissy noises into the phone.
“How’d you get her to stay?”
“We told her you have a room here and that it even smells like you. Once she realizes her man won’t be in it she’ll probably leave. No she won’t cause she don’t drink and drive. But her ass will be sad.”
“She ain’t my girl yet, but I guarantee it won’t take us as long as it did you and Zoe.”
“Drink up niggas!”
“Ya’ll win again?”
“Yep, who you talking to? Hello” Zoe said snatching the phone away.
“Hey Zoe”
“What up Breezy? Yo, I understand why you left but I don’t know how you did it.” She giggled. “Did you not see her dress?!”
“Of course I saw the dress.” Chris said with a sigh as he let his head hit the headrest. “It’s absolutely beautiful and fits her perfectly. She’s going to look amazing and I’m letting Shaffer take her!” he said hitting the steering wheel.
Before he could say anything else Zoe was laughing and telling him bye while handing off the phone to the owner.
“You make it in ok?”
“Yes” he replied through clenched teeth.
“What’s the matter?”
“Nothing” he lied.
“If you say so but if her drunk ass put you in this mood then you should be ashamed of yourself.”
“But she brought up how good you’re going to look at the dance and that I’m not taking you.”
“Be smart Chris, I’ma look better than her on her man’s arm. She gonna be showing off her pictures and everyone is gonna be asking who I am. Don’t even worry about that.”
“f*** you Dominique!” Zoe shouted.
“People gonna learn not to upset you in my presence. So forget all that, how was your flight?”
“I slept, dreamt of you saying yes to a few of my questions. Some obviously will have to wait a few years to be asked but one I’d like to ask you face to face soon.”
“In person, I like your style.”
“I ain’t gonna keep you up too much longer, just wanted to let you know I made it ok.”
“You’re not keeping me up.”
“You wouldn’t be up if you weren’t waiting on a call from me.”
“Can’t prove it”
“Get some sleep”
“On my way to your room right now.”
“Don’t forget to dream about me.”
She giggled, said bye, then they both hung up at the same time.
“She seems alright.” An aunt commented.
“She’s more than alright.” Chris corrected. “She’s perfect”
“I already know she looks good, but I wanna see a picture anyways.”
“Use your phone to Google Dominique DeLorme.”
(((A Minute Later)))
“Damn nephew!”
“I see she’s not a model but I still gotta ask. Is she a model?”
“No, she’s just my Dominique. My super smart, athletic, and beautiful best-friend who I hope someday soon will be my girl.”
(((Monday)))
“I have got to be the luckiest man in the entire WORLD tonight!” Shaffer said as he stood to his feet from Dominique’s couch as her and Zoe came from the room.
“I look ok?” the two asked in unison, sincerely bashful.
“Ok?! Ladies, ladies…, ladies….you look…..beyond amazing.” Shaffer confessed making them both blush. “The car is here, everyone is downstairs waiting on us. Shall we?” he asked turning his back to them while offering his elbows.
The two looked at one another, giggled, then walked towards Shaffer.
“It’s already nine, they need to hurry up.” Nicki complained.
“So” Omari said with a roll of his eyes.
“So the dance started an hour ago and ends at midnight. We have only so much time to get there.”
“We got plenty of time.” Trey said watching the door.
“Here they come now, so shut up.” Drake said as he and the other gentlemen stood from leaning on the limo.
The limo driver opened up the door to Dominique’s building and the three of them exited and took their time getting down the stairs.
“Whoa!” Drake exclaimed.
“Damn!” Trey said with wide eyes.
“Shaffer you sure you can handle all that?” Omari asked taking a step closer.
“This kind of challenge to a gentleman is the ultimate test that we live for. So yes, I got this. Ladies.” He said walking them up to the limo door and holding them by the hand as he assisted them inside. “It really is good being the gentleman of the group.” He smirked just before he got in.
During the limo ride they all drank, laughed, and occasionally eyed Dominique even though they all had a date. She looked amazing, but her gray eyes seemed a light shade grayer than usual. Though she kept a smile on her face Omari could tell she was sad about something just from the color of her eyes.
“You alright?” Omari asked leaning towards her.
“Yes” she smiled looking into his eyes. “How are you?”
“I’m cool” he smiled.
He wanted to speak with her more but by the time he figured out something to say they were arriving at hotel Andaz in West Hollywood. The driver hurried to the door and was sure to help the ladies out before their date claimed them.
“Wow, this is pretty fancy.” Dominique said in an overly-exaggerated country drawl causing the others to laugh.
“This is fancy? Shame.” Nicki said.
“Don’t let that sexy ass dress fool you, she’s still violent.” Omari warned walking ahead of Nicki.
“I see how this night is gonna wind up.”
“Me too” Omari replied back not worrying about his date’s attitude.
“Why nigga?” Trey asked after she walked off.
“Because I said I would a long time ago.”
They caught a lot of attention once they stepped inside the ballroom. Finding their seats was easy and finding their friends was twice as simple. After everyone greeted one another they went on about their business.
“I know you just got here but would you mind honoring me with your first dance?” The white boy starting pitcher from Spanish Harlem by the name of Eric asked as a Daddy Yankee song came on.
Dominique smiled as she looked over to Shaffer.
“Only if the lady would like to.”
“See ya’ll soon” she smiled taking his hand.
Peopled watched the two dance and occasionally grind against one another. He was an amazing dancer and she was twice as good. Because in Dominique’s list of all-time favorite past time activities was dancing coming in strong third behind soccer and school. After he was finished dancing with her Shaffer took up where he left off. It was a slow jam.
“You having a good time?”
“I actually am” she giggled. “I thought I’d be sitting here thinking about Chris the entire time.”
“You’re not?” Shaffer asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Nope, just half the time.” She smiled.
“He’s probably saying his last minute good-byes to his family, he might even be at the airport by now, knowing him he’s halfway here and will be calling just as we’re leaving for a ride.”
“I can only hope.” Dominique smiled.
“Between me and you, ya’ll are gonna be an amazing couple.” He said into her ear.
He pulled back in time to see her smiling and looking away, blushing at the thought.
“What you two over here talking about?” Zoe asked as her and Omari approached, slow dancing.
“Nothing” Shaffer smiled.
“Switch me” Omari suggested.
“Spin my baby to me.”
Omari stepped backed and spun Zoe towards Shaffer while Shaffer spun Dominique. The two were close enough to touch back and shoulders. They both giggled once they reached their intended man’s arms.
“f***ing show offs” Dominique commented.
“You know!” Zoe agreed.
They finished out that song and the DJ put on another song by the name of Fatal” by J Holiday“. Omari paused for a second and Dominique stopped when he did.
“What’s the matter?”
“Good song” he said as he continued dancing.
Dominique followed his lead as she listened to the words to the song. The chorus came and Dominique stutter stepped.
“Please don’t stop” Omari requested grabbing her tighter, making her keep his rhythm.
Dominique continued to dance.
“Thank you” he said pulling her in closer. “I know you don’t wanna hear this again but I really do miss you.”
“We’re working on our friendship Omari, no need in missing me.”
“Sometimes you really aren’t the smartest girl in the room.” He chuckled. “This! I miss us, I miss holding and kissing you.”
“Omari…don’t”
“Why not? What’s the problem with being honest?”
“Because…”
“Because what?”
She went to respond and became equally as shocked as everyone else paying attention to them when he stole a kiss.
“Omari don’t” she pleaded stepping away from him.
“Couldn’t help it.” Omari smiled pulling her back into his arms, gazing down into her eyes.
Dominique tried to hide her smile by looking away but Omari gently placed his finger under her chin and turned her face back up to him. Once again the old Omari had re-immersed. Another song began to play that was more up-tempo and Omari made space between them but kept a hold of her hands as they began grooving to the music. Eventually he brought her back to him with her back to his front. Everyone was stunned when they noticed how much of a creep Omari wasn’t being and how much fun the two were having dancing song after song after song.
“Ok O, I need a time out.” She smiled stepping away from him.
“Not you!” he taunted laughing.
“Just fifteen minutes and I’ll be back.”
“I’ma hold you to that.” He smiled as she walked away.
“Having fun?” Zoe asked following Dominique.
“Yeah” Dominique smiled.
(((10 Minutes Later)))
“This is a once in a lifetime offer Omari.”
“I can’t, I’ve finally gotten in really good with Dominique and I think I have a shot at rekindling something with her.”
“You know you want to and if you don’t tonight and you do happen to rekindle something you’ll do nothing but lust after me. Once again losing focus on your prize, but if you f*** up again there will be no third chance. Might as well get it out of your system.” She said sliding a key card into his pocket and her finger across his semi hard-on.
“f***” he mumbled to himself looking between Dominique and Mrs. Parker. “No more curiosity, no temptation later….she won’t even notice I’m gone.” Omari said peeking over at Dominique who was joking around with all of her friends, not paying him any attention. “Last time” he said walking towards the main part of the hotel.
(((15 Minutes Later)))
“So where’d Omari go?” Nicki asked with attitude walking up to the crew.
“You clearly see none of us are worried about his ware bouts, why you bothering us?” Zoe asked.
“Because she was the last one seen with him.” Nicki said with much attitude.
“Ok Nicki put yourself in my shoes. A man loves me but he’s too selfish to control his impulses. Same guy, just your date, but doesn’t love you where do you think he’s at?”
“He wouldn’t do that to me.” Nicki said matter-of-factly.
Everyone burst into laughter. Just as Nicki stormed off the music went damn near silent. The lights on the makeshift stage lit up brighter and the females went crazy.
“Anyone know where my date is at?”
The girls screamed their head off, hopped up and down, did anything to catch his attention. He looked around smiling before he looked towards Dominique.
“There she is, hey beautiful. Why don’t you come on up here.” he smiled.
Dominique was smiling extra hard.
“Go girl!” Zoe said giving her a small push.
People made a path for Dominique by moving to the side before she had to say excuse me to get past them. Chris helped her up the few steps and to a stool.
“I see you’re a little shocked to see me. I’m sorry I didn’t call but I wanted to surprise you.” He smiled.
“Mission accomplished” she giggled.
“Plus I couldn’t go on with life without seeing you in this dress tonight.” He said checking her out.
The men began to hoot, holler, and whistle after Chris’s comment.
“I concur gents.” He said into the microphone still checking her out. “But this isn’t why I’m up here, I’ll admire this beauty on my own time. Dominique would you mind if I sang you a song, excuse me, I mean your song? Because it was inspired by you, written for you, and is definitely dedicated to you.”
“I’d be honored” she smiled taking a seat.
Chris sat down in the stool directly in front of her and adjusted the microphone on the stand so that it was directly in the middle of them.
"The title is I Wanna Be, I hope you like it."
He took a deep breath then gave the DJ a nod. The music began to play and he sighed again before he began to talk.
“Look…I know we been friends for a while now, but…I just feel like I can confess to you…it’s gonna be hard but…well here it goes.” He said before he broke into song.
As he sang tears came to Dominique’s eyes and he wiped them away without missing a beat. She kissed his hand then held it as he serenaded her.
“Cross my heart hope to die, on everything that’s good, I’ma do you right, show you right, get this understood, I wanna be!”
The crowd began to cheer loudly once the song was over and Chris stood to his feet as he gently tugged on Dominique’s hands to signal that he wanted her on her feet too. As she slid off the stool he wiped more of her tears away.
“So um…Dominique…I know we were supposed to talk but we’re both sensible people so trying to explain feelings with words didn’t seem rational and then I figured words weren’t necessary because I think you feel the same way about me as I do about you. So…will you be my lady?”
She tried to speak but felt that if she spoke her voice would crack. So instead she opted to smile and nod. Chris had the biggest smile on his face as he embraced Dominique. He pulled back a little and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. The crowd continued to cheer but got louder when Dominique deepened the kiss by placing her hands on the back of Chris’s head and adding a little bit of tongue.
“Yo…YO!” the DJ shouted laughing. “Can I start the music back up?”
“I got my girl, do whatever the hell you want.” Chris said into the mic before he tossed it back up to him.
The music came back on and Chris went in for another kiss.
“How ya’ll think this night is gonna end?” Drake laughed.
“What you mean? When Omari find out what just happened?” Zoe asked.
“Yeah” Drake continued to laugh.
“Doesn’t matter because wherever he is apparently its more important than what him and Dominique had going on. I give credit where credit is due and he was the man for a hot minute, then he just dipped. His fault.” Zoe explained with absolutely no sympathy in her voice.
“Hey lovebirds” Shaffer greeted as Chris and Dominique approached everyone holding hands.
“So it’s finally official.” Trey commented.
“Indeed” Chris smiled looking down at Dominique.
(((Upstairs)))

RUN IT!
Chris and Dominique found humor in that interaction as they walked away towards the tables everyone was sitting at.
“Sorry guys, we ran out of chairs.” Drake said as the two approached.
“How inconvenient” Chris replied staring at a single chair.
“Well I suppose we’ll be sharing a seat since our brothers and sisters didn’t take it upon themselves to search for an extra chair.”
“I suppose” Chris said sitting down while gently guiding Dominique down on his left leg.
“Good luck eating.” Veronica giggled.
“He’s right handed and I’m left, disaster averted.” Dominique said with a shrug of her shoulders.
“Matter of fact I’m not even hungry, I wanna go play.” Dominique said looking towards the bowling area. “Omari are you hungry?”
“Not really”
“Wanna go play?” she asked all smiles.
“I didn’t think you were up for an ass kicking on such an important day. Lucky for you I don’t have my ball so it shouldn’t be too bad.” Omari smiled standing from his seat.
“Nigga please! I ain’t got my ball either so it’s just gonna have to be a battle.” She said standing to her feet and walking towards the bowling concession.
Omari followed and once they were out of ear shot everyone turned towards Chris.
“What?”
“Don’t “what” us! What’s good with you and Dom?” Veronica asked.
“The same as always.” Chris replied.
“Where did you two disappear to?” Drake asked.
“Nowhere”
“Then why did we make it to Jillian’s together and you two were the only ones missing?”
Chris shrugged his shoulders.
“Who cares? We’re here now.” He said looking through the menu.
“For real where were you two at?” Drake asked.
“For real it doesn’t matter, order your food.”
“I’m really curious now.” Zoe smiled rubbing her hands together.
“Don’t waste your time.” Chris said still eyeing the menu.
“Come on now” Stephen persisted.
“Drop it” Chris said sternly.
After an awkward silence, drink and food orders, the conversation picked right back up.
“Yeah Omari! f*** yo score!” Dominique celebrated after she bowled another strike.
Everyone looked over at Omari smiling and Dominique dancing.
“You better watch out before he steal yo girl.” Drake joked.
Chris looked over at them then turned his attention towards Drake smiling.
“You ain’t slick”
“What?” Drake asked trying to seem innocent.
“You trying to get me to say something that’ll start a whole new string of questions. It ain’t happening my dude.” Chris chuckled along with the rest of the table.
Everyone socialized and made jokes up until the food began coming.
“I think you have some fans.” Dominique said as Omari grabbed his ball.
Omari looked behind him then turned his attention back to wiping the grease from the lane off the ball.
“Naw babygirl, they ain’t here for me.”
“Highly doubtful because they surely ain’t here for me.”
“Positive?” he smirked.
“f*** you Mari” she laughed.
“I’m just saying, you are a very beautiful woman and it wouldn’t be the first time a chick picked you instead of me.”
“Looks have nothing to do with it.” She said with a roll of her eyes.
“Says you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “I ain’t gay but if I was to start she’d be it!” You a hot little commodity.” He smirked tossing the towel to the side.
“Whatever man, can you please go get rid of them? The staring and giggling is annoying me.”
“Sure, right after I bowl this strike.” Omari said as he set himself on the lane.
He concentrated for a second then bowled knocking down eight pins.
“s***!”
“Ah ha!” Dominique laughed and pointed. “You suck” she said standing to her feet.
“Where you going?”
“To go pick off people’s plates while you work.”
“And when you say people you mean Chris.”
“And when I say work I mean hoe, so get to work.”
“So cold, but on the real you know at least one of them chicks wants you right?” Omari chuckled.
“Get rid of them O.” she smirked walking away.
“Who’s winning?” Shaffer asked.
“Him” she said as she took a seat on Chris’s left leg.
“I see he’s up to his old tricks again.” Veronica said with an eye roll.
“Yes and no, he wasn’t paying them any mind but they were getting on my nerves. He’s showing them some love so they’ll go away.” Dominique explained searching Chris’s plate for the perfect nacho. “Gotcha b****” she said grabbing a fully loaded chip.
“Excuse me Dominique” Omari said after approaching with the females unnoticed.
“Yes?” she asked after taking two bites.
“While you were over here feeding your face I decided to make some new friends. Two of my new buddies happened to want to meet you.” Omari smiled.
“Hey” Dominique said with a wave.
“Hi” They replied in unison, with the exact same tone.
These two women happened to be the prettiest of their entire crew and they had their focus only on Dominique.
“Can we talk in private?” One of them asked.
“About what?” Dominique asked somewhat already knowing the answer.
“Nothing in particular, just talk.” The other replied smiling.
Everyone could tell they wanted Dominique in more than a friendly manner. They were all equally entertained but some of the men were in shock that she had that kind of attention from such beautiful women.
“Alright, no harm in talking.” She said standing to her feet though she didn’t want to.
“Ay babe” Chris said standing to his feet. “Hurry back” he said dipping down slightly and kissing her on the lips.
Dominique blushed as she replied, “Two seconds”
Everyone acted as if it were a normal thing. But in all honesty they couldn’t tell if what just happened was real or not.
“That’s your boyfriend?” One of the females asked, sounding slightly disappointed.
“Yep, that’s my baby. So what’d you guys wanna talk about?”
“Nothing, we’re sorry.” One said honestly.
“Sorry about what?” Dominique asked seeming sincere.
“We didn’t mean to take up your time.” The other said placing her hand on Dominique’s stomach to push her back towards Chris.
“My God” she mumbled, then quickly pulled her hand back. “Sorry” she apologized. “We’ll be over here ya’ll.” She said grabbing the other girl.
Chris shrugged his shoulders, took his seat while pulling Dominique back down on his leg, wrapping his left arm around her, then commenced to eating. Omari calmly led the ladies away from the table, smiling and flirting. But on the inside he was ready to tear that entire establishment apart.
“There was a pretty good chance that didn’t go right.” Chris commented.
“Definitely a better than decent chance it went very poorly.” Dominique agreed.
“It kinda did though, cause everyone is waiting on an explanation.” Chris said before he ate a nacho, looking up at Dominique.
“Common sense isn’t a common virtue.” Dominique said grabbing one of his nachos.
“Ok you two are done talking like we ain’t here.” Zoe voiced.
“I wonder why Omari didn’t punch me.” Chris said aloud.
“I’m wondering the same thing.” Trey laughed.
“So Dominique, when were you gonna tell us that you pulled bad b****es?” Drake asked.
“Around the same time I started dating a woman.” She simply replied.
“Got something against lesbians?”
“No, just not interested in that way of life.”
“Not even when you and Chris start dating and it’s something he really really wants?” Trey grinned.
“Not even for Jesus. We’re only required to hang out once a month right?” Dominique asked looking over at Chantal.
“Yeah” she giggled.
“Thank God” Dominique said standing and walking away towards Omari. “You gonna be ready to play soon?”
“Probably not” he said not looking at her.
“Should I have someone else play for you?”
“I don’t care, I’m busy.”
“Wow…ok…my apologies.” She said turning to walk away.
“Dominique wait, I’m sorry.” He said tugging at the back of her shirt.
She slapped his hand away and continued walking. He followed behind her and continued grabbing at her, but she kept slapping his hand away. He moved around her quickly and kept getting in her way.
“f***! Go be busy!” she said irritated.
“Dom stop it, I’m sorry.” He pleaded holding her in place by her arms.
“Would you stop touching me!” she said jerking out of his grip.
“What will it take for you to forgive me?”
“You’re forgiven, now will you go away?”
“No cause I want to bowl.”
“Then go bowl” she said with a hand gesture towards the lanes.
“Come on Dom” he whined.
“Fine lead the way.”
He started walking towards the lanes but quickly stopped when he saw Dominique begin walking in the opposite direction.
“Stop being so damn stubborn, I said I was sorry.” He said as he scooped her up in his arms and carried her back over to the lanes.
Once he reached their lane he dropped her on the hard seat then went up to the ball return to grab his ball. He only hit one of the two pins. Dominique stood to bowl and on her way to the ball return she shoulder bumped Omari.
“Real mature” he said sitting down.
“f*** you” she said as she set herself on the lane.
Dominique launched the ball down the lane and once the ball struck the pins everyone there heard it.
“I wonder what he said to piss her off like that.” Riley voiced
“Feel better?” Omari asked going over to the ball return.
Dominique grilled him the entire time. He grabbed his ball, wiped some of the grease off, tossed the towel, then set himself.
“You can mean mug all you want, won’t stop me from bowling this strike.” He said before he bowled.
Just as he released the ball Dominique was right there behind him giving him a little nudge. The ball went into the gutter and he went past the line a little, slipped, and fell. Everyone at the table burst into laughter. Omari moaned with a slight smile on his face. Dominique smirked and walked away laughing.
“I deserved that.” Omari said slowly getting up.
After everyone was done eating they went over to the lanes and watched for a little while. A few of them joined in. They were all genuinely enjoying themselves.
“Awe s***, here we go with the nonsense.” Riley said with a roll of her eyes.
Everyone looked around until they spotted what she saw. It was the Alphas and AKAs coming right towards them.
“Well look at this, she’s a Delta now.” Nicki said approaching with her sisters.
“Ugh, the snake arrives, walking as if human.” Dominique commented.
Everyone erupted into laughter.
“Is that all you got, a smart ass mouth? No wonder you couldn’t keep Omari around you virgin.”
“At least my pussy doesn’t have the consistency of hamburger meat cut up by a screw driver.”
Once again everyone laughed but twice as hard.
“Omari doesn’t seem to think so.”
“Why you keep bringing him up?”
“Because you know it kills you that Omari chose me instead of you.”
“Do you hear yourself right now? Do you even know Omari at all? If you asked him what he likes most in a female do you know what he’d say? Not personality, not sense of humor, he’d say his d***. You let him f*** of course he’s gonna pick you.”
Omari fell out of his chair laughing and the others were almost in tears.
“I’m still the reason ya’ll ain’t together.”
“I didn’t know it until now but you suffer from a disease by the name of Selective Memory. You remember that ass kicking I adorned you with right? Wasn’t a fluke, it can happen again.”
“I don’t think so.” One of Nicki’s sisters said stepping forward.
“You might wanna tell that basic b**** to mind hers and shut the f*** up.”
“Basic?! Who the hell you think you’re talking to?” she asked walking towards Dominique but was quickly stopped by Nicki.
“Oh I see you do remember that encounter.” Dominique laughed.
“You have no idea who you’re f***ing with!” she shouted as more of her sisters held her back.
“You need to calm down cause your face looks like it’s been injected with testosterone.”
The girl growled at Dominique as more of her sisters held her back because she was fighting hard.
“Seriously you should calm down because I can guarantee coming over here will be as productive as a stripper with no tits.”
Though they didn’t want to most of the Alphas and some of the AKAs let out little snickers. The girl finally stopped struggling and straightened out her clothes.
“You know what?”
“I bet I do because I’m brilliant, I make smart people look like retards.” Dominique replied to the rhetorical question.
“This isn’t over, you and I will have our time. I will prove to everyone that you’re nothing more than a coward ass little girl that hides behind her words.”
“Your ridiculous little opinion has been duly noted. Now you smuts run along.” Dominique said turning her back on them.
“Disrespectful ass b****” one of the AKAs commented.
“Why wait until I turn around to speak your mind?” Dominique asked picking up her ball and wiping it down with the towel. “I ain’t upset with your antics but I suggest you leave before I put my Timbs back on and stomp every last one of you out until the tree falls off my boot.” Dominique said tossing her towel to the side and setting herself on the lane, then bowling a strike. “Damn I’m good.” She boasted. “Ya’ll still here? Was I not clear when I told you to leave? I get it, you’re trying to prove a point, all of you collectively aren’t scared of me. Cool, fine, whatever, congrats. But on the real Nicki round up your crew of Special Olympic bronze medalist and beat it. If you don’t wanna take the easy way then send your most fearless warrior over here to prove that I’m all talk.”
“This isn’t the place for this kind of altercation. We’ll see you around because from here on we’ll be watching you.”
“Then I’ll be getting watched.” Dominique taunted with an eye roll. “Bye fellas” she flirted, with an added wink.
Some verbally greeted her, some waved, but they all smiled as they walked away.
“Where in the f*** do you come up with that s***?!” Drake asked still laughing.
“With what?” Dominique asked confused.
“Every last one of your comments!” Trey explained also laughing.
“Oh…s***…I don’t know, I just say whatever pops in my head that makes the most sense at the time.”
“You hella funny ma.” Chris laughed, wiping tears away.
“It’s not intentional, I try to get my point across as best as possible”
“What does Omari like most in a woman?” Drake chuckled looking over at Trey.
“Personality?” Trey replied.
“Nope”
“Sense of humor?”
“Nope”
“Oh that’s right.” Trey chuckled. “His d***” him and Drake finished in unison.
Everyone began laughing all over again. Once Dominique heard it she too laughed.
“Damn…if someone were to talk to me like I talk to people I swear to God I would fight them.” Dominique voiced.
“You don’t think they don’t want to?!” Chris asked.
“They too scared though” Shaffer laughed.
“Basic b****” Zoe laughed.
“Special Olympics bronze medalist.” Chantal laughed even harder.
Dominique laughed along with everyone else.
“You really have no idea what be coming out your mouth?” Veronica asked
Dominique shook her head no.
“I just know it makes perfectly good sense at the moment.”
“Who would think to say someone’s face looks like it was injected with testosterone?” Chris laughed.
“Like I said, it made sense at the time. Her face was extremely mannish at that particular moment."
They went back to having fun and when it turned nine o’clock Dominique and Chris were already walking out the door. A few of their brothers and sisters followed. As they turned a corner they saw the Alphas and AKAs lurking and watching.
“Is Omari finally ready?” Nicki shouted catching Dominique’s attention.
All in one motion Chris moved behind Dominique, wrapped his strong hands firmly around her waist, and pulled her close while looking down in her face.
“Don’t know, you gonna have to ask him.” Dominique replied smiling up in Chris’s face.
“He’s still at Jillian’s.” Chris informed her.
Just as they made it past the group Chris dipped down and kissed Dominique again. They were all too shocked with the action to remember to start trouble.
“Keep spoiling me.” Dominique giggled.
Once the two broke away from everyone they hurried to Chris’s truck. He opened her door then closed it as soon as she was in comfortably. He got in, placed his seat belt around him, started the truck and pulled off. They rode in complete silence up until they got on the freeway.
