Simply Beautiful

I held a firm grip on the can of gold paint and began to move my wrist in swift upward motions repeatedly until one of the areas of my new piece was completed to my satisfaction. It had been in my head for days. Forming itself, putting its own pieces together. It took me about two hours to get it out on paper. It was a beautiful work of art. One of my favorites.

Al Green was blasting through my earphones. I always listened to music while I created something, it kept me from getting easily distracted, I flowed with the rhythm of the music and that was sure to get me through the entire process. I grinned as I finished up the last bit of it. I released a breath and stood back, removing the scarf that I used to avoid inhaling the fumes, from around my face and allowed the chilly fall day's fresh air to finally hit my face after two hours.

The longer I stared at it the more I fell in love with it. It felt like I had created it for a reason that remained unknown. Nonetheless its perfect, and I can feel myself becoming inspired again. I took a look to my left at some other artist's painting that had caught my eye when I got here. It was breathtaking..alluring. It was something surprisingly similar to what I had came here to paint today. I had to stop and marvel at it, like I did every other day with their art. Whoever 'Breezy' is, he is surely talented. I would have to keep my eye out for him or her. For as long as I've been coming here I have never seen who the spot beside mine belonged to. All I knew was that everyday I was here, another one of their stunning murals were too.

I decided to do something daring today and join my art with his. Though I'm most likely gonna get told off for crossing some lines doing so, who would I be not to take a risk? I'm an artist, its what I do on a daily basis.

"Simply beautiful.." I said to nothing in particular.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and snapped a quick picture of it. I then closed the camera application in my iPhone and glanced at the time. It read, 9:45AM. I had a solid 45 minutes to get to work. I bent over and hastily gathered all of the paint cans, tossing them into my duffel bag, then grabbed my backpack that contained my work clothes and cleared out from the alley.

"Be back later" i said to the walls as i strolled by them. All of a sudden having a strange gut feeling that today would be one to remember.

I watched as everyone piled back into the same car they arrived in. My Nona stood calmly in front of me, watching me closely. I was fighting back tears, sad to leave her again.

"Don't be sad, child. You should be celebrating such a good trip." She smiled running a hand down my cheek. I smirked sadly.

"I can't help it Nona, it's not everyday I get to see you." I said.

"I know, and in my old age it gets harder to travel. Just don't be a me every once in a while." She said to me. I nodded and wiped the tear away from my eye.

"Come here." She said holding open arms for me. I fell into her embrace, inhaling her lavender scent.

"Your father would be so proud of you. I know that." Said Nona. I smiled as we pulled away from one another.

"I know..I'm gonna miss you. Take care of yourself please?" I said holding her hand tight.

"I'm not going anywhere right now, don't you worry. Now go, before you miss your flight. Don't count on me letting you go a second time now." She chuckled and kissed my cheek. I reached in and kissed her forehead softly and walked down the driveway to the car.

"Congratulations, baby." She spoke as I pulled open the car door. I looked back at her and all of her wisdom.

My heart jumped as my eyes fell on the tall figured man behind her. I stared into the eyes of my <a href="">father</a> and his stared right back at mine. Holding all of the love he had for me. A tear escaped my eye and rushed down my cheek. I felt it make it's way down to my chin before it broke off onto it's own and made its way to the cement beneath me. As soon as it left my face, the ghostly image of my father had disappeared into thin air.

My Nona watched me with the same smile. I wiped my cheek and waved.

"I love you." I smiled to both her and the empty spot behind her, teary eyed before getting into the car.

Chris beeped as he drove off slowly down the road behind my mother and everyone else.

My fathers image burned bright in my mind. I let the tears run as we drove further and further away from his hometown.

"So, what would you have done, had I said no." I asked with a teasing smile as we lay spread naked on the hotel bed, one leg draped over the other under the thin white sheet. A low chuckle rumbled from Chris' chest.

"I would have been like b**** IS YOU CRAZY?!" I broke out into a fit of giggles, tracing my fingers along his chest full of tattoos.

"Nah..I don't know what I would've done..would've been hella embarrassed though." Said Chris as he absently rubbed the hairs on my upper arm. I chuckled burying my face in his chest. We fell silent.

"So, when you want to get married?" Asked Chris. I sighed in bliss.

"Uhhh how about when Alayah learns to walk. I want her to be the flower girl with Analee." I smiled as I envisioned my entire ceremony.

"Hmm, aight. We lookin' at about a year?" He thought out loud. I nodded.

"In about a year." I smiled as silence fell over us again.

"I never thought I'd say this, but I don't think I ever wanna leave Toronto." I laughed. Chris joined me and rubbed my back.

"Told you we'd leave with better memories. Speaking of leaving, we gotta get dressed and go grab Alayah from ya mama. Flight is in three hours and we still gotta stop by Nona's house." Said Chris as he left the bed, I craved for his warmth again and pouted.

"Noooo, come back here. I want to cuddle." I whined. Chris pulled his boxers on and smiled in my direction.

"Girl, get up. We got a lifetime to cuddle. You my fiancée now." He said making kissy noises. I blushed as his muscles flexed as he stretched his arms.

"Guess you're right." I smiled falling back into the pillows.

"I love you." I smiled at my fiancée.

"I love you too, Mags." Grinned Chris as he disappeared into the bathroom.

"Get the f*** up!" He yelled. I laughed hard and covered my face with the sheet.

Never wanting to leave this moment.

"So what's the real reason you're here? I know something's up!" I smiled from ear to ear at Joyce. She held Alayah with care and caution.

"Oh child, don't try and interrogate me. I don't break!" Laughed Joyce tapping my cheek with her palm lightly. I chuckled giving up.

Something was fishy.

"Fine don't tell me." I said.

"You'll find out soon enough baby." She smiled. I shook my head and watched as the men had reappeared on the field. Derek held the basketball in his hand and Chris walked with a mighty grin right next to him. He threw his sweater back on and straightened up as he came closer, I smiled.

"Mags!" He called me for no reason. I stuck my tongue out.

"Chris, what is going on?!" I asked him crossing my arms over my chest. He smirked and licked his bottom lip.

"Noooothing!" He dragged, lying through his teeth.

"Liar. Everybody's here!" I said. Chris shrugged faking innocence. The music suddenly rose to high volume causing me to look over at my uncle who was deejaying the event. I smiled as Chris' cover of "Try A Little Tenderness" came on. I looked back to him.

"Dance with me." He smirked showcasing his dimple. Family around us paired up and took to the center of the field to dance with each other. I giggled and shook my head.

"You're sweaty!" I whined pushing him back when he tried to inch closer.

"Girl, quit playin' and dance with ya man." He smiled. I gave in with a chuckle and wrapped my arms around his neck as we moved away from his mother who swayed with Alayah.

<em>"You know she's waiting, just anticipating. For the things she'll never possess.."</em>

I smiled as Chris and I swayed to the music, I was in bliss from head to toe, just being there in that moment with him. I eyed Chris lovingly. He looked like he was stuck in his head, I reached my hand up to rub his temple.

"You look like you're thinking too hard." I said earning a chuckle.

"I uh...had a dream a couple weeks ago.." He started. I watched him carefully.

"Okay.." I answered.

"It was me and Kelz, we was just chillin at the alley. Taggin' and s*** like we used to back in VA. And it was just like old times, just me and him kickin' it." He explained with a far away look on his face, though he was looking me right in the eye.

<em>"It's not, ha ooh, just sentimental no. She has, she has, she has.."</em>

"And he was crackin' some joke about some broad we met back in highschool when a girl walked by. Right behind us, I turned around and I saw her watching the mural we had just got done painting..she had this..this look on her face like she was so knowledgable, I don't know. It was like she knew everything..she was beautiful. And in the dream, I didn't know her." He told me. I grew somewhat envious of the woman he spoke so highly about in his dream.

"I went to ask her what was up but, I couldn't talk, it was like I choked on my breath. Like she took it away...Kelly looked at her for a minute with this smile like he knew something, and then he looked over to me with the same smile. I didn't get it. And then she looked over to me and she took her hand and rubbed my temple with the back of her hand. And I swear Mags, I felt so calm. So peaceful with everything, so in love with someone I hardly knew." He said getting lost in his words. I grew confused as he babbled on. He smiled.

"Chris I'm confused--"

"The girl in the dream was you Mags..and Kelly was the only one who could talk in the dream...he looked at me and he said "What are you waiting for?" And then I woke up." He said as he finished the dream.

"I think it was really him and not just some dream you know? I think he was really asking m what I was waiting for. And when I woke up I didn't have an answer..I didn't know what I was waiting for." He said. I chuckled still not understanding.

"So, after that dream, I called up your mama and had her call up your entire family, and then I called up my mama..aaand I told them all to fly out to Toronto where we would all get together and pretend to throw a reunion..." He said releasing his hands from mine and fishing into his pocket as he lowered himself onto one knee.

<em>"But it'a all! It's all so simple now. All you gotta do, is try a little tenderness!.."</em>

My breath hitched in my throat and my eyes averted to the many eyes that were now glued on us. Every face had a smile and twinkling eyes to match.

"Chris..." I breathed raising my hands to cover my face.

"So that I could get down on one knee like I promised you I would..." He smiled nervously looking up into my tearful eyes.

"And I could take your hand like this.." He said grabbing my hand softly as he pulled out a Tiffany blue box.

The same box he carried around everyday.

I let the tears fall, and soon after so did he. He wiped one cheek dry and sniffed.

"And I could tell you, Tyson, from the moment I first saw you in that alleyway, sitting there listening to your music, high as a kite." He laughed along with everyone else.

"Sitting in front of my painting, you were all I wanted to know. I met you as Sketch..I liked you as Tyson...and then I fell in love with you Mags..I fell in love with every part of you. Through and are my heart, girl. The mother of my baby. And I need you with me forever. I want this, us..forever. If I know anything in this life it's that." He cried, sniffing. I covered my mouth with my free hand silently crying into it.

"So, please do me the honor..of being my wife?" He popped the question. A round of "awes" broke out around us. I sobbed happily and nodded.

"Yes! Yes!" I cried and laughed when Chris swept me up into his arms in a tight embrace. I cried into his neck as he placed tiny kisses on mine.

"I love you, girl." He whispered as the crowd cheered.

<em>"Is there a witness, in the building tonight!.."</em>

"More than you will ever know." He said as he pulled away from my embrace to slip the <a href="">ring</a> onto the forth finger on my left hand and placed a long passionate kiss on my lips.

<em>"Hey! Hey! Hey, hey just try. Just tryyy! Just tryyy!.."</em>

My heart swelled with happiness, thinking Toronto wasn't such a horrible place after all.

<em>"Just try a little.."</em>

I'll say it!!! My nigga Chris is about to propose!!!

"Aunt Tyson" I got that "trying to,hold back tears" lump in my throat reading that....

This add was refreshing!

"Here give me your plate. I'm done." I said to him taking his plate from him. He wiped his mouth with a napkin and tossed it in the black garbage bag near the table.

"Aight, imma go and run some ball with the fellas. You gon' be good right?" He asked eager to go.

"I'm good." I smiled and pecked his lips quickly before he took off. As I tossed the plates away, two hands had wrapped themselves around my face, covering my eyes. I hated this game.

"Guess whooo!" Squealed a familiar voice. I tore the hands off of my eyes as my mouth fell agape and spun around to find Mackenzie, Paige, Justin, Jeremiah, Daya, Analee, and Mrs. Joyce there.

I screamed in surprise, wondering what they were all doing here.

"Oh my God!!" I yelled grabbing each and every one of them into a strong embrace. I was in shock as they smiled at me.

"What are you guys doing here?!" I laughed looking around for Chris or my mother.

"We flew out with your Aunt Cameron! We didn't wanna miss the reunion." Spoke Mackenzie. I smiled in confusion.

"Yeah but you guys didn't really have to be here it's just a reunion!" I said genuinely confused as to why all of them had shown up. I searched the small ball court and field for Chris, but came up short when I couldn't find either him or my other family members there.

"Where the heck did they go.." I asked myself.

"Who?" Asked Mackenzie.

"Chris, Derek and my uncles. They're supposed to be playing ball. I wanna tell him that y'all are here." I said scanning the field.

"Oh well. He'll find you later. Have you seen Mike yet?!" I asked.

"Oh yeah, he was in on it. He knew the whole time. He's playing some game with Tray and Brooke and a few of your cousins. We saw everyone already. We came here early to help set up." Said Mackenzie.

"I don't know about y'all but I'm gonna grab some food." Said Jesse. I rolled my eyes and smiled as they all rounded me to get food.

Analee came up to me when Joyce put herself in line for food.

"Goodness, how old are you now? Forty?" I joked.

"I'm nine silly." She smirked.

"...How have you been?" She asked with her soul searching eyes. She was growing up so fast.

"I've been a lot better thank you. And you?" I asked looking down at her, tucking a loose curl of hair behind her ear, like I always had with her.

"I'm good. Happy to be out of VA for once. Can't I just move in with you and Uncle Chris and Alayah and Indie?" Asked Analee. I smiled and rubbed her head.

"Not yet, but I promise that if its cool with Mama Joyce, I'll take you when the timing is better." I smiled touching her chin. She sighed and smiled at me.

"Sounds cool." She approved. She and I lost each other in our gaze for a moment. I watched her closely.

"You look a lot you're not sad anymore." She smiled. I grinned full fledged.

"..I missed you." I whispered.

"I missed you too, Aunt Tyson." She smiled. My heart swelled at her words. She had never once called my Aunty. I took that at a sign of her thinking of me as family now. I bent over to capture her in a tight hug.

"This is the best trip ever.." I whispered into her ear before kissing her temple.

I walked through the grass as long blades of it slashed softly against the skin around my ankles. I was glad I decided to wear what I did, my outfit suited the weather perfect. Chris travelled quietly behind me, with a calm look on his face, pushing Alayah in her stroller.

We neared the family with every step and soon their attention was caught. With big grins they made their way over to me. Some members I couldn't place at first glance, but once they had jump started my memory I was all smiles, happy to see them. I smiled in glee, hugging and kissing the cheeks of everyone as we said our hellos. Everyone gawked over a sleeping Alayah, thinking she was the bell of the ball. I couldn't disagree.

I scanned the field for my mother and quickly found her, my Nona and Aunt Cameron by the food, dishing out some of the kids. I excused Chris and I from the crowd and rushed over to them.

"Hey babies!" Yelled my mom in happiness, she seemed to be doing way better then when I last saw her. I kissed her cheek quickly and went to jump into a hug with Aunt Cameron. She had arrived late last night and I was unable to go and see her because I was looking after Alayah.

"Ty-Marie! Hi baby!" She squealed hugging me tight. I grinned and pulled away, looking her over.

"Hi Aunty! How was your flight?" I asked standing by her side. I watched Chris hug and kiss my mother and grandmother like they were his own. Alayah rested in her stroller.

"It was good, it was good. Glad to be here finally! I've been dying for a few days off. I put your food right there, you and Chris go and eat. I'll watch Alayah." She told me ushering me forward. I smiled thankfully and passed Chris his plate. He took it happily and grabbed us both a fork.

I wasted no time digging into my meal.

"Hi Nona!" I grinned waving my fork in the air. She blew a kiss my way as she continued to fix the kids a plate.

"Ey! Marie! You gon' come over here and let me whoop ya butt in this race or what?!" Yelled Jones from across the way. I rolled my eyes playfully.

"Let me eat first! I'll school you after." I spoke covering my mouth with my hands.

"Punk!" He retorted. I laughed out loud.

"Ey Breezy!" I turned to the voice belonging to Derek. I smiled as he walked up to us with a basketball in his hand. Chris rested his fork down, cleared his throat and dapped him.

"What's good nigga?" He asked Derek who palmed the ball.

"I'm sayin', Uncle Derek, Uncle Leroy and Dennis trynna verse the youngin's. We trynna get a game goin' right now. You down?" He asked. Chris ran his tongue across his bottom lip.

"Aight imma be there just now. Just let me eat this real quick." He said as he dapped Derek one more time.

Chris began rushing the food into his mouth quickly. I chuckled and shook my head.

I felt eyes on me and moved them in the direction of where I figured the source would be, there stood a bunch of girls I didn't know. They watched Chris with hearts in their eyes. I wanted to laugh, but kept it in as a few of them turned my way to glare at me. I delivered a polite smile nonetheless and resumed my eating.

"You got fans.." I spoke lowly with a smirk. A low chuckle rumbled in Chris' chest.

"Yeah?" He asked sticking his fried rice in his mouth. I nodded.

"Well tell em I'm retired." He smirked.

"Mhm." I returned. Chris looked up at them.

"Ouhhh you got haters baby. They grillin' you hard.....trippin'." He shook his head with an amused smile.

lol that arguement they had in the hotel room seriously reminds me of me and my bot friend lol! guys really do take long to get dressed..but i hope tyson just chills and enjoys the reunion.. and whatever this feeling is I hope it passes..RUN IT

Awwwwww man. Here she go with these gut feelings. Last time Rihanna popped up and Daniel. I can't with Tyson and these feelings right now. Got me stressed! *insert stressed emoji here*

Run It!!

Aww, RUN IT!

<a href="">Tyson</a>

<a href="">Chris</a>

"Don't look at me." I spat at Chris forcing anger to show upon my face. He cut his eyes at me and chewed his bottom lip trying to hold his tongue. The sight was truly amusing.

I wasn't mad at him in the slightest, I just wanted to give him a hard time, though I was sure he already knew that. He drove down the street around the corner from the park where the reuinion was being held. Neither of us had said a polite word to one another since we left the hotel.

"Girl..better catch that attitude." He whispered loud enough for me to hear. I rolled my eyes playfully.

"Why you gotta be so grumpy in the mornings?" He asked lightly.

"I don't know! I'm just programmed that way." I admit with a shameful smile.

"You can't be throwin' shade my way like that though. I ain't do s*** to you." He told me, making me feel guilty.

"Say you sorry." He smirked holding his chin up. I scoffed and shoved him gently.

"Mags! I'm driving!" He laughed holding the wheel in place.

"I don't like when you give me attitude." I pouted.

"Well someone gotta put you in your place sometimes. If not me then who?" He returned.

"My mom?" I answered. He smacked his lips.

"Well I mean you look good. I guess it wasn't such a bad idea to dress nice today." I said. He grinned triumphantly.

"Told ya ass. Kiss my fist." He said holding his fist in front of my face. I pushed it back with a look of disgust.

"Uhhhh how about your cheek?" I said and went in for the kiss. He turned his head in time to catch my lips with his. I smiled into it and quickly pulled away so that he could focus on the road.

"You gon' be okay today?" He asked me. I sighed and relaxed back into my seat glad the fight was over.

"I guess so. I mean I should enjoy myself, for my fathers sake. He wouldn't like to see me ducking family the way I have. So, I'm gonna have a good time." I answered with a small smile.

"Hows ya mama doing?" He asked as he turned into the parking lot. I could see the field of green, and the people spread all over it. Streamers of different colors hung from trees along with balloons and a banner that read "Kindle Cookout" I smiled.

"Man they really goin' all out." Said Chris as he looked out of the window.

"Yeah.." I smirked watching a line of family members race with potato sacks covering their legs. There were other activities at every corner of the field. I was secretly excited to join in.

I could feel something in my gut, but I wasn't sure what it was. I decided to ignore the feeling for the time being. I just wanted to enjoy myself for a while and have a good day.

It wasn't often that I had one.
