Inside My Love.

I pulled up in front of the large building, adorned with dark LED lights. The parking lot was being swept by a young boy in Jordan's. He couldn't have been much older than me. I tightened the strap on my purse and walked towards the door apprehensively. It had come down to this. I didn't have another option. I knocked softly on the door at first... only for it not to be answered. The boy that was sweeping approached and hit the door loudly with his hand flat. I jumped, startled and looked at him. He tossed me a smirk and went back to sweeping. The door opened and he stood there, looking me up and down.

"...Who referred you?" He asked.

I put my hair behind my ear and parted my lips to say something but nothing came out. I shrugged. He studied me once more and looked me dead in the eye.

"Name?" He asked.

"Veronica... I go by Ronnie." I said softly.

He opened the door wider for me to come in, so I did. I hadn't ever been to one of these places, I'd only heard about them... saw them in movies. I looked around wondrously, and heard the giggles of females arriving and leaving, all of them carrying gym bags. I studied their curves and looked down at myself.

"What you here for..." He asked, dismissively. His eyes didn't dance in my direction, as he strolled casually beside me, checking out everything on the floor - making sure nothing was out of place.

He stopped suddenly and I did too.

"...I need a job," I said, searching his face.

He snickered. "So go to the mall and fill out applications, sweetheart. This isn't something for your resume,"

"I understand that," I said, shaking my head. "I wouldn't be here if I didn't need to be. I need a job," I said, pleading with my eyes.

He scratched his face, as he ruminated. He pointed to the bar. "You start there," He said, before he began to walk.

"I was hoping to dance!" I called after him.

He shook his head, "We'll see,"

I exhaled, and dropped my bag on the floor before the DJ put on some music. I looked around and sat down on one of the bar stools. Well... at least I had a job.

I woke up to flowers. A smile was on my face as I took them from the gentleman on my front porch, who returned to his black Chevy Malibu. I stared at it for a moment, trying to remember why it looked familiar before I went back inside and shut the door. I smiled, hoping they were from Clyde. I pulled the note from the middle and opened it up to see two concert tickets and backstage passes. There was a sticky note attached.

"Please come. Bring a friend. I need you."

My heart sunk and I ripped the tickets up and went into the kitchen, throwing them in the trash. I looked back outside to see the Malibu still on the street. I pulled out my phone and called Clyde.

"Hey wanna grab lunch? Cayden's hungry." I said.

When Clyde came to pick me up, I got in hurriedly and put Cayden in the backseat. Clyde noticed the change in my demeanor.

"Everything okay?" He asked, nonchalantly.

We'd gotten good at pretending that nothing was wrong, for the girls. It's what parents had to do.

"I think so," I said, nodding.

At lunch, I tried to keep my mind off of Aubrey. Clyde made it a little better, with his easy smile and warmth. We took Cayden and Breon to a movie and allowed them to sit in the row in front of us. They were delighted and felt like they were adults. Clyde put his arm around me and I leaned into him, before I looked up at him.

"Craziest thing an ex has done?" I asked.

He smirked, "Slashed my tires." He said, looking down at me. "You?"

"...hired someone to watch me," I whispered, looking him in the eye.

Clyde studied me, understanding why I'd asked to be with them today. "...How do you know?"

"There's a car parked outside of my house all of the time and I've never noticed until today. It never dawned on me.. until the man got out of the car an-"

"He tried to hurt you?" Clyde interrupted.

"No but he brought me flowers from my ex." I said.

Clyde clenched his jaw and looked at the movie screen. "I'll handle it," Clyde responded.

"Will you and Breon stay? Just until tomorrow." I said.

He nodded and rubbed my arm, "Of course." He said, looking down at me.

When we got back to the house, the Malibu wasn't parked in front of the house so I told Clyde that he could go home. He was reluctant but he left. The next morning, I woke up and looked out of the window to find it there, once again. I pulled out my phone and dialed 911.

"I think she likes him."

I stood in the driveway, with Clyde who was holding Breon on his hip, and a conversation with me. I rubbed my arms, as the chilly air curled around me. Breon lied her head on Clyde's shoulder, sleepily.

Aubrey stood in the stairwell, looking down at the floor - the phone to his ear.

"Why do you say that?" Aubrey asked.

"It just seems like it. They're outside talking now. He came to pick up his daughter." He responded.

"What did you find out about him?" Aubrey asked.

"Name is Clyde, he works for a marketing company. Makes about $95,000 a year. Has a house over in Lorena. His wife died giving birth to his daughter." He said.

Aubrey looked up, "Really?" He asked.

I looked at Breon and stroked her cheek, before I looked at Clyde. "I should get inside and get Cayden ready for bed."

He nodded, "Yeah I should get Breon home, too." He said. "And with the girls becoming good friends... I think it'd be in our best interest to grab dinner sometime."

There was a small twinkle in his eye, accented with the smirk on his face.

"Pick up line?" I asked.

"I worked hard on that one," He said, chuckling. "I had to think of a way to ask you out without sounding opportunistic."

"Using our daughters' friendship? Definitely opportunistic." I said, smiling. "But dinner sounds good." I said softly, not wanting to disrupt Breon's hovering state between awake and not awake.

He grabbed my hand and squeezed it before he kissed my forehead and turned to leave. "Goodnight Ronnie." He said, walking to the car.

"Goodnight," I responded, smiling.

Aubrey hung up the phone and slid it in his pocket before he walked back to the studio. 40 was at the computer. He looked over at him.

"You're letting this s*** eat at you." He said.

"Let's just work," Aubrey responded.

Aubrey sat down and grabbed his cup that he'd left sitting there. He refilled it with Henn and took a gulp before he pulled out his phone and opened a new note. The words came easy tonight.

Ok express I finally read all your stories and none of them got under my skin until I read this one. Throughout the story I was like yes I love them together and by the last add all I can say is THIS b****...that phrase "I love you enough to let you go" is pure bulls*** to me. That nigga is beyond basic as f***! Drake almost lost a fan lol I'm most def not a fan of Clyde at all just like I wasn't a fan of the in between niggas just like in Twice. This got me so heated I almost got in trouble for screaming what the absolute f*** in my dorm. If a nigga pulled this type of s*** on me, they would have to change gun laws in my honor cause I would have completely lost it. I think Cayden needs to guilt that nigga on something serious. I don't even know what else to type besides hfnudsilfja;jcwipfhrafhrwjisafjwofjnkvslfnkwof

Express...fix this! For my life...I can't function like this!

Ughhh it makes me so mad that I was on your side and then you go and f*** up like that......I'm not so sure if she should go there with Clyde...I mean he seems like a great guy and his daughter is so adorable the way she clings to Ronnie but as mad as I am at Aubrey....I feel like he's going to paint his way back into her and Cay's life.

Smh drake wat is u doin bro run it

Aww Bre and Cay are getting along so well. I like the friendship Ronnie and Clyde's building. I think Bre's not the only one loving being around Ronnie. Yeah Clydes falling for her to and vice versa. That's sad about what happened to Bres mom though. Proud of Ronnie she's doing big things got a degree, good job, homeowner. Yeah she's living the life.
Now as for this fool Aubrey, he's losing it. Foreal. He messed up with Ronnie and is missing her. But when he had her he didn't want to keep her. Now he's heavily drinking and having her watched cause he can't deal. Like wtf dude. That's not normal behavior. I hope Ronnie finds.catches on to his stalking lol. Wonder how his trip to LA go. Will he run to Ronnie hmm.Run It.

I like Clyde for her. And for cayden, he's safe and stable. Aubrey needs to get his life smh like seriously dude!! You hired someone to watch her!! Creep Alerttttt!!!

Run it

Wow Thats Crazy...
Run It...

So Drake just can't text Ronnie so he got somebody watching her. I don't like that idea but maybe it's what he thought was best at the moment because of how things are between them now. In the back of my mind I still want Ronnie and Drake to make it work because even though they go through all these problems I still think they can work it out.I'm happy Ronnie got a house and Cayden is fine with it being just the 2 of them from now on.

Aubrey ain't no good!!! I can't believe he has someone following her!! It'v over and he needs to move on! The sooner he does that, the better. I hope Ronnie can get some relief. Ima need Carter to show up and be a dad forreal this time. Where is he? smh Drake is foul for that s*** tho.

Aubrey woke up to the sound of movement in his hotel room. He looked across the room at 40 and yawned. His manager walked into the room and looked at him.

"Get up, c'mon. Let's move." She said.

"Where we headed? I get 48 hours, don't I?' He asked.

"Change of plans. LA for some studio time." She said.

"Why?" He asked.

"Only way we could coordinate schedules with Kendrick. Unless you don't want him on the track... you were so adamant a day ago." She said.

"It's cool, it's cool." He said, his hands raised.

Aubrey stood up and grabbed something to wear before he hopped in the shower. He requested his Hennessy at 1:30pm, and reluctantly, they gave it to him.

"Drinking like a fish lately, bro." Maurice stated.

Aubrey shrugged, "Gotta get through the day." He said.

"s***, we livin, right?!" Maurice said, chuckling. "Where else would you wanna be bro?"

Aubrey got quiet and took another sip from the bottle, before he reclined in his seat and his mind drifted to Veronica. He wanted to text her.. but he never did. Once they got to the airport, he pulled out his phone and called a familiar number.

"Yep." The masculine voice answered on the second ring.

Aubrey stood near the window at the airport, his free hand in his pocket.

"...How's she doin?" He asked softly.

Outside of my house, sat a black Chevy Malibu. "She bought a house. They're outside right now. Cayden's chalking, she's on the steps." He responded.

Aubrey shut his eyes and nodded, "...She seeing somebody?" He asked.

"There's been a guy over here a lot lately, but he brings his daughter for Cayden." He responded.

Aubrey's mind filled with wonder, "Pursue that. Find out who he is." He responded, before he hung up the phone.

I sat on the front porch, watching Cayden draw on the sidewalk when I looked across the street and noticed a Chevy. There was a man in the front seat, looking down. I looked at Cayden and then back at the car. He started it up and drove slowly off down the street. I let the image of the car and the man subside. At the airport, Aubrey walked back to his seat next to 40. 40 looked up from his laptop and glanced at Aubrey.

"Still can't believe you hired somebody to watch her." He mumbled.

Aubrey looked over at him, before he took another sip of Henny. "Gotta do what I gotta do." He mumbled.

I sat on the floor, indian style, with Breon on my lap, as I braided her hair, and talked with Clyde. There was a look of satisfaction on his face, as he sat across from us on the floor, his arms draped over his long legs. When I finished and showed her, she smiled, running her hand over it, before she hopped back into my lap and stayed there. I smiled a little. Cayden came into the room and lied down on the floor, on her stomach. Clyde looked at his watch and then at Breon. Her face started to turn.

"Don't fight it." He said.

"Daddy can I stay with Cayden and Ms. Ronnie, please?" She asked.

"Next weekend, alright? We're going to see grandma tomorrow. You promised." He said.

She pouted and crawled out of my lap. Cayden stood up and followed the two of them to the door. I did too. Breon wiggled out of Clyde's arms and hugged my legs tightly. I kneeled down and hugged her. She held onto me like Cayden used to do, before I left her at daycare. I kissed her cheek. Clyde noticed the length of the hug.

"C'mon Bre. You'll see them next week." He said.

She let go of me and hugged Cayden before she grabbed her father's hand. I put my hand on Cayden's shoulder and smiled at the two of them.

"Thanks for coming by," I said to Clyde. "It was a good day."

He nodded, "Yeah." He said. "Thanks for doing her hair and being so hospitable."

I smiled. "Have a good night," I said.

"You too," He said, looking me in the eye.

I stayed there too for a moment, lost in his eyes, before I blushed and looked away. Breon smirked at me and I returned her smirk. They left and I shut the door, looking at Cayden.

"I'm so schleeeeepy!" Cayden said.

I picked her up and she lied her head on my shoulder. "Can I sleep in your bed?" She asked.

"Why?" I asked.

"My room isn't painted yet! And your bed is like a cloud." She said.

I smiled, "Yeah I guess. But under one condition." I said.

"What?" She asked.

"You have to help me make pancakes in the morning." I said.

"Oooh! I can help! With chocolate chips?" She asked.

"With chocolate chips." I stated.

"Best weekend ever!" She yelled.

"How does it feel to be a homeowner?" He asked, before he took a sip of lemonade.

The soundtrack to our conversation was the girls hopping in and out of the pool. I looked out at them - nothing but pure bliss and carelessness on Cayden's face. Breon shrieked, followed by Cayden chasing her in the grass with a water gun.

"It's nice," I responded, nodding and looking over at him.

He returned the glance and smiled a little, "I'm proud of you. Cayden's proud of you. This is a beautiful thing." He said, nodding.

"Thank you, Clyde." I responded.

He looked back at the girls. "So... where's her dad?" He asked, looking at me.

"Around. He sees her often, when he's not working. I had to put some boundaries between us, so that he remembers that he's only Cayden's father.. not my boyfriend." I said, shaking my head.

"Ah he's one of those, huh?" Clyde said, laughing.

"Breon's mom?" I asked, looking at him.

A look of distance fell over Clyde's face and he cleared his throat. "She died... in labor with Bre." He stated.

My heart fell into a million pieces.

"It's hard to raise a woman." He said, nodding, his eyes fixed on Breon. "When Dawn died, my mom offered to raise Breon.. I wasn't prepared at all. Then my mom fell ill and, I had to bring Breon home from the hospital. Hardest night of my life," He said, recollecting.

I nodded, "I understand."

He looked at me, "You do?" He asked.

"Cayden's father... didn't claim her until she was 6 years old. So I was alone for all of that time. My mom helped out when she could, but she mostly worked. The first night with Cayden was the hardest of my life, too." I stated.

"And here they are," He said, looking out at them now.

"And they're gorgeous, and happy... and inquisitive." I said, smiling.

Breon got out of the pool and ran toward me. I handed her the towel and she dried off. I ran my hand over her head. Clyde watched carefully.

"Can you make my hair look like Cayden's?" She asked.

I laughed, "Oh baby, Cayden's hair does that by itself... but I can do something really cute for the week." I said, nodding. "Let's get you and Cay showered, alright?"

She nodded and smiled at her dad. He kissed her cheek. "You have fun?"

She nodded, "Yeah!"

Cayden came running toward me, before she shook her hair like a dog, wetting me and Clyde. Her and Breon started laughing and I gave her a straight face.

"Don't do that," I said.

She covered her mouth, trying to conceal her laughter. I picked her and Breon up and carried them inside, with Clyde trailing behind me, carrying our glasses.

Run It...

I tightened my grip on my purse, my palms sweaty as the realtor showed us the home I was considering. Cayden was a ball of energy, spinning and marveling at the size of the living room. I'd entered a First-Time Buyer program that was catered toward single mothers. I snapped my finger at Cayden who immediately stopped spinning and followed me into the kitchen. The realtor walked to the back door and opened it. A smile hit my face. Cayden would have a backyard. She grabbed my hand and her eyes lit up.

"Mommy can we buy this one?" She asked, running out into the yard. She stopped and turned around, looking at me. I traced the fence with my eyes. Imagined barbecues, a dog running around... a husband on the grill.

The realtor brought me out of my trance with a bright smile.

"She seems to like it. What do you say?" She asked.

I exhaled and nodded, "Let's sign today."

I shook her hand and Cayden smiled from the grass, "Yahooooo!" She yelled, running toward me.

I picked her up and kissed her cheek, "Do you like it?" I asked, searching her face.

"It's the best!" She said, hugging me tightly. "Can I paint my room whatever color I want?"

I nodded, "Yep. And we can get you a big girl bed, too." I said.

We went inside and I signed every page, as instructed. She gave me the keys. Cayden and I went back to the apartment and continued the packing. She was a big help. I watched her grow more into a little woman with each passing day.

"Be careful with that glass, baby." I said, handing her another sheet of newspaper.

She sat the paper down on the floor and began to wrap the glass, like I'd shown her the other day.

"Can I have a pool party when we move, Mommy? I want to invite Breon." She said.

I nodded, "Of course. And what about Katie?"

"Yes! And Katie!" She said. "I miss her."

I smiled and looked over at her, "Do you miss your daddy?" I asked.

"Sometimes." She said. "But I'm used to you being here."

I smiled, "Is this okay? Just me and you?" I asked.

She nodded, "Yeah. I missed Aubrey at first, but now I like it like this again." She said. "Because you seem happy again."

I smiled at my daughter. My beautiful daughter.

"I love you. You know that, right?" I said.

She nodded and moved her hair out of her face, "Yes and I love you too." She said, before she placed a sloppy kiss on my cheek and let out a giggle.
