Simply Beautiful

I held a firm grip on the can of gold paint and began to move my wrist in swift upward motions repeatedly until one of the areas of my new piece was completed to my satisfaction. It had been in my head for days. Forming itself, putting its own pieces together. It took me about two hours to get it out on paper. It was a beautiful work of art. One of my favorites.

Al Green was blasting through my earphones. I always listened to music while I created something, it kept me from getting easily distracted, I flowed with the rhythm of the music and that was sure to get me through the entire process. I grinned as I finished up the last bit of it. I released a breath and stood back, removing the scarf that I used to avoid inhaling the fumes, from around my face and allowed the chilly fall day's fresh air to finally hit my face after two hours.

The longer I stared at it the more I fell in love with it. It felt like I had created it for a reason that remained unknown. Nonetheless its perfect, and I can feel myself becoming inspired again. I took a look to my left at some other artist's painting that had caught my eye when I got here. It was breathtaking..alluring. It was something surprisingly similar to what I had came here to paint today. I had to stop and marvel at it, like I did every other day with their art. Whoever 'Breezy' is, he is surely talented. I would have to keep my eye out for him or her. For as long as I've been coming here I have never seen who the spot beside mine belonged to. All I knew was that everyday I was here, another one of their stunning murals were too.

I decided to do something daring today and join my art with his. Though I'm most likely gonna get told off for crossing some lines doing so, who would I be not to take a risk? I'm an artist, its what I do on a daily basis.

"Simply beautiful.." I said to nothing in particular.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and snapped a quick picture of it. I then closed the camera application in my iPhone and glanced at the time. It read, 9:45AM. I had a solid 45 minutes to get to work. I bent over and hastily gathered all of the paint cans, tossing them into my duffel bag, then grabbed my backpack that contained my work clothes and cleared out from the alley.

"Be back later" i said to the walls as i strolled by them. All of a sudden having a strange gut feeling that today would be one to remember.

"Someone get me my mom please!" I cried unable to handle the contractions anymore. Whenever they popped up I just let them take me, I was too tired to fight. I craved for my mothers touch, she always knew what to do or say.

"She's five minutes away baby." Spoke Chris as he brushed back the sticky strands of hair from my face. I moaned for a few seconds in pain. My bangs were constantly in my face, annoying me so I asked that whenever they fell, that Chris push them back for me.

"Where's aunt Cam?" I breathed.

"She should be with ya mama." he answered. My eyes were barely open and I was barely comprehending anything around me. All I knew was that Justin was in the waiting room with indigo. The pain had sucked me into it's own world. I had the shakes, I was breaking cold sweats and the cramps I was having were unbelievable.

"Ty!" I heard my moms voice. My eyes peeled open and immediately, I began to break down with tears.

"Mommy." I bawled. Chris stayed by my side wiping away my tears. My mother rushed to my opposite side and placed warm kisses on my cheek, rubbing my belly. She then moved to Chris and captured him in a loving hug.

"How you feelin' papa?" She asked rubbing his back. Chris rubbed a hand over his face and smiled through the exhaust.

"Tired." He chuckled. My mother placed a kiss on his cheek and chortled softly.

"There will be a lot of these nights, trust me." She joked. Chris laughed and returned to his place beside me.

"Have you seen Sharon yet?" Asked my mother.

"Yeah, but she won't be in the room until it's time to deliver she said." Answered Chris.

"You want some more ice chips, honey?" Asked my mother.

"Chris can you get them please?" I begged, he nodded and kissed my forehead before leaving the room. My mother took his place and rubbed my cheeks softly.

"How you feeling?" She asked. I shut my eyes again.

"My..my back hurts and I have cramps and a headache and the contractions are horrible. I'm only at six centimeters. I'm gonna be here forever. Alayah's playing games ma. I'm too tired to play right now." I cried. My mom softly chuckled sympathizing with me.

"She's not playin' games. She's just prepping you and herself, sweetie. Six isn't bad you're almost there. You have to fight through the pain though, be strong..you could be here for a few more hours." She spoke softly.

"I've been here for like four hours already and I've only stretched two centimeters. I'm in painnn." I moaned growing annoyed.

"Why haven't you gotten the epidural yet?" Asked my mother.

"I don't want it yet. I'm trying to have a natural birth. It's my plan." I said determined.

"Just try and relax yourself, don't risk putting yourself of the baby in distress. Want me to play some music or something?"

"No I just want to sleep. Oh God here comes another one!" I yelled squeezing my eyes shut. My mother leant me her hand and talked me through the pain. Chris walked back into the room right on time to see me in pain.

"Try your breathing exercises, honey. Hee-hee-hoo, hee-hee-hoo.." Chanted my mother. Chris took my other hand and breathed with me. I shook my head unable.

"Somebody get me the epidural." I puffed.

"But I though--"

"Get me..the f***ing..epi..dural." I spat as calmly as I could pulling Chris closer to me, looking into his fearful eyes.

"..you ain't gotta tell me twice, damn." He said as he ran out of the room quickly. I let my head drop onto my pillow when the pain passed.

"Heaven help me." I breathed.

"Okay the contractions are like twelve minutes apart now. They last for like a minute and a half, someone remember that s***. Imma forget it." Panicked Justin from the backseat. He held my hand tightly.

"You're worse than Chris. Why don't you just remember it stupid?" I puffed, doing my breathing exercises. My tolerance went right out the window the moment my last contraction started.

"Chris remember that!" He yelled. Chris was probably breaking half of the rules of the road right now, trying hard to get to the hospital. All he wanted was for the nurses to give me the epidural so that he wouldn't have to see me in pain anymore.

"Mags?" He called out to me with his sweet voice. I kept my eyes closed.

"Yeah?" I tried to relax.

"How you doin'?" He asked, concern leaking from his voice.

"I'm okay for another twelve minutes. Did you call everyone?" I asked hoping he did. I promised Mackenzie, Paige and Brooke that I'd call them the moment I was in labor.

"Yeah they comin'." He answered. I felt the car turn and go over a bump and the bright lights outside of the hospital flash through my eyelids. I thanked God for getting me here safely.

"Chris, I'll park and keep Indie. You just get her in there." Said Justin as he opened up his door to get into the drivers seat.

"Aight. Meet us in Labor and Delivery!" Chris ran over to my side with the baby bag on his shoulder. He took me by the arm, helping me out of the car and together we walked side by side through the sliding doors of the emergency room. Chris took us to the elevators and pressed the button to the second floor where Labor and Delivery rooms were.

"Come here." He whispered pulling me into him like he had done in the elevator at home. It helped a lot to be close to him, just the sound of his heartbeat was enough of a distraction from my back pain. I loved the feeling of him rubbing my back in smooth strokes.

"We're gonna be parents soon.." I dragged out. I was exhausted and wanted to sleep badly, but with everything going on inside of me it was physically impossible at this point and time.

"I know..you nervous?" Asked Chris. I chuckled.

"Crazy nervous. You?" I asked.

"Scared as hell..but I know we'll be okay. I can feel it." He whispered. I nodded trusting his words and looked up when the doors opened and the second floor was revealed. I waddled with Chris to the front desk and let him take charge. The nurse was a little star struck at first glance, but she knew now wasn't the time.

"Hey baby, can you please page Doctor Wittiker and tell her that Christian Brown and Tyson Kindle are here." Asked Chris politely. I felt eyes on us and I knew they were all focused more on Chris than me. I sighed and brushed them off as did Chris.

"Okay let me grab a wheelchair and take you two to the room where you'll be delivering." She spoke with pep. I didn't understand how someone could be so peppy at five o'clock in the morning.

"Thank you baby." Said Chris. I tried to smile but the action was cut short when the rippling pain of a contraction came over me. I groaned and squeezed my eyes shut as Chris came to my aid holding my hand. I squeezed his in effort to take away the pain but it wasn't working. I wanted to scream, but I refrained not wanting to attract attention, so I settled for moaning. My knees were about ready to give out as they buckled beneath me. Chris was quick to react and caught me, marriage style.

"Ty-Nurse!" He yelled for the nurse. Soon I was able to sit in the wheelchair she brought for me and she wheeled me off down the hall to the room where I would deliver Alayah. Chris held my hand the entire time.

Ready to meet the baby girl!

Run it!

My baby girl is almost here!!! Happy dance!

I pushed myself to get back to the bedroom and on the way over, I texted Justin, telling him to get dressed and meet us downstairs.

I pushed through the door and walked over to the bed calling Chris' name but he didn't even stir.

"Chris!" I called out to him as I turned on the lamp, but not a muscle was moved. I smacked my lips growing irritated and swiped his pillow from underneath his head throwing it back in his face.

"CHRIS!" I yelled. His head snapped up my way and his eyes wide open, he ran his tongue over his lips in effort to wake up.

"Huh?! Baby? What's wrong?" He asked through sleepy eyes.

"Wake the f*** up! I've been calling you forever!" I huffed, trying to focus on my breathing. Chris, getting a better look at me, noticed my hands cradled around my body and the pool of water soaking through my pants. His eyes widened in surprise.

"Oh s***!" He hopped out of bed and ran over to the dresser to grab his shorts, a beater and another pair of track pants for me to change into before racing back over to me.

"Okay! Aight! Okay babe, how you feelin'?! How's the pain? Scale of one to ten?" He asked trying not to freak out.

"Six! But the contractions are getting stronger." I breathed.

"How far apart?!" He quizzed. I pulled off my pajama pants and tossed them somewhere away from me.

"I don't-I don't know." I breathed leaning back onto my hands. Chris nodded continuously, looking away from me and over to some other part of the room. I followed his gaze to the closet door and looked back to his face finding the look of shock on it.

"Chris?--"

"Yeah! Yeah baby?" He asked snapping back into reality. I pointed to my stomach.

"I'm in labor!" I yelled trying to get his full attention.

"Right! Right! Aight let me get you to the hospital Mags, imma take you to the hospital." He said as he circled the room, grabbing the necessities. He slung the baby bag over his shoulder and walked back over to me, but he froze in front of me. I looked up a him in disbelief.

"...Chris!" I yelled. He shook his head and looked me in the eye.

"Huh?.." He answered.

"Call Sharon and get me to the f***ing hospital!" I cried feeling overwhelmed as the contraction spiked high with pain.

They were cutting closer and closer together as time went by, but I wasn't sure by how many minutes exactly. I shoved my grey Black Pyramid sweatpants and shut my eyes momentarily as the pain faded away, focusing on Chris' phone-call. I watched him hang up and walk over to me to help me stand.

"Aight, she gon' meet us at the hospital. Come on mama." He said as he wrapped his arm around my torso and led us toward the door.

"Indie!" He whistled for our dog who was at attention at the first call.

"Lets go mamas. Outside." He pointed to the door before grabbing her leash and the keys from the kitchen island. Indigo barked and ran out into the hall ready to go. I walked out behind her with Chris hot on my tail.

"Aight. You good Mags?!" He asked as he pressed the button for the elevator and supported my weight. I nodded focusing only on my breathing. It was getting easier to handle the contractions since they were so recurring. Chris guided me into the elevator and pressed the main floor button. Pulling me into him, I rested my face in his chest breathing in his even to relax me. I gripped onto the straps of his beater and closed my eyes while he kissed the crown of my head repeatedly.

"You aight babe, you good." He soothed me running my back gently. I moaned into him. The elevator bell dinged as we arrived on the first floor and the doors opened up to reveal a pacing Justin, dressed in sweats and house slippers.

"Ey Jay, what--"

"Ty texted me. Told me she was going into labor and to meet you guys down here." He answered coming to my side to take hold of my hand.

"Aight, imma bring the car around. Y'all wait here. Indie!" Said Chris as he and Indigo exited the building.

I shifted my weight and leaned into Justin's side.

"Justin?" I called.

"Yeah sweetheart?" He answered rubbing my back.

"Time this." I spoke as quick as I could.

"Time what?" He asked. Clenching my jaw, I grabbed his hand tight as another contraction came along. Justin groaned and cringed in pain.

"Ow--Ty. Ty. Tyson, Tyson, Tyson I can't- I can't feel my han--Ahhh!--"

"Ahhhhh!" I screamed with Justin in pain.

those were real contractions girl!! she shouldve been timing them! alayah is on her way!!! yayy!!!

I shifted underneath the covers, feeling the sharp pain sneak up on me yet again for the third time since I fell asleep. It was as if it were growing stronger as the time passed during the night. Groaning I turned onto my side hoping it would let up.

"Mags man, stop tossin'." Mumbled Chris into his pillow as he slept peacefully on his stomach. I winced, heaving a sigh in pain.

"Sorry, Alayah's kicking again. I don't know why she won't settle.." I grunted trying to find a comfortable position.

I breathed when the pain suddenly subsided. Looking over to my nightstand I grew angry seeing the time was 4:05am. I didn't know why Alayah was moving much and was beginning to grow worried. I grabbed my phone and dialed my mother when my back began to hurt.

"Ty?--"

"Mommy." I cried into the phone, the discomfort finally getting the best of me.

"Honey, what's wrong?" She asked trying to rid the sleep from her voice.

"I don't know, I think I'm having those Braxton contractions again." I wiped the tear before it reached the bottom of my jawline.

"Okay honey it's okay, just breath and try and find a comfortable position--"

"I've tried that, it's not working I just keep tossing and turning." I said pushing myself up against the bed frame.

"Where's Chris?" She asked.

"Sleeping. Mom what do I do?" I asked.

"Get up and try walking around, the pains should subside after a bit, baby." Said my mother. I nodded and forced my legs over the side of the bed. Chris shifted in his sleep, I pushed myself off of the bed and stood to my feet holding my back.

"Okay?" Asked my mom. I breathed in through my nose and out through my mouth.

"Okay. I'll call you back." I told her.

"Alright, make sure so that I know you're okay." She asked of me.

"Yeah." I said before hanging up.

Walking to the bathroom felt like it took forever. I couldn't focus on anything, only my breathing. Not able to take the sharp feeling that had arose on my way to the bathroom anymore, I stood in front of the counter, placed my hands on the edge of it, and leaned over remembering the last time I had these contractions and Sharon telling me to try different positions to ease the pain. It was helping somewhat.

Moaning, I let my head drop forward, feeling the pain again and then my neck snapped up when I felt the gush of fluid run down my thighs. I looked into the mirror into my own panic stricken eyes and felt the shock creep up into my heart.

"Chri-....Chri-....Chris.......Chris.." I stuttered unable to raise my voice. The pain grew stronger with the ticking seconds causing me to double over the sink.

"Chris!" I strained, not nearly as loud as I wanted my voice to be. I "heed" and "hooed" as I waddled out of the bathroom cradling my stomach and holding onto my back in pain.

"I missed my bed. So good to be back." I said as I took a seat on the edge of the bed. Chris and I had just gotten home from my mothers place. I looked over at the clock and read that it was going on midnight. Chris came into the room behind me, resting the baby bag on the chair by the door and began to strip his clothes off starting with his shirt.

"Ouh and I missed my baby daddy too!" I squealed and laughed when Chris' face twisted up into one of disgust and amusement mixed together.

"Ew. Mags, don't ever call me that again." He said as he folded his shirt and rested it on top of the dresser. I laughed.

"Oh come on!" I said.

"Woman, no." He said trying to be firm, but I caught the smirk playing at the corner of his lips.

"Well, why not?" I asked.

"Because I'm a man, and men don't stand for them type of labels. Let this be known." He said beating his chest. I nearly fell back in laughter.

"I ain't ya baby daddy, I'm ya man. I'm THE man." He continued the beating on his chest and I felt the tears come to my eyes when he began barking like a dog. Indigo waltzed into the bedroom hearing the noise and followed suit. Pretty soon that's all the noise there was, barking. I covered my ears.

"Shut up!" I yelled over them getting them to quiet down. I eyed Indigo who stood there clueless before leaving the room and then looked up to Chris who had a knowing smile on his face.

"You guys are so dumb sometimes." I shook my head.

"Go to sleep woman." Grinned Chris as he came over to the bed after shutting off the lights. He kissed my lips softly when I joined him under the sheets. Trying to get comfortable I winced again at the sharp pain in my abdomen.

"You good ma?" Asked Chris with an alarmed face. I focused on rubbing my tummy in circles trying to relax.

"Yeah, it's just Layah, pressing on my insides. It's super uncomfortable." I answered running my tongue quickly over my bottom lip. Chris peeled the blanket off of my upper body and removed my hand from my stomach. He placed tiny kisses all over it before he started rubbing smooth circles.

"Layah..s'time for bed baby girl..let mommy relax aight? Do that for daddy, baby." He cooed softly into the dimly lit room. I smiled, loving the connection between the two. He kissed my stomach one more time before he went back underneath the covers.

"Love you baby." He whispered, kissing my temple.

"Love you too." I smiled into the darkness, the only light was from the moon. It illuminated the room so beautifully, I had to stay up a little longer just to take everything in. I eyed Chris' silhouette, following the dips and curves on the exposed parts of his body.

The man beside me was so beautiful.

"Baby, go to sleep." Mumbled Chris keeping his eyes shut. I curled up as close as my belly would allow me to and rested my head on his bare, tatted chest and listened to the sound of his heartbeat.

The pain was finally gone, thankfully. I shut my eyes and let the exhaustion take over, sending me into a deep slumber.

"Disinfect the apartment, Chris. Before you leave to pick me up."I said into the phone that sat on the rim of the deep tub in my mothers bathroom. My fingers played with my foam covered belly that peaked just above the water. I could feel Alayah moving and winced as she pushed against my ribcage. All I could hear was the sound of Chris' lips smacking together. I rolled my eyes.

"I told you I already did earlier. I knew I had to bring you home already. Why you ain't believe me?" He questioned.

"I don't know..I just feel like reminding you." I shrugged.

"Loser." Said Chris. The familiar sound of shooting was clear in the background.

"Playing Call of Duty?" I asked sinking a little further into the tub.

"Yeah baby, where's ya mama?" He asked.

"Went to go pick up some takeout about ten minutes away from here. I was craving Chinese." I answered. Chris chuckled.

"Where's Aunty?" He said.

"She had to go into work, someone called in sick." I answered, missing her presence.

"They left ya false alarming ass by yourself? What if you actually go into labour and ain't none of them around?!" Panicked Chris. I rolled my eyes.

"Then I will get on my mama's bicycle and take myself to the hospital." I joked. The noise in the background cut off which told me that he had paused the game.

"Tyson you done lost ya mind? Don't joke about something like that. Someone shoulda stayed with you." He expressed. I heaved a sigh running a wet pruned looking hand down my neck and past my collarbone.

"Relax Chris. Ma will be back soon." I answered trying to get him to relax. Knowing Chris he was probably already out of the door.

"Kill that. Imma come pick you up now. Get ready." He answered quickly. I put an imaginary gun to my head using my fingers.

"I'm not leaving til' ma comes back. It'll be rude if I just leave without a trace..and I want my damn Chinese food." I said with an attitude that let Chris know I was serious.

"Yeah whatever. I'll chill there for a while, that way you ain't gon be by yourself." He explained. I heard the sound of the elevator and rose an eyebrow.

"Look at this eager beaver." I laughed at how quick he was to leave the apartment.

"Shut up. Watch, when you done with this pregnancy and you lose that belly and heal up and everything..we gon' fight." He said. I only laughed harder.

"Whatever, just get here already. I want your company b****." I said earning a laugh from him.

"You're such a weirdo. Imma go and call Charlie, girl bye." He said before hanging up. I sighed in content sinking further into the tub, letting the water soothe my body.

Alayah pressed up against cervix causing a sharp pain in my ribs and my lower abdomen. I moaned as my face twisted in discomfort and rubbed my tummy trying to get her to stay put.

"Relax baby..shh.." I spoke, closing my eyes.

i knew he was gonna say that! lol
