Inside My Love.

I pulled up in front of the large building, adorned with dark LED lights. The parking lot was being swept by a young boy in Jordan's. He couldn't have been much older than me. I tightened the strap on my purse and walked towards the door apprehensively. It had come down to this. I didn't have another option. I knocked softly on the door at first... only for it not to be answered. The boy that was sweeping approached and hit the door loudly with his hand flat. I jumped, startled and looked at him. He tossed me a smirk and went back to sweeping. The door opened and he stood there, looking me up and down.

"...Who referred you?" He asked.

I put my hair behind my ear and parted my lips to say something but nothing came out. I shrugged. He studied me once more and looked me dead in the eye.

"Name?" He asked.

"Veronica... I go by Ronnie." I said softly.

He opened the door wider for me to come in, so I did. I hadn't ever been to one of these places, I'd only heard about them... saw them in movies. I looked around wondrously, and heard the giggles of females arriving and leaving, all of them carrying gym bags. I studied their curves and looked down at myself.

"What you here for..." He asked, dismissively. His eyes didn't dance in my direction, as he strolled casually beside me, checking out everything on the floor - making sure nothing was out of place.

He stopped suddenly and I did too.

"...I need a job," I said, searching his face.

He snickered. "So go to the mall and fill out applications, sweetheart. This isn't something for your resume,"

"I understand that," I said, shaking my head. "I wouldn't be here if I didn't need to be. I need a job," I said, pleading with my eyes.

He scratched his face, as he ruminated. He pointed to the bar. "You start there," He said, before he began to walk.

"I was hoping to dance!" I called after him.

He shook his head, "We'll see,"

I exhaled, and dropped my bag on the floor before the DJ put on some music. I looked around and sat down on one of the bar stools. Well... at least I had a job.

yes I kinda wish it would've kept going :'(

im going to assume that was the end of the story and ronni, clyde, and the girls became a family and lived happily ever after :)

I was never a fan of Clyde but Drake? That man is on my nerves. Like be humble about your s***. If you want her back don't stalk her and then be like I know Ima get you back cause you love me...TF?! I still don't want her with Clyde, but the kids are involved so seeing them hurt is something I don't wanna see. He should just attempt to be a friend...I can't say don't let them not ever get together cause I def didn't read the story for Clyde (unless he was Chris lol) but chill the f*** out nigga...

Run it!

this story is slowly reminding me of Dreams by J.Cole in some ways. Aubrey is irritating. just go away!! he knows shes moved on but doesn't want to accept it. crazy stalking ass

Run it

I'm still team Aubrey. He just wasn't ready for Ronnie when they first got together but I think he's ready now.

Ronnie is in denial about her feelings for Aubrey. She doesn't want them because she's afraid she and Cay are gonna get hurt and I don't blame her.

I don't want her with Clyde I never did.

Every one of your stories that Drake is in he always gets pushed to the side. Can have finally be the one in this story? Lol

Im all for drake bt he dnt need to push his way n jus take it slow n lol them lil girls slick lolbt she no she still love her sum drake run it

I just want Ronnie to be happy and to be a great mother to Cayden. She should just stay focus on her and Cayden and a great man would come to her. I don't know what Drake be thinking but maybe he just needs to love Ronnie from a distance. Run it

Aubrey got some nerve lol

Wow, RUN IT!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I love Aubrey lol am i the only one thats rooting for him right now????

he's such an a**hole trying to stay for dinner lol

those little ladies are slick i admit...but i got a feeling aubrey is gonna break that wall ....he always does...especially if cayden lets him back in

Run it like DMC!!!!

Good 4 Her....
Run It...

This nigga Aubrey can't be serious. You dont just constantly break someone's heart and then expect them to jst come back to you when your ready for them again. No Ronnie's moving on with her life with a stable man who knows what he wants in life. No games. I liked Aubrey but Ronnie's outgrown him, it's time to move on. Even Caydens not looking at him anymore. LOL at her having Breon call Clyde. Bye Aubrey.
So glad you added. RUN IT!!!

She shoulda told that nigga off!! Like "No he was getting the f*** on!" bye nigga. I still can't believe he had someone following her!! He on some b**** s***. I hope he kinda disappears. I never wanted to hate Drake cuz he my nigga but damn he make it hard not to. Lol Run it!!

Aubrey put the address into his GPS and hopped on the freeway, with a bouquet of roses in his passenger's seat and a head full of expectations. It had been a while. She'd be happy to see him. He'd apologize for hiring someone to watch her. She'd except after a conversation. Cayden would embrace him with open arms. He'd convince them to go with him to Toronto for a little while. Everything would be fine.

But he'd forgotten about Clyde, and was reminded when he pulled up in front of the house and found him leaving the house, with Veronica following, a smile on her face. He said something to her, once at the end of the driveway and she ran toward him, pushing him playfully. Aubrey watched from across the street. Clyde grabbed Veronica's hands and kissed him repeatedly before he looked toward the house and saw Breon and Cayden at the door. He let go of Veronica's hands and smiled sheepishly. Veronica waved goodbye and walked backward, looking at him, as she headed to the door. Clyde got in his car and drove off. Veronica stood in the grass, watching him leave.

Aubrey parked across the street from the house and grabbed the flowers, before he got out of the car.

I scanned the houses, when I heard a door slam. I looked across the street to see Aubrey standing outside of his car. My face swelled with tears and I shook my head.

"Hear me out," He said, approaching.

"No get away from me." I said, extending my arm in front of me.

"Ronnie, I'm sorry." He said.

"Sorry for what? Hiring someone to watch me or showing up whenever you feel like it?" I asked, searching his face.

"Both." He responded. "Can we talk? I've been thinking about you, a lot. I've been writing, getting my head together."

Cayden and Breon walked out onto the porch, carrying their pail of chalk. Cayden didn't notice Aubrey at first but he was glued to her, noticing how much she'd grown. She sat the pail down.

"Mommy-" She started, but stopped when she saw Aubrey.

Breon stared at him too, not sure who he was. Aubrey smiled at Cayden.

"Hey Cay." He said.

"Hi," She said softly.

She looked at him like he was a stranger... someone she hadn't met before. She walked toward me with caution and grabbed my leg, looking up at him. My tears had began to fall but I wiped them away before Breon saw me crying.

"How you like the house?" He asked.

I nodded, "I like it." I said softly.

"It's beautiful, Ronnie." He said, examining it.

Cayden ran back to Breon and whispered something to her. Breon mugged Aubrey and the two of them sat down in the driveway.

"I brought you these." He said, handing me the flowers.

He was nervous. I could tell. I took them from him and looked him in the eye once more.

"...I don't want this anymore, Aubrey. The inconsistency. You. I don't want this relationship. I've moved on. Grown without you." I said.

Aubrey didn't believe her, and he knew deep inside that in due time he'd have her back. He just had to tread carefully and strategize. Clyde could complicate things, but he wasn't worried... He was unaware of just how much Veronica had fallen for Clyde and Breon, however. She wanted different things. Aubrey walked toward Breon and Cayden and kneeled down, looking at what they'd drawn. I sat on the steps and looked down at the flowers. He stood up and walked toward me, sitting down on the steps. He moved my hair out of my eyes and my face swelled again.

"Don't do that," I said softly.

Cayden watched from the driveway and her blood began to boil. She looked at Breon.

"Can you call your daddy?" She asked.

Breon met her gaze and nodded, before she ran inside. I looked back at Cayden to see her looking at me. There was sadness all over her face but I reassured her with a smile. She looked away from me. Aubrey was comfortable next to me now, asking me questions about my life. Soon I saw Clyde's car pull up and my heartbeat quickened. I hopped up and Clyde got out of the car, looking over at me and Aubrey. Perplexed, he walked toward the driveway apprehensively.

"Hey, you're here already?." I asked.

"Breon called. Said she forgot to pack her toothbrush. Is that Drake?" He asked.

Aubrey stood up and extended his hand, "Hey man, I'm Aubrey."

Clyde shook his hand and looked at me. I exhaled and smiled down at Breon, "You know that you have a toothbrush here already."

"Oh I forgot," Breon said, a sly smile on her face.

Cayden stood up and walked toward us. She looked up at Clyde, "You should stay for dinner!" She said.

"Y'all already have a guest, I wouldn't want to intrude." He said, looking me dead in the eye.

"Aubrey was just stopping by, right?" I asked, looking over at him.

Aubrey looked at me and then at Clyde, "Right." He stated. "But I am hungry... if there's going to be food." He said, smiling.

Clyde raised his eyebrows, "I'll go then." He said.

"No stay, please." I said. "Aubrey... you have something to do, right?" I said, emphatically.

"Not really." He responded, a small smirk on his face.

"Excuse me," I said to Clyde.

I shoved Aubrey and continued to push him until he was near the street.

"What?" He asked, his hands up, laughing.

"Are you trying to ruin my life? Get out of here. I don't like you." I said.

"You're right... but you do love me. And that I know is a fact. This guy was a stand-in, until I got back." He said.

"You're full of yourself. Just get out of here." I said, turning to leave.

"So then I'll see you later." He said.

"Goodbye, Aubrey." I responded, walking back to Clyde.

Clyde looked at Aubrey, jealousy on his face. I looked at the girls to see them settled back into their chalk before I grabbed Clyde's hand and kissed his cheek. He looked at me.

"...he's back?" He asked.

I shook my head, "No. There's no place for him here." I said.

Clyde nodded, "You're sure?"

"I'm positive." I said.

Cayden sat on the floor of my room, drawing, while I read my newest Essence. She abandoned her drawing finally and got on my bed, crawling into my lap. I put my magazine down and ran my fingers through her hair. She smiled at me and I held her tightly.

"Did you cuddle like this with grandma?" She asked.

"Nope." I responded. "Didn't get to do that."

"Well how did you learn?" She asked.

"I didn't have to learn." I said. "I just like to hold you."

Cayden lied there quietly before she wiggled finally, as expected.

"Will you be honest?" She asked.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"Will you be honest? Are me and Breon gonna be sisters?" She asked.

I chuckled, "No, Cayden."

"You and Clyde are friends, and me and Breon are friends and we are all together sometimes and Clyde likes you." She said.

"How do you know that Clyde likes me?" I asked.

"Breon heard him say it on the phone. Said that he wants to take you out and get to know you better." She said, a big smile on her face.

"Well if he did say that, which I don't believe coming from you, then that's very nice. But we were just talking about how we like our time alone, right?" I asked.

"Yes! I love you and me. But he's really nice mommy. Nicer than anybody." She said.

"You're biased." I said.

"What's biased mean?" She asked.

"I'll tell you later." I said.

She buried her face in my chest, "Can we get a little doggy?" She asked.

"You have to be able to take care of it." I said.

"I can take care of it!" She shrieked. "I can take it for a walk and pick up the poop and give it a bath and feed it! And throw bones at it! I took care of October." She said.

A smile hit my lips as I remembered she and October's strange friendship.

"Alright I'll think about it." I said.

"Can I read your magazine with you?" She asked.

I nodded and sat up. She leaned up against my chest and helped me hold the magazine. I let her read me a recipe in the back, since she wasn't old enough to read anything else.

I dropped Cayden off at Clyde's while I went down to the police station for questioning. I picked the driver of the car out of a lineup and sat around, drinking bad coffee while they interrogated him. I sat forward on my knees, looking straight ahead when one of the detectives came out.

"Veronica," He called.

I looked up at him and stood up, following him into the room with the driver. His face was blank, like he was used to this. One of the officers sat on the edge of the table and looked at me. I looked up at him and then at the driver.

"Do you know an Aubrey Graham?" He asked.

I nodded, "Yes." I said softly. "He's my ex."

"Aubrey hired this gentleman to look after you and your daughter, Cayden. He's also a detective from another department. No malice was intended." He said softly and clearly.

I looked back at the man and then at him, "So nothing will be done?" I asked.

"Well, that's up to you. You could file a restraining order, but on our end, there's nothing that we can do." He stated.

I looked at the driver, "Tell Aubrey to leave us alone, alright? He made his choice." I said, before I stood up. "And don't come near my house anymore."

I put my hood over my head and left the station, angry and confused. When I got to Clyde's, he answered the door, with concern all over his face.

"Did you get it figured out?" He asked.

"Yeah I think so," I said softly, walking in with my arms folded.

Cayden ran up to me and smiled, hanging onto my legs. "Clyde bought pizza!"

"Are you hungry?" He asked me.

"I'm starving." I responded, looking over at him.

He picked up Cayden and grabbed my hand, leading me toward the kitchen where Breon was waiting with a plate. She smiled at me and ran toward me, hugging my legs. I kneeled down and picked her up, kissing her cheek. Cayden, in Clyde's arms, smiled over at Breon, who was smiling at her from my arms. I grabbed a slice of pizza and took a bite before I looked at Clyde.

"Thanks for keeping her," I said.

The four of us together felt like a family that night... and since Clyde and I were so broken, we enjoyed feeling whole, even if it was for a little while.
