Asia looked between the both of us, but her eyes went back to her mother. I felt my heart thumping harder and harder than normal as I stared at her. She came closer to us, and Regina tried to keep her balance.

“What the f*** is going on?” She asked calmly, but sternly.

“Babe—,” she held her hand up.

“You’re cool baby,” she glared at her mother. “Do you have anything to say for yourself Regina?”

“I don’t have anything to say to you.” She slurred her words, and Asia shook her head.

“Mom—you’re pathetic. What kind of mother would hit on their daughter’s fiancé?” She looked her up and down. “You make me sick just to look at you.”

“Whatever little girl—,” she shook her head, “if I want your lil’ man I could have him.”

“Please Regina—he doesn’t want you. I’m done with you. I don’t want nothing else to do with you. I don’t want you at my wedding. You can no longer see your grandchildren. We’re through.” I grabbed her hand and pulled her away from her mother.

“Babe—,” she shook her head.

“I just want us to go home. I just want to go home.” This wasn’t how I wanted our night to end. I wanted it to end perfectly, but as you can see it didn’t.

I slipped out of my shoes as Chris was in the bathroom after we put our babies to sleep. I plopped down on my bed with my hands in my lap. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I took my earrings off. I let my hair down and looked up. I wiped my tears away and sighed heavily. I heard the door reopening, and Chris walked in his sweats. He walked over to me and sat down on the bed.

“My mom is such a f***in’ class act.” I chuckled slightly. “Why would she do this to me--her only child? I can’t believe her.” I licked my lips and dropped my head. “I don’t have anybody to walk me down the aisle.” Chris wrapped his arm around me and pulled me close.

“It’s okay babe. Y’know that my mom would love to walk you down the aisle.” He kissed the top of my head. “Don’t worry about your mom. Don’t let her ruin our day.” I wrapped my arms around his lower body as I rested my head on his chest. I sniffed and exhaled the breath I was holding. “Everything’s going to be okay. I love you.” I pulled away from his chest and looked into his sweet brown eyes.

“I love you too baby.” I leaned forward and pressed my lips against his. I caressed his cheek as our kiss deepened. I pulled away and rested my head against his.

{Chapter 44}

“Aww she’s so beautiful. He’s adorable. He looks like you Chris. She looks like Asia. They are so cute together. He made the right choice. I’m glad that he’s settling down. He’s finally grown up. He’s a man now. Look at my baby. I’m so proud of you.” That’s what I heard all night. Our families are getting a long just fine. I think things would have been worse as the night progressed, but it didn’t. Every thing went smoothly for us, and I was glad. I was talking to my cousins James and my best man and friend Barry when she touched my arm. I turned and smiled when I saw her standing by me.

“Hey babe,” I gave her a kiss and pulled away. She grabbed my hand and started to pull me away.

“C’mon I wanna dance.” I excused myself and followed her onto the dance floor. I spun her, and she giggled as I pulled her in my arms. She wrapped her arms around my neck as I held her close. I rested my head against hers as we stared into each other eyes as the sounds of John Legend were booming from the speakers.

“I love you.”

She smiled softly. “I love you too.” I pecked her lips and held her gaze.

“Where are Jr. and Crystal?”

“With our mothers.” I bit down on my bottom lip as she ran her fingernails up and down my neck. For the next few minutes, just staring into each other eyes and not sayin a word was complete bliss to me. I felt like we were the only two in the room. I was ready to marry this woman and spend the rest of my life with her. She completes me.

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for coming out and accepting both of us into your families.” I smiled softly as Chris pulled me close to him. “I don’t know what else there is to say except that, I’m ready for my big day—our big day.” I looked at him. “When I first met Chris, I was a little skeptical, but when we got to talking and getting to know each other, I knew I had the one. We have our ups and downs, but we held it together. He’s an amazing man and father to our beautiful twins, and I love him with all my heart. I can’t wait to marry you.” He smiled at me and mouthed I love you. My smile got bigger, and he kissed my lips. He sighed softly, and I rested my hand against his as he looked out at his family and mine.

“What can I say? Well first like Asia said, thanks so much for accepting us. I’m glad to see ya’ll getting along and not wringing each other necks.” Chuckle filled the room, and I smiled. “But really, thank you.” He looked down at his feet. “Before I met Asia, I was in a long relationship, and it ended disgustingly. I was heartbroken and didn’t want to do anything. If it wasn’t,” he looked up. “For my sister or my friends getting me out of my house, I wouldn’t have met Asia.” I saw a smile coming across his lips. “I guess to me it was like love at first sight. She became my friend and then my lover, the mother of my children, and now soon to be wife. We been through so much together and fought through it. Whenever I needed her, she was always there for me.” He brought his eyes to me. “I love you so much Asia, I can’t wait for us to be one.” I felt the tears swelling up in my eyes. I caressed his cheek, and he leaned down kissing me softly. The room exploded with cheers and applause, and we pulled away from our kiss. I couldn’t wait for our day… I was complete.

I was walking out of the bathroom and smiled when I saw Asia’s mother passing by. She stopped and smiled.

“Hey Chris.”

“Hey Regina.” I gave her a smile back.

“Are you ready for your big day in the Caribbean?” Just the thought of marrying my woman just brought a wider grin across my lips.

“I’m ready to have my wife. I’m in love.” She nodded and smiled.

“I’ve always waited for this day for her. She found herself a good man,” I looked at her weirdly. I felt a sense of a little flirting. The way she looked at me made me a little sick to my stomach.

“Well I better get back out there. Asia’s probably looking for me.” I started to walk away, but Regina rested her hand on my chest stopping me.

“Let the girl breath right now, and get to know me a little better.” I threw a little bit in my mouth as I stared at this woman. Was she really serious? “Don’t you want to get to know me?” She rested her hand on my chest, pushing herself on me.

“Miss Regina,” I grabbed her hands. “No disrespect, but you’re not my type. And besides, you should be ashamed for yourself hitting on your future son-in-law. It’s a little pathetic.” Before I knew it I felt her lips against mine, and I pushed her back quickly.

“Chris? Mom?!” My head snapped to the left. My heart dropped in my stomach.

“Crystal—,” I sang as I stared at my little girl. My boy and girl are now seven months old, and I was in love with them more and more each day. She looked down at me as I held her up and smiled at her. She laughed loudly and clapped her hands together. “Look at daddy’s little girl.” I brought her back in front of me and kissed her chubby cheek. She rested her hands on my face and tried to gnaw on my nose.

“Babe,” I heard Asia yell for me. “Look.” I looked up from the floor. I watched as she let go of CJ’s hands, and he started to walk. I sat Crystal down on the blanket and watched my son. A smile spread across my face as he walked towards me.

“C’mon CJ, you can do it.” Asia stayed behind him as he slowly made his way towards me stumbling a few times. He looked at me and stopped for a second. He bounced and laughed. “C’mon. You almost there.” He started walking again and made it to me. I picked him up and laid on my back holding him in the air. “You did it Jr!”

“Yay!” Asia beamed as she sat next to me as CJ shrieked happily and moved his arms up and down. I sat back up and sat Jr. on my lap. I looked over at my soon to be wife and pecked her lips.

“I love you.”

“I love you too baby.” I pecked her lips again. Crystal crawled over to us, and Asia picked her up. She kissed the top of her head, and I chuckled softly as I watched Crystal tried to shove her fist into her mouth. “I can’t believe in the next five days I’ll be Mrs. Christopher Brown.” She smiled as she rested her head against mine.

“Are you ready?”

“Ready for what?”

“Our families meeting for the first time.”

“I’m so scared,” she chuckled slightly.

“We’ll be okay babe. Everything will go okay.” I kissed her again. I know that my mom and sister love Asia to death, but I don’t know about the rest of my family, BUT to me it doesn’t matter if they love her or not. I love her, and she’s still going to be my wife. I just hope that tonight will go just fine before we got to the Caribbean for our wedding.

I raked my fingers through my hair for the last time as I stood in the mirror in the bathroom. I sighed heavily as I pressed my palms on the marble sink. I was so nervous that my extended family wasn’t going to get along with Chris or his family, but it doesn’t matter because he’s the love of my life. I was going to marry him regardless, but I just hope that this night goes off without a hitch.

“Asia! C’mon! We’re gonna be late!”

“I’m coming,” I walked out of the bathroom and headed into the bedroom. I grabbed my heels and slipped my feet into them. I walked out of the room and down the hall to the steps. “Are Crystal and Jr. ready?”

“Yes babe, they’re strapped up and ready to go!” I came down the steps and sighed softly. Chris stared at me and smiled. “What?”

“You look beautiful,” I smiled. I wore a simple strapless black dress and black pumps. Some of my hair up and some of it down in curls and little makeup with silver earrings. I didn’t want to over do it.

“Thank you babe.” I walked over to him and gave him a quick kiss. He held my coat open, and I smiled. “Thank you,” I slipped my arms into the sleeves and hugged the coat against my chest.

“Ready?”

“Yes, I’m ready.” I grabbed Crystal’s car seat, and Chris grabbed Jr. and the diaper bag. We made our way out of the house, and Chris locked up. I put Crystal in the back and strapped her in. I climbed into the front seat and sighed heavily. I slipped on my seat belt as Chris got Jr. into the truck. He buckled Jr. up and closed the door. He hopped into the driver’s seat and put the key into the ignition. I sat back in my seat, and Chris grabbed my hand. I looked at him, and he gave me a soft smile.

“We still have each other right?”

“Of course, always and forever.” I leaned over and kissed him. He smiled against my lips, and I sat back as he pulled out of the driveway.

I hope tonight is a good night…

We sat in the waiting room, and Chris held my hand as my left leg bounced up and down. Crystal was with Joyce and Abby, and she was fine, but what was wrong with Jr. ? It scared me when I picked him up, and he was burning up. Chris wrapped his arm around me and pulled me close as I cried against his chest. He gave me a kiss on my forehead and sighed.

“It’s okay babe. He’s gonna be okay.”

“I’m scared Chris. It just scares me so much. I don’t know what I would do if something is serious with CJ.”

“Just relax, he’s fine.” He rubbed his thumb across my knuckles as we sat there.

“What’s taking them so long?” I looked around and sighed heavily. “I’m tired of waiting.” Before I could say another word, a doctor was walking our way. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as we stood up.

“I’m Doctor Nicholson, “she smiled softly as we shook her hand. “ I just wanted to let you know that Christopher Jr. is doing fine. He just has a slight fever.” I sighed in relief and smiled. “We’re just going to watch him overnight to make sure his temperature stays down.”

“Can we see him?”

“Yes you may, he’s down the hall. You’ll be able to see him through the window, and you guys can stay the night. We have room for you. ”

“Thank you,” Chris smiled and shook her hand again. She smiled and walked away. He wrapped his arms around me, and I buried my head into his chest.

“You wanna stay with him. I’ll bring you some fresh clothes so you can change.”

“I don’t want you to leave.”

“Babe—I’ll be right back. I promise.” He pulled away from me and cupped my face. “Just go to his room and stay with him, I’ll be back.” He pecked my lips and pushed my hair back. “I love you.”

I looked into his eyes and smiled softly. “I love you too.” He pulled away from me and headed down the hall. I raked my fingers through my hair and headed towards CJ’s room. My heart was beating in my chest as I got closer to the window. I sighed heavily as I leaned against and found my baby. He looked so peacefully as he slept. I smiled over at my baby boy, and a tear trickled down my cheek.

“Mommy loves you baby.”

I smiled softly as Asia was knocked out in the hospital bed in the room that the doctor let us use. I sat her clothes down in a chair in the room and took off my jacket. I walked over to the bed and slipped out of my shoes. I climbed in next to her, and she moved around. She opened her eyes and moved closer to me. She sighed as I wrapped my arms around her and held her close.

“Did you see him?” She asked quietly.

“Yeah,” I yawned.

“Get some sleep babe.”

“I will.” I kissed the top of her head and held her to me. I listened to her steady breathing and let sleep consume me.

Here we are again, standing in front of Chris’ mother’s door waiting for her to answer. Once again, I’m nervous. My hands were sweating, and my heart was beating twice as hard, twice as fast. I swallowed and squeezed Chris’ hand. He looked over at me and frowned a little.

“Are you okay?”

“I’m just nervous, that’s all.”

“You have NOTHING to be worried about A. It’s my mom. She’s gonna be happy. She loves you.”

“I know but—,” he shook his head.

“But nothing, I got you okay. Everything’s going to be fine.” He leaned down and kissed my forehead as the door was opening. Abby smiled as she looked at us.

“Hey,” she let us in and closed the door behind us. “Ya’ll here early.”

“We have something to tell mama, where is she?” Chris looked at his sister.

“She’s in the kitchen cooking breakfast.” She kneel down and unhooked Crystal out of her car seat. She held her in her arms as she stood up. “Hey mamas,” she gave Crystal a kiss on her chubby cheek, and Crystal cooed. Right on cue, Jr. started to cry.

“Awww... My baby boy wants attention too.” Chris got Jr. out of his seat and picked him up. “Shhh… It’s okay, daddy’s got you.” He calmed down, and I smiled at the image of my two boys.

“What’s going on out here?” Joyce walked into the foyer of the house and smiled when she saw us. “Hey baby.”

“Hey mama,” she walked over to her son, and he gave her a kiss on the cheek.

“How you doin’ Asia?” She walked over to me and gave me a hug and a kiss.

“Hey Mama J.” She pulled away and sighed.

“So what brings ya’ll here so early?”

“Well mama,” he grabbed my hand and pulled me close. “We have some news.”

“You’re pregnant aren’t you?” We looked at Abby. “What?” Chris rolled his eyes at his sister.

“No, Asia isn’t pregnant.” He looked at me and smiled. “We’re getting married.”

“What?!” They said in unison.

Chris chuckled softly and looked at his mom. “We’re getting married.” Joyce smiled and wrapped her arm around her son. Chris smiled as he hugged his mother. I sighed heavily in relief as they hugged. I really thought she was gonna flip out and just say it was too soon or something crazy, but we have two kids, and it’s time to be a complete family.

“Congratulations baby,” she kissed his cheek.

“Thank you.” She pulled away from him and walked over to me. She gave me a warm hug.

“Congrats.”

“Thanks.” We pulled away.

“I wanna see the ring.” Abby sang, and I held up my left hand showing off the engagement ring that Chris gave me. Abby grabbed my hand and stared down at it. “Damn—, I guess my brother isn’t a broke nigga after all.”

“You’re lucky you’re holding my daughter in your arms.” He glanced over at her, and I chuckled. He looked away and sniffed. “I smell something burning.”

“Oh lord, the food,” Joyce ran towards the kitchen, and we were right behind her. Chris and Abby stayed back a little with the babies as I walked into the kitchen. I helped her clear everything out and turn everything off. “I’ll have to cook all over again.”

“You don’t have to—,” we looked at Chris in the doorway. “We’re going to Denny’s.”

Asia was on top of me, her hands pressed into my chest as she rode me. She tossed her head back and moaned softly. I gripped her waist and bit down on my bottom lip.

“Faster babe…” She looked down at me as she bucked her hips. I dug my head into the pillows as she rested her hands on my shoulders. She closed her eyes and cried loudly. “This it baby, f***…” I groaned as I gripped her sides tighter. I could feel her walls tightening around me, and she looked down at me.

“Baby’s it’s comin’…” She breathed heavily. “I feel it.” I pushed her all the way down on me as she dug her nails into my shoulder blades. “Ooohhh…mmmf***…” She licked her lips and brought her lips to make an ‘o’, but nothing came out as I bounced her up and down on me. I groaned when she hit my shoulder when she heard a baby’s wail from the monitor. “B-babe stop. Jr.’s crying.”

“C’mon A, I’m almost there.” I held onto her, not wanting to let go.

“I know babe—but I gotta get Jr. back to sleep.” She moved my hands from her side and got off of me. “Give me a minute.” She grabbed her robe and wrapped it around her body. “I’ll be back, promise.” She gave me a quick peck before walking out the bedroom.
