The Hood Has My Heart
The name's
{RaJean a.k.a. Ra-Ra} but only my friends and fam can call me that. I'm 16, a little on the short side and a sophmore in highskool but don't let my age or looks fool you cuz i don't go into that i'm too cute too young to fight s***, the hands are always ready. I never refer to myself as a b****. If you were to ask alot of people what they thought about gurls from the hood they would probably say they were rude, disrespectful, didn't have manners, and weren't brought up well but I was the EXACT opposite. I was a sweet, well-mannered, good gurl. I wasn't the type to get into trouble or fights but that all changed after moving to the suburbs or a.k.a. "the good life". I stayed there for three years and couldn't take it anymore. I was considered to have two left feet [meaning I didn't know how to dance], made fun of because of the way I looked and dressed but i decided it was time to change things up. I wasn't gonna be anybody's rug or cry over baby s***. I would show no sign of weakness. I upgraded the way i dressed cause my style had to be fresh. My step sister
{Briana a.k.a. Bri Bri}
taught me how to dance and get lite and she's really good at it too. She's really a nice person... goofy, laid-back, and someone i can talk to, she doesn't run her mouth. No one knows that I dance but her. My heart had become hardened, my concious wasn't as strong so if i hurt people i really didn't give a s*** & i doubted people highly. I had become mean, confident, and demanded respect. It was survival of the fittest. I knew my mom would never move back so I did everything to get kicked out of as much schools in the area as possible and she finally realized that i wouldn't give in and made arrangements for me to stay with one of her friends in the Bronx. SO NOW YOU SEE HOW MUCH I HATED THAT PLACE THAT I WOULD GO THROUGH ALL THAT JUST TO COME BACK and just b/c i was back didn't mean i was about to soften up. nah not that if anything i would toughen up more. i was back on the [bloCk] and i knew that all those years i missed i could not get back.
a/n: i didn't want to introduce all the characters all at once so i'll introduce them in the addsz. what do you guys think of it so far. boring or aRiighT?

She sucked her teeth and looked at me like i was crazy before huffing and puffing then finally yelling, "waiter!"

steph : the people behind us are throwing s*** and stuff at us and when i confronted them about it the lady was being really disrespectful. look at this stain? either move them or move me
waiter: i'm sorry it'll be handled...i hope besides this you've enjoyed your dinner
"it'll be alot better once this situation is handled and i am far away from her", steph said pointing towards me
pov: doesn't this b**** know it'sz not polite to point? talking about classy and the b**** doesn't have manners herself... that's a damn shame.
The waiter came and asked us to leave. i explained to him that the b**** was just starting s*** and whatever happened was an accident and she was apologized to. she just wanted her 10 mins. of attention. the waiter wasn't listening to s*** i had to say but whatever they can f*** off.
Chris and I left the restaurant and he kept looking at me on the way home
Ra-Ra: yes chris? why you keep looking at me like that?
he shook his head. "no reason"
Ra-Ra: well obviously it is if you looking at me like i got some s*** on my head
Chris: my badd its just...you two just can't be in the same room together, hunh?
Ra-Ra: chris you see the way she always acting and s*** then trying to come at me and thinking i won't go in on the b**** especially whenever she see me with you. she got a f***ing problem yo
chris: arite. i see you're getting tight so i'll just leave it alone for the rest of the night
" i'm not tight", i said kinda pissed off
The rest of the ride was silent. He walked me to my apartment and i was searching for the key, when i got it the set dropped. I picked it up, searching for the key once again and when i found it i tried putting it in the lock and turning it but for some reason i couldn't get the key in.
Ra-Ra: uhhh...f***!
chris: i got it
he turned the key and twisted the knob and the door opened
Ra-Ra: thank you
I walked in and quickly kicked off my shoes, put my hair up in a clip and changed in to my pjamas
"Chris!", i yelled wondering if he was still here because he hadn't come in my room.
chris: yeah?
Ra-Ra: are you hungry?
chris: nah, not really. why?
Ra-Ra: i am, i'mma go downstairs to the deli and get something to eat okaii?
chris: aiight i'llcome w. you then
We walked to the store and i got a sandwhich, chips and a soda.
Back upstairs i layed on the floor and chris joined me. I ate and offered Chris some food one more time and again he said no.
White Chicks was on tv and the part where Latrelle was on the dinner date w. one of the sisters and she...well dude was ordering all the food and stuffing his face ...talking and he farted then Latrelle farted right back. man that was nasty but s*** was funny. me and chris were laughing our asses off. damn this movie is HILARIOUS
i put some chips on the sandwhich then broke off a piece

He ate the piece i had in my hand and sucked my finger
Ra-Ra: lol. u madd dumb now stop playing around big head
i pushed his head a lil

Chris: dang i'd excuse myself to the bathroom and be out. shoo she ain't running up my bill and making me lose my appetite

chris: lol, nah i'm j/p i would probably be polite about it and try to ignore it
Ra-Ra: how the hell would you ignore that s***? now you frontin s*** if i went on date w. dude and he was doing that s*** i would tell his ass off and leave.
I turned back to my sandwhich to take another bite and noticed it wasn't there. oh hell nawh
Ra-Ra: no you didn't
chris: what?
i took a pillow off the couch and hit him w. it
Ra-Ra: fat ass i offered you some not my whole sandwhich. you ain't slick
he smiled.
Ra-ra: what you smiling for? you should be scared right now
He took the pillow and hit me w. it
"aiight now i'm scared", he said before taking off running and i ran after him. He ran into my room and jumped on the bed holding on to Bri Bri
Chris: yo Bri help me
"chris...i'm tryna sleep", she said in a tired voice
chris: help me. Ra-ra gonna whoop my ass
Briana: lol. why?
chris: ionno. bri bRi please!!!
He hugged her tight as he lay on her
Briana: okay. get off me you heavy though
They got up and charged at me w. pillows
"oh so you on his side now", i said as i felt the pillows land on me
briana: lol i just want some sleep
"aiight okaii i got you later bri bri and chris you betta sleep w. one eye open", i said in chill mood and nodding my head after they stopped.

Steph: damn hoe you're amusing too, where did you learn that at? -the circus? look like a f***ing clown w. all that f***ing make up on thinking you look cute. you're the one who looks like a dog coming to school everyday w. your hair f***ed up like you been living in the wild and tryna act all big and BADD. s*** you were probably raised in the jungle w. your loud ass mouth and disrespect people like that. shut the f*** up!
Ra-Ra: b****, please, yo just keep quiet. you're making yourself look stupid. you the one who wear some f***ing road kill on your head that you mistake for weave and okay but i got a perm w. my own hair and even if it looking a mess, b**** if you have a f***en weave lookin f***ed up w. more tracks showing than at a runners meet you should really consider your hair dresser and in your case than's not an IF, thats a DEFINITE but keep poppin yah damn mouth at me and there won't be no need to get it re-done cuz yo s*** will be f***ed up more than it is now. trust i have no problem beating your ass again and in front of these people...cuz "Ra-Ra's class" will come out ending the dinner with a show

When we got to the restaurant we sat at a booth and made orders

Chris: so how come i haven't seen yah parents yet? i mean whenever i come to your apart. i never see them.

Chris: i live w. my mom but most of the time she's working long shifts, my pops left us when i was little, and my step dad ain't around no more.

Ra-Ra: yeah fat ass. thatsz what happens when u eat a regular size meal. compared to yours mines was like a junior

He picked up a fry and tried to feed it to me

It fell on my shoulder and i watched as the ketchup sat there
I picked up a hotwing from his plate and he smiled as if he had accomplished something. He prbly thought i was going to eat it. I returned the smile and just as he turned his head down to dig back into his food i threw it at him and it hit him right in his face. His nose was covered in hotsauce
Ra-Ra: that's what u get fat ass. thats kinda cute...it looks like u got a mini tan lmao

He just nodded his head as if agreeing with me and took more of the ketchup, putting a whole bunch on his fries, then looking up smiling hard at me.

He smiled even harder

before i could finish my sentence he lunged a couple of fries covered in ketchup and a rib bone at me and i ducked. instead, it hit the person in the booth behind us. I was cracking up silently but not as much as i was about to bust out laughing when the person who got hit turned around and i saw their face...

3 weeks pasted by and it was getting closer and closer to the auditions. Chris and I had been practicing everyday, except weekends but he would make sure that i dance at parties and i was improving gradually. Dancing also aided in a chemistry between me and Chris.
It was a thursday and as usual i was chillen w. Chris when he asked, "RaJean are you busy tomorrow?"
Ra-Ra: umm besides school i'm probably chill w. u like always. y?
Chris: well i was just wondering if...if...
Ra-Ra: dude why u stuttering? just say what u gottah say.
Chris: what kinda food do you like?
Ra-Ra: i like most foods
Chris: but like what do you prefer?
Ra-Ra: chris where are you going w. this?
Chris: would you like to go to dinner w. me tomorrow nite?
Ra-Ra: are u asking me on a date?
Chris: yes... i mean if u want to go

After the convo ended i went to sleep. I wasn't really stressing tomorrow's date as of the moment. i was just chill.
As on the other hand Chris was thinking of tomorrow night. He was excited but nervous, he was still that way sometimes around Ra-Ra -but who could blame him she made alot of people nervous. This however, was a different nervous the type of nervous you get when you...well like some one =D

All through the night they was giving me thumbs up. Girlsz were grilling me and dudesz were starring. people were talking i guess because they've never seen me dance before and i usually don't be this chill. Most eyes were on us but some people were doing their thing too. Stephanie was definetley mean mugging me. The b**** crossed her hands when she saw us dancing and got the nerve to say something.
"See i told yah. he was probably just f***ing w. her and look what theii doing on the dance floor. didn't i tell ya?"
Ra-Ra: how many times do i have to tell this b**** don't be getting salty cause he do not want ur pigeon ass and i'm not a f***ing hoe like u so s*** don't be going down how u be getting down. & for tha last time keep my name out ya f***ing mouth b****-its not a d***. don't get ya ass whooped at this party too
stephanie: aiight, i'm waiting. come do it then.
Damn i was bout to jump and smack the s*** out of this bird but Chris pulled me back and moved us towards the other side of the dance floor
They played a couple more songs and i danced w. Chris to I'm Still in love w. You by Sean Paul and Sasha and Girls Dem Sugar by Beenie Man ft. Mya
After that i was kinda exhausted from dancing

Chris: you wanna go home?
Ra-Ra: nah, i'll wait till the party's over or yah wanna go
Chris: i'm good. i got to dance w. the gurl i wanted to dance with today so we can go =]
We left and Chris walked me inside the apartment. I was so tired i didn't even want to change into my pajamas but i dragged myself into the bathroom and changed. Then i threw myself onto the bed to feel Chris lying next to me
In a sleepy voice i said, "Chris get up from my bed".
Chris: u ain't want me to stay? =[
Ra-Ra: nah, i just want to sleep
Chris: aiight i'll let you sleep. i'll call u tomorrow since u mad tired
Ra-Ra: 1
Chris: if you gonna be sleeping that long i hope u dreaming about me

idk if he left that moment or waited for a while but the fatigue hit me hard and my eyes closed. yupp i would definetley be able to get a good sleep tonight

He got infront of me and started popping on me and trynah get me to grind on him. lmao, this boy is something else. It had been 5 mins. or more Chris still determine to get me dance. I started dancing back on Chris and heard "get it Ra-Ra" and "i see you gurl" from Lisa, Shyree, and Jasmine .
After a couple minutes the song switched to Nina Sky's "Move your body" Chris moved behind me. i was a little stiff but he rested his hands on my waist (sp?) and started dancing on me and w. that little whisper thing he be doing said, " don't worry boo just dance to the beat". i started grinding back on him and winding, i felt our bodies close. damn this boy could dance-i was starting to sweat bullets up in here. s*** it was hot!

Briana and Bow, Shyree + Fizz, Lisa + TIP, and Jasmine and Soulja were dancing. Then Bri and Chris started doing what they do-get lite.
I was just chillen when i spotted stephanie come in
She looked around and saw me; still rolling her eyes.
damn i guess some people don't learn their lesson the first time.

Whatever. i looked in my purse find myself my own soda; yeah i ain't drinking no spiked s***. i don't get down w. the alcohol ain't haven't me f***ing tipsy

"where did you get the necklace from?", BriBri asked and Shyree butted in being the nosey one. "what necklace? lemme see"
Shyree: oO. that ain't no regular necklace that's a promise ring and it looks hella real. dude is serious. who gave you that?
All eyes were on me. I stared at Chris and he gave me a comforting smile.

RaJean's Pov: I sat on the floor eating mac n' cheese and starring at the tv screen when the door rang.

i nodded as i took another spoonful

After i was done i got up and put my bowl in the sink. I drained it in water, setting it to be washed later.

I opened them to see {this ring} decorated by a gold surrounding and the hearts were a pink, timid red color held by a golden chain.
Ra-Ra: what's this for?
He looked me in the eye
Chris: this right here is my promise ring. i know i haven't known you for a long time but i want to know you more and i want to be there for you. we've had arguments but that happens in friendships and being that we're getting over it proves that this can be a strong one. i don't know much about your past relationships but i see the hurt left by dude and i don't want you to hurt no more. i care about you Rajean, i really do and i hope that you're beginning to see it. You're a beautiful, strong minded girl that's not afraid to speak your mind and well i'm speaking mine right here. if you let me with this promise ring i promise to be there for you when you need me there, i promise to protect you, and i promise not to hurt you or betray your trust. i don't know if what i'm saying makes sense but this is how i truely feel so ummm what i'm tryna say is will you accept this promise ring from me- and allow me to be your bestfriend, the one you can confide in?
I looked at him w. the hardest face i think i've ever given him as i searched his facial expression but most importantly his eyes to see if he was lying, to see if he had any doubt or if he was tryna play games. All i saw was seriousness and all that he had just said seemed heartfelt. I thought about how he came everyday this week to see me, all he had done for me since i first met him, and the tone of his voice.
"yes", i replied in a softened tone and my eyes a little more relaxed. "Yes, i accept your promise ring and allow you to be my best friend. idk if i'll open up to you or how soon i might but i'll give it a try"
he smiled. i gave him a big kiss on his cheek and then focused my eyes back to his "but damn if you break this f***en promise..."
-Water filled my eyes as i clenched my fists not finishing my sentence, just shaking my head.
Chris: i'm not trying to hurt you and i'll do my best not to but you got to trust me though"
he wrapped his arms around me as he hugged me and kissed me back on my cheek...i relaxed. i think i was slowly breaking out of my shell.
