My name is Elexa Nosonchuk, I know this is a long-shot, but I'm trying every avenue I can to ask for help in saving the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, VA. I am 20-years-old, and the only reason I am alive today is because of this hospital. I have a rare lung disease called Bronchiolitis Obliterans. This hospital has saved my life at times when other hospitals, which are not as proficient in treating childhood diseases, would have failed. I am very proud to say that my mom has been an employee of the hospital for over 20 years. If it closes, she loses everything. I turn 21 on February 15th, and I am asking for one birthday present before I go for my lung transplant evaluation. PLEASE help me save CHKD.
CHKD is the Commonwealth’s only free-standing hospital dedicated exclusively to children. CHKD is the regional pediatric referral center for all of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. A new bill that is being considered in VA would take away Medicaid benefits from various parts of the state. However, what most people don't realize is that CHKD has over 50% Medicaid dependent patients. If this bill is passed and CHKD does not find a way to supplement the income, the hospital will be forced to close.
I honestly don't know who actually reads this, but I am hoping for a miracle. I am hoping that someone reads this and can help me! Make this the best birthday ever, just by helping me keep a good thing going.
