I'm a fan because Chris gives his all. He goes out there on the stage, on the dance floor, on the movie set or whatever and puts his all into it.
At the Grammy's in '07 he lost the Best New Artist award to Carrie Underwood. After the award was given he gave the performance of a lifetime [all the while with a sprained ankle] and did it all with a smile.
He said, "I wanted to show them what they were missing and make them WISH they woulda picked me. I wanted to show them I really was the best."
Giving && doing your best, to me, means giving 200% all the time. 100% is you giving your best, the other 100% is sharing your best with others and helping them reach their best. To do your best means helping others be the best.
That's something I live by everyday in all I do. If it's not my best, then it's not good enough. I see Chris out there pushing it out, working hard and learning all the way and it inspires me to be just that way.
I'm telling you right now, I am GOING to be a star. You will see me right up there on the Grammy's singing my song and executing each dance move perfectly. Looking up to people like Aaliyah [R.I.P.] for my main inspiration, Michael Jackson for my history and also a heavy inspiration and Chris Brown, a guy who's not that much different from me, I can't fail. We come from a small towns, have many talents but are humble and give it up to God. He worked through the wire to get where he's at and everything he does is an example and precedent for what I am going to do.
Chris inspires me and motivates me to work hard. You can't just be born good, you have to work at it. I wasn't born talented in anyway. I wanted it bad enough and I set my mind to do it the best I can.
Like my teachers in Kung-Fu would always say when it got tough and I wanted to sit down, walk away and quit, they would grab my face cage, pull me close and say,
"You gotta push yourself."
If you never push yourself, you never get anywhere. I see Chris and he makes me wanna push harder and harder for what I want.
I wanna sing like him. Hit the high and strong notes.
I wanna dance like him. Improvise for hours and come up with something new each time.
I wanna be the one they look at and say "That's the ONE," EVERYWHERE.
Being a varsity cheerleader in my sophomore year has showed me, and everyone else, what my best really is. I've never received more compliments and praise on my efforts in all 3 seasons I've cheered combined.
I pulled my hamstring in January. It hurts like hell but when I get out there and see the crowd cheering and screaming, the pain disappears and I forget about everything.
When Chris sprained his ankle, his doctor didn't want him to perform. That didn't stop him. He said, "I'm DOING the Grammy's." and went out there and gave us a phenomenal show BECAUSE he loves what he does, he does it for us and most importantly he does it for him! He enjoys this, he loves this. He does it because he WANTS to. Showing the world that he is the best and he's doing the best he can.
Everytime, whether his vocal cords are bruised or his ankle is sprained, he never ceases to amaze me, and that's why I'm a fan of Christopher Maurice Brown.
