"What's that?" My little brother pointed up at the door of our apartment. I looked up from my purse, in which the key was hiding in.
"What's wha.. what?!" I dropped my purse, as I felt my heart at my throat.
"What is it?!" My little sister joined in.
"It's .. it's .. an eviction notice."

"Why??" I remember asking my mom as she stood in the doorway of my bedroom. I could feel the tears stinging my eyes already.
"Because .." she began, "your aunt is being nice enough to let us stay with her, since we .. you know .. don't have anywhere else."
"Can't we get an apartment somewhere else or something?! This is my last year in school, you're not seriously gonna make me switch now, are you?" I said, hoping she'd smile that warm smile of hers, and tell me of coarse not.
"I'm sorry, baby. It's out of my hands. I wish we could stay here, but baby we don't have the money." She said, I could hear a bit of a crack in her voice.
I looked away, for I didn't want her to see me cry. My home of seventeen years. Seventeen long, wonderful years .. and I was leaving at the peak of it all.
I didn't want to argue with her, because I knew it was hard on my mom already. I simply looked down at the floor, and asked "when?"
"Three days." Was all she replied.

Virginia? Out of all the places, Virginia? My aunt couldn't have picked a better place to live. Couldn't she of lived in, oh I don't know, Texas or something? Come on now, as if it wasn't hard enough that I was moving, we were moving all the way to the other side of the damn country. My mom tried to cheer me and my little brother and sister up by telling us that around Christmas time it snowed. At this point, I was like, who the hell cares if it snows? I'm leaving California, the one place I said I wouldn't leave.
I would be leaving everything I ever knew. My friends, school, not to mention my boyfriend. He pretty much exploded when I told him the big news. I knew a long-distance relationship wouldn't work for me, so we agreed on being friends, and if and when I came back, we'd get back together again.
The day we left, was full of big bear hugs, kisses, and many, many tears. My friends and boyfriend were all there to watch us make the big departure from our .. the apartment. I stood on my tip-toes and looked up at Jay, my boyfriend. I was somewhat on the small side, being 5'4 and my boyfriend being 6'3. He picked me up and gave me a big hug and kiss. A kiss as to which tasted salty from all the tears.
I hugged each and every one of my friends, turned around, and began walking to the taxi which would take us to the airport. Just as I was about to get into the taxi, I turned around, dropped my bags, and ran back to Jay. I hugged him tightly, and looked up for one last kiss. He gave me what I thought was the sweetest kiss ever, and simply said "I love you."
Tears streaming down my face, I simply looked at him, and replied "I love you, too."
