This is just a taste...

bump AND REVIEW (tell me what you liked)

if you want more.

I wont write more unless you bump and review.

It had been a good two months since my accident. A lot has happened since my first day in the hospital. HE continued to visit me on a regular basis. When he wasn’t able to do so he made sure that he called. He’s been my rock through this these trying times; and I’m not solely referring to my accident but also through everything I’ve been through with my mother before and after we first started going out. He’s an incredibly understanding person. My body is healing better and faster than I believed it would. The nurse that I had grown fond of during my time spent here had entered my room and started gathering and packing up my things. “You know that you don’t have to do that, right” I said in a low voice with c**ked eyebrows. “Aida don’t start with me” she said while placing both hands on her hips. Her German accent was its strongest when she was agitated, frustrated, or flat out pissed. She took extra special care of me, more than she had to.

“I’m just saying, you’ve done enough for me already,” I said closing my eyes, trying my best to keep my composure.
“What’s wrong sweetie,” Helga asked attempting to voice her concern.
“Nothing, I’m fine,” I said nodding my head reassuringly.

Once Helga started to walk away from me I got that feeling deep within the pit of my stomach. You know, that feeling you get when you tell a lie you didn’t really want to tell. So I thought about it in that brief second and decided to recant what I had told her.
“Wait, I lied,” I said examining the lines in the palm of my hands.
The squeaking of her shoes was the result of her doing a 180 (a turn). As she stood there; silence quickly filled the room. I figured that she was looking at me but I was scared to look up to confirm my suspicions. I had more respect for this woman than any other adult figure that I have encountered throughout my life.
“Why would you feel like you had to lie when you know that you can tell me anything,”
she asked as she walked over and wrapped her arms around me.
“I know, lying is senseless but what bother me is that you didn’t know me but you cared for me. You’re selfless and you don’t expect anything in return. Why,” I asked seriously confused.
“Well first off it’s my job. It’s what I’ve been doing my whole life,”
I shook my head the whole time she was speaking. “I don’t know anything else,” Helga stated.
“No, people have jobs but they don’t take them seriously. They don’t love what they do; it’s just a check to them. You’re different; you love what you do even though you aren’t rewarded for it,” I said waiting for her response.
“Well, you’re right about one thing. I do love what I do,” she said smiling brightly as though she was auditioning for crest commercial. After immediately noticing this I started to laugh.
“Aida, are you laughing at my accent again,” she exclaimed hitting me gently with one of my pillows.
“No, I’m use to your accent. I was admiring your smile, I never noticed how pretty it was,” I said returning a smile to show her that she had me feeling much better.
“Well, in that case; thank you. If I may say so, you have a lovely smile as well,” she said while adjusting her glasses.
“Thanks,” I replied.
I happened to glance up at the door right as it was opening and in walked a familiar face. He had papers in one hand and a bag filled with prescription drugs in the other.
“Hey, stranger,” he said while walking towards us...

“I actually do.”

“Oh thank God. Have you talked to her yet?”

“No.”

“I’ve had this number for weeks. I was too afraid to call.”

“Well you did f*** up.”

“Yeah I did.”

“f***ed up big time.” I pointed out, rubbing it in—not like he didn’t deserve it.

“Yeah.” He retorted. “Thank you for helping me come to that conclusion.”

“No problem, that’s what I’m here for.” I said sarcastically.

“Unfortunately.” He jeered. “But on a serious note, whatever you find out from Asia. If you find out anything more from her, be careful. You’re no Sherlock Holmes, and this is real life—real death.”

“Let’s put it like this.” I paused just long enough to clear my throat. “I promise you I won’t do anything you wouldn’t do.”

“That makes me feel a whole hell of a lot better.” He shook his head as sipped his icy cold lemonade.

“That’s nice to hear.”

“I have one more thing to tell you.”

“What is it now?”

“Your mom is actually sorry, and she missed you while you were gone. She just didn’t have the courage to show you. She regretted everything that she ever did to harm you or Asia. She was very relieved when Asia was taken away from her.”

“I’ll believe that s*** when I hear it from the horses’ mouth.” I Ran my finger around the brim of my cup. “Who is Asia actually with?”

“Your father.”

“Why him?”

“Next of kin.”

“I know that but I just don’t get it. He left us, I’m pretty sure he wasn’t jumping for joy when she arrived at his door step.”

“You never know, think of everything that’s happened to you as a renewal. A second chance, like that old saying goes out with the old and in with the new.”

Renewal? This was the worst f***in’ renewal I’ve ever experienced. I thought this cleansing, rebirthing type s*** was supposed to be peaceful.

Part III| Chapter 37| Revelations

“So my father willing gives MY mother 2 million dollars? She f***s up everything.” I declared with no remorse. “I wouldn’t give that woman a piece of my own s***.”

“Actually she hasn’t even spent the money yet, according to her.”

“So my mother the materialistic addict, alkie, bi-polar mother from hell hasn’t dipped into 2 million dollars yet?” I laughed. “That’s really hard to believe.”

“She seemed really sincere at the time; I would have to say I believe her.”

“Where is the money now?”

“No one knows expect for her of course.”

“Well I gotta find out.”

“Don’t tell me you’re actually thinking about finding the money?”

“Maybe, Maybe not” I bit my lip intently thinking about all of the good I could use that money for. If it was one person who didn’t deserve that money, it would be her. “One thing is for sure though; there’s more behind this money than we think. I can feel it.”

“Whatever the case be careful, remember she did tell her man at the time. And she was drunk, no telling how many people she told.”

“That’s very true, but I don’t care.” I played with the edge of the napkin that was sprawled out on top of the smooth table. “What’s this guys name anyway?”

“Demetrius Sullivan. I don’t care if you’ve never met the nigga in your life. When you see him, you’ll know it’s him.”

His words resonated in the back of my mind. Growing up I was never use to just one man, there were always many. As wrong as my mother was for bringing men around her children I was the fortunate one—we were the fortunate ones. Not once did they ever touch us, but the thought alone use to scare the living s*** out of me.

“Anything I should know about him?”

“I only met him once, I definitely didn’t like him.” He made clear. “All I can tell you is that he’s not a good guy.”

“Ok.” I said, paying little to no mind to his last comment. “Last but not least, I need to get in contact with Asia I need to know if you have a number where I can reach her at”

“Please, make up your mind Aida.” Frustrated he ran his head over his short waves. “Do you want to hear or not?”

I paused briefly and took in a long deep breath, letting it out slowly.

“Ok, I wanna know.”

“Where do I start?” I could tell he was thinking out loud since his eyes were glued to the table rather than me. “For starters, your mom isn’t who you think she is.”

“Hold the f*** up.” I scrunched my lips together in an effort not to get too loud. “Are you trying to say my mother isn’t actually my mother?”

“No!” he clamored. “Not at all, I’m just trying to say that she’s not who you thought she was.”

“What about her?”

“She’s into some stuff.”

“What kind of stuff?” My heart began to pulsate; and my breathing was now slow and easy.

“She dabbled. Some things were big and some things were little.”

“What exactly did she dabble in?” I was already starting to get tired of how he was beating around the bush.

“She was a functioning addict, I don’t know if she was using before your accident but she definitely started using after.”

I couldn’t help but laugh.

“What’s so funny?” he sat up in his seat and leaned forward, the scent of his light cologne wafted itself in my direction and I inhaled deeply, secretly wanting him.

“Functioning? She was never functioning to begin with but whatever.”

“Well she was only considered functioning because she acted well, like everything was ok. She hid it very well.”

“Is that all?” This was it? This was all he had to tell me?

“No. She drank a lot too.”

“Well I knew that she drank every once in awhile, I never saw her drink heavily.”

“Well she did.”

“Ok is that it, because I was really looking for some valuable info. I didn’t come here to find out my mom was a crack whore, the s*** isn’t even that shocking.”

“You want valuable? Aida, little do you know…your choices of words are very interesting.”

“Spit it out.” I ordered, sitting up straight I focused all attention on him.

“One night your mother got really wasted, more so drunk than anything. I overheard her tell her dude that she had come into some money along time ago. 2 million dollars.”

“2 million dollars?!” I squealed, completely oblivious to the fact that I was bringing attention to myself. “How in the hell could she possibly get her hands on 2 million dollars?”

“Your father.”

“My father? My bastard of a father was never rich.”

“Oh on the contrary. He wasn’t rich until about 2 years ago.”

“Are you kidding me?”

“I wish I was.”

Part I| Chapter 37|Revelations
--

Observing the room vigilantly, I scrutinized every little detail of every little thing—right down to the number of eyelashes that neatly grew out of his upper lids. 843. If I wasn’t mistaken. I sat quietly, bouncing my leg which caused the cup of cold thai tea I had in my hand to lightly vibrate. We were in a tiny Vietnamese restaurant, I myself have never stepped foot in the place, let alone knew that it existed. Exotic scents floated about the air, causing my nose to tingle.

“Would you like more tea?” Ripping me away from my thoughts, the petite Vietnamese woman raised her glass pitcher awaiting an answer.

“I’m fine” I answered. “No thank you.” Giving her a quick nod, I watched as she kindly smiled before walking away.

“Are you ok?” he questioned.

“Yeah, why do you ask?”

“You just seem tense—on edge.” He cut his steak into small pieces with steady hands.

“It’s my meds.” I relentlessly tapped my finger on the jagged edge of the thick wooden table. “It can do that sometimes.”

“Oh I’m sorry.” He sympathized. “I didn’t mean to get too personal.”

“Don’t be, you didn’t know.” I swirled the shiny silver teaspoon in my cup of tea as a moment of awkward silence filled our wake.

“So what’s new?” he stabbed a small piece of steak off of his plate and carelessly shoved it in his mouth.

“Can we just please get to the reason why we came here in the first place?”

“If that’s what you want.” He proposed. “I was just trying to make conversation before I just started droppin’ s*** on you.”

“s*** like what?”

“You know what?” he exclaimed hastily getting up from the table “This was a really, really bad idea. I’m just gonna go.”

“Donald don’t.” I immediately grabbed his hand stopping him from walking pass me. They were brawny yet soft, I was caught so off guard that I lost my train of thought.

“You can’t do this, why bring me all this way to just leave me with nothing?”

“Because I didn’t think I would be the one to have to tell you.” His voice suddenly rose mid-sentence, realizing this he calmed himself and the rest of his words dramatically trailed off. “Me out of all people.”

“I don’t care anymore, just tell me please.”

“Fine.” Donald returned to his seat, slouching down as far as he could without loosing comfort. “Just remember that you wanted to know.”

I took a deep breath and thought for a second. Did I really want to know? What if everything I wanted to know wasn’t what I wanted to hear?

“Well first off—”

“Wait!” I screamed as everyone in the small eatery looked over at our table, trying to determine what the ruckus was. “I’m not sure I want to know.”

Chapter 36| Hint Of Attraction
--

I waited outside of the small decrepit continuation school. 7:40am. Anxiety took over, my vision blurred as the adrenaline kicked in—fight or flight. I didn’t want to tire myself out by being worked up, so I tried thinking of things that could possibly calm me down. I wondered if my coming here was necessary, if he even knew anything at all. If he could be of any assistance. I began to second guess my actions. After all, this was Donald. He wasn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. Who’s to say he would pick up on anything remotely suspicious or out of the ordinary? I for one didn’t think he had that type of brain power, despite how little effort one needed to come to such a conclusion.

The crisp morning air blew through the tall dark trees causing them to rustle. While the deafening wind sucked at my hair, wrapping it around my face. I moved the stray strands behind my ear with tip the of my finger. Leaning up against the cold rusty fence I scanned the area. No Donald in sight. Folding my arms for the sake of sustaining warmth, I watched teen’s jet pass me as the late bell rang. ‘s***’ I heard some say as they hastily made their way inside of the small building. My back began to ache and my leg lost all feeling so I changed my positioning, shifting all my weight over to my left leg. Bored. I ran my finger up and down the fence hoping time would pass by rapidly. I glanced down at the ground noticing a shadow cast along side me which wasn’t caused by my person.

“Yeah it’s me.”

Turning around quickly almost losing the grip my black converse had on the ground, I stumbled. Thrown by his timing and unusually happy that the wait was over, I just stared—trying desperately to quickly gather my thoughts.

“You ok?” he asked, shooting me a sincere smile.

“I’m fine.” I said still slightly entranced. He was handsome, much taller and trim.

“Wow.” He took a step back and shook his head. “I can’t believe I’m looking at Aida.”

“Thought I’d be dead huh?”

“Not at all.” He said, obviously distracted. “I mean, I heard about the accident but I’m just surprised at how good you look.”

“Surprised?” Although I was too ashamed to admit it, I was insulted. “Wow, you just have charm pouring out your ass, huh?”

“No I’m serious.” His gaze was enticing, he wasn’t looking at me or even through me. He was undressing me with his eyes. “I know I use to get on you about your looks sometimes but I’m a 17 year old teenage boy. It’s to be expected.” He said licking his I-can’t-believe-I’m-just-now-noticing-full lips.

“17?” I asked. “Since when?”

“Since last month. Why you interested now?” He laughed, failing at an attempt to reach for my hand due to my quick reflexes.

“Ok, I’m so sorry to interrupt your little drooling session but I have some s*** I need to ask you.”

“You really haven’t changed, have you?”

“Last time I checked, but let’s cut to the chase.” I took a deep breath and sighed. “Where’s my f***in sister?”

“Damn, can I at least get a ‘where’s my f***in sister please?’”

“Where’s my f***in sister please.”

“You’re so cute when you’re mad.”

“Look, I obviously don’t have time to d*** around with you today so if you’re not gonna provide me with the info I need then I’ll just peace out.” Frustrated I walked away, I had gotten half way down the block and noticed that he hadn’t tried to stop me—so I stopped myself. “Don’t do this.” I hung my weary head, with my back still facing him. “I really need answers.”

“Don’t do what?” he asked, I always hated when guys played dumb. “You walked away, Aida everyone you meet isn’t gonna run after you.”

He sounded so much like Chris and for a moment I wished he was.

“Please!” I shouted, throwing my head back. By this time I would have been curled up in a ball in the middle of the sidewalk, but I was tired of crying.

“Fine.” I could hear him walking up behind me. “Let’s go.” He gently grabbed my arm forcing me to walk at his same pace.

“Where are we going?”

“Does it matter?” His stride was smooth, and strangely enough I didn’t mind him holding onto me. “I know you didn’t think I was gonna sit out here and talk to you in this cold ass weather.”

“It’s cool, some men can’t handle this type of weather. Therefore it’s completely understandable.”

“You’re lucky I respect you enough not to call you out of your name.”

“And you’re lucky you’re not dumb enough to do so.”

“Touché”

“Touché” I smiled.
