Everything I was doing was against the rules. Everything I was doing was hurting her. Everything I was doing had me falling in love with her and nothing was going to stop my heart from dancing to her song.

Chris was at his desk grading papers while I was on the phone with his mother writing down some recipes. "Mm hm," I nodded in agreement smiling. "Up here craving for some damn cheesecake and he don't want no store bought type of cheesecake! He's got to have his <em>momma's</em> cheesecake!" I tilt my head to the side, smiling as I said it loud enough for him to hear me.

Joyce giggled before saying "I'd send em if I could, but they'd get sour. And I tried suggesting that I'd freeze em, but he said that'd take even longer to wait."

"Well, he don't have to wait anymore." I glanced over my shoulder while Chris slowly walked into the kitchen eyeing me. He made me laugh. "Don't be looking at me like that you big baby."

Chris walked up to the fridge not saying a word. He grabs a water bottle and leaves back out. "Lord Jesus, tell that child he better not be mean mugging my baby!"

"Thanks for giving me the recipe, Joyce."

"No problem."

"Alright. Let me get off this phone with you before he gets even more mad for me stealing his momma."

"Girl you ain't stole nothing but a piece of my heart. He still got the rest of it."

"Eh, you tell him that."

Joyce laughs. "Okay. Bye Sofie."

"Bye momma," I smiled and hung up. Sighing hard, i close my new recipe notebook and make my way to Chris' office. I try to open the door, but it's locked. "Chris, open the damn door."

"No," he says.

"Chris, I'm not in the mood right now."

"Say it nicely and I'll open the door."

"That was as nice as I was gonna get!"

"Well then that's as close as you gonna get!"

"Boy," I inhale, biting my bottom lip as I step away from the door with my hands placed on my hips. "...Okay." Walking to the bedroom, I grab my night clothes and go into the bathroom locking the door and immediately turning on the shower water.

"HEY!" Chris shouted, coming to bang on the door. "What the f*** are you doing?"

"Taking a shower," I smiled, "what it sound like?!"

"Not without me you're not! Open this muthaf***in' door!"

"Sorry, I can't do that!" I laughed more as I stepped into the shower and sliding the door shut. "See if you had opened the office door, you wouldn't be where you're at! Better luck next time, Mr. Brown!"

"Wait til yo ass get out here, Sofia Margueritte!"

"Wellll, that'll be around ten o'clock!" I decided. It was 9:45 now. Him waiting for that long was an eternity.

"That's in 15 goddamn minutes!" He realized. "Sofia..."

"Okay," He laughs, pacing back and forth in front of the door. I knew he was pissed now. "Alright..."

A half-smile ran across my face. I knew I was about to get it BAD. And what's better than to see your man mad AND sexy and then make love on top of that? Nothing!

I hopped out the shower ten minutes in and after washing my hair. Then I put lotion on, my night clothes, and finally blow dried my hair out and throwing it into a pony tail.

The clock on the wall was just making it to ten. I opened the door and there he stood leaning against the door frame with his hands folded over his chest. He had the meanest look on his face I had ever seen.

"Damn, what's wrong with you?" I questioned as I walked out not giving him a second look.

And the minute I stepped out, he grabbed me from behind wrapping his arms tightly around my torso. "Don't worry, you'll see." He says in a stern tone while guiding me to the bed. My body was all under his control and wasn't sht I could do about it.

Oh geez, RUN IT!

"I have something to tell you." I placed my chin on Mike's bare chest.

My brother went out and I couldn't stand being in the house alone so I got in my car. I wound up on his doorstep, ringing his bell, falling into his arms, and kissing his lips. That led us to the bed and well, you know. And now I'm here, wrapped in my lover's arms, scared of what might happen after I told him this important news.

He kissed my forehead, "What's up baby?"

"How much do you love me?" I asked, stalling.

He smirked, "I love you a lot baby. But I thought you had something to tell me."

"I do, I'm just....I'm just having a hard time with the right words to say." I looked in his eyes,

"Just say it."

"It's not that easy." I sat up now, with my knees to my chest as I covered my face.

He rose up, put his arm around my waist, and kissed my shoulder ever so delicately. He moved my hair behind my ear, "You can tell me anything baby." He placed a kiss on my neck.

"I'm pregnant." I mumbled against my hands.

He removed my hands, "What did you say?"

"I'm pregnant." I looked a him with tears threatening to stain my face at any moment.

The color drained from his face and he just sat there, looking at me. It was quiet for a while until he finally spoke, "What uhhh what do you mean?"

"I didn't know that '<em>I'm pregnant</em>' could have more than one meaning." I wiped a stray tear.

He shook his head, "No, I mean how? I thought we were care--- when you didn't want to use condoms." He rubbed his temples and sighed.

"Don't worry, I'm gonna get rid of it. I just wanted to let you know." I got up, holding the sheets around my naked body.

He looked at me from the bed, "What? No you're not. Don't you think I have a say in this?"

"I don't really care what you have to say about it. It's my body and my life and I'm not ready for a baby." I went in the bathroom to start the shower.

He appeared in the doorway, "Gi, you can't get rid of it."

"I've already decided Michael." I turned to face him.

His face screwed, "Then why even fckn tell me?"

"Don't curse at me." I stated getting in the shower.

He snatched the curtain back, "Don't tell me not to fckn curse at you. You tell me that you're pregnant and then that you're gonna get rid of it? You can't love me as much as I love you if you're even thinking about doin that."

"I'm not ready. Can't you respect that?" Tears fell freely now.

He shook his head, "I could respect that you're being selfish. Don't do this baby, please."

"Why do you care so much? Any other guy would be ecstatic that I didn't wanna keep it." I looked at his sad face.

"Well, I'm not any other guy. And because..." He trailed off.

"Because what?"

He sat on the closed toilet seat, "Because, my mom almost aborted me. She felt that she wasn't ready and wanted to live her life the way she wanted. And my dad wasn't there to support her."

"So what stopped her?" I stepped out of the shower, wrapping a towel around me.

He smiled up at me and pulled me to him, "My grandmother. And you have me baby. I'm gonna be here every step of the way. If anyone could have my baby I'm glad that it's you. Don't get rid of it baby, please." He moved the towel and kissed my stomach.

"Okay." I couldn't hold the tears in and he couldn't either.

He pulled me down to him and kissed my lips, "I love you so much baby."

"I love you too." I kissed him back.

I watched her sleep. She was so peaceful and I was so happy. I pushed some hair behind her ear and she stirred a little. I couldn't believe she was having my baby. This was the most exciting news I've ever had.

I could barely sleep, I was too excited. I wanted the baby to be here already. 9 months was too long to wait for this beautiful blessing. I wonder what it was, a boy or girl. I don't even care, just the fact that it would be mine would be enough. I wonder what kind of dad I would be. I couldn't stop staring at her beautiful face. This beauty was gonna give me my first born. And my next after that if I had anything to say about it.

"Stop staring at me." She commanded with her eyes still closed.

I smiled, "How'd you know?"

"Because you're a creep like that." She laughed as she opened her eyes.

I laughed loudly, "Oh really? I just didn't know!"

"Why you so loud though? Bring it down some, I'm right here boo." She finally opened her eyes and her emerald eyes were piercing me.

I softly caressed her face and then kissed her slowly and softly, "I am absolutely in love with you."

"And I am doubtlessly in love with you." She kissed me again, "Now go to sleep. You're gonna meet my brother tomorrow."

She turned over and I wrapped my arms around her. Normally I could easily fall asleep like this, with her in my arms. But not now, not since she just told me I was to meet her brother tomorrow and not in 2 months like previously planned.

"Babe, I have to tell you something." I spoke.

She sighed, "Tell me in the morning love. I'm sure it'll be just as important then as it is now."

"Okay, first thing in the morning." I squeezed her a little tighter.

She laced her right hand in mine, "Okay, now goodnight."

"Goodnight." I sighed and tried to sleep.

<strong>Professor Brown</strong>

I waited down in the car for Sofia as she had gone up to say hello to Gigi's brother and get some other things. While I waited in my car, I could have sworn I saw Tremaine perched around a corner of the building. Without hesitation, I get out of my car and go it out, but nobody was there but a bunch of students coming from the back car lot. So I went back to my car and sat there, now swearing that I had seen him. Maybe I was just hallucinating.

"Alright," Sofia says as she steps into the passenger seat, pulling me out of my thoughts. "Let's go!"

Chewing on my lip, I start the engine and pull off as we both put on our seat belts. "What are we doing tonight," I asked. "Staying in?"

"Um..." Sofia sighs, "Yes. I don't really feel like going out tonight."

"Okay, that's fine with me. What are we gonna do? Movie night, what?"

"Movie night sounds great," she glances at me while searching through her purse for her phone. "Sht, did I leave my-"

I immediately stop the car before pulling out into the street to look at Sofia. "What?"

"Here it is," Sofia says, grabbing her phone and taking it out. "Found my phone. Thought I left it upstairs. Sorry," she smiles innocently at me.

"It's okay, babe." I look ahead of me only to focus in on a guy passing by with a hood on. The glimpse of his face that was only a few seconds...I was sure that it was him. But I didn't want to seem crazy and ask Sofia anything about the guy. However, it was irritating me and I wanted to be truthful. After pulling into traffic and making our way down the street, I glance over my shoulder to look at the guy's face, but his head was down while looking at cell phone. Smart muthafcka. Damn. Staring back at the road, I try to think about what I should say.

"That..." Sofia says, letting her words fade as she just got through looking over her shoulder. "Never mind."

"What, did you see somebody?"

"Yea," she nods. "It's kind of crazy because I don't want to believe that it was him, but I'm for sure that it was him. I saw his face."

"Who was it?"

"Trey," she admits, staring down at her phone as her notification alert went off.

"I'm not gonna lie," I speak up, "I thought I saw him when I was sitting in the car."

When there was no response and I was coming to a stop behind a few cars that were at a red light, I glanced over at Sofia who covered her mouth with a hand as she stared down at her phone.

"Are you okay," I questioned her.

"Don't be mad at me," Sofia quickly looks over to me. "But earlier...when we were in Subway and Shad was there... It wasn't because he was just there to get something to eat," she confessed. "He was there because he was protecting me against Trey."

"What? Why the fck-" I sighed and gripped the wheel, trying to stay calm. "What happened? Just tell me, please before I turn this car around and head right over to his place to fck him up."

"I was walking to subway alone because you had to stay behind for class and as I was walking he popped up next to me."

"Did he touch you?"

"He tried to grab my hand to look at my ring, but I snatched away and kept on walking and told him to leave me alone from a distance. So then I turned away for good, but he came up on me from behind and gripped my arm-"

"Did he threaten you?"

"No. He didn't. I don't have any bruises. He-"

"Why didn't you tell me earlier, baby?!"

"Because! I didn't want you to get angry in school and go find him!"

"Still though, you should have said something to report him!"

"It wasn't on school, baby I just wasn't thinking. I'm sorry. I apologize for not telling you earlier."

"Don't be sorry. But we could have called the police or done something." My jaws clenched tight as I was now pissed the hell off. "...I'm not mad at you. I just...I'm angry that he's still coming around trying to take you back and stalking your place. This sht... Baby, the man can't let go and that scares me because what if you're here at the apartment alone or something and they just let his ass up or just...some sht happens when Gigi, Mike, or I'm not around!"

"I can tell the security guards not to let him in."

"What time is it," I ask, sucking my teeth.

"It's almost 10 at night, baby. Why?"

"Because I really want to go to the police so we can file a restraining order against Trey before this gets out of hand. Now what did he text you that made you not answer me back?"

"It's not a text," she stares at me. "...It's a message that he wrote to me on Facebook."

"Read it to me," I demand.

"<em>I know that you love me more than you say and more than you believe. You just don't see it, yet. We can have more than what we had. Our love can grow. You can still be mine and we can be together. Don't be scared that the past we made could ruin our future because it won't. We'll move on from that and be successful in our relationship. And don't let him blind you, baby. With money and cars and the luxury life. That expensive bullsht. He's playing you. He doesn't love you. He can't love you like I love you. We have a chemistry. We have a bond. Please, don't be a fool for him. It'll only hurt you more by keeping your heart from a true, real love. My love. Get away from him, I'm begging you. He's not good for you. And if you can't see, then I'll show you, baby. I will. I'll protect you from that man who's obviously controlling you. I'm saying this from the bottom of my heart, I swear. Don't push me away. I love you, Sofia.</em>"

By the time Sofia was finished with the message, she was in tears. "Why are you crying," I ask.

"Because," she says in a raspy voice. "He's crazy! He...he...this sht that he wrote, it's scaring me right now. What if he's tailing us? What if he finds out where you live and-"

"Baby, calm down." I sigh, taking my hand off the wheel and reaching over to grab her hand. "We're going to the police station right now, okay?"

"And what's that gonna do?"

"So that we can file for an Order of Protection," I say as calmly as possible. "Don't worry. Baby, I will keep you safe so please stop crying."

Sofia wipes her tears and then folds her lips in as she stares out the window in a different zone. My baby was not about to be scared of this man and we weren't going to be paranoid wondering about what this muthafcka was gonna do next. This was not about to happen when my life was just getting back on track with happiness.

We make it to the police station and hoped that they could do something and quick.

Awwwwwww, RUN IT!

I had stayed home today. I wasn’t feeling much up to anything but going to the bathroom periodically to throw up my life in the toilet. I have no idea why they called it morning sickness. More like all day sickness. It had been a week since Sofia took me to the doctor and the news was confirmed. I had been two weeks and now going on my third. I still haven’t told Michael. He just thinks I'm sick with a stomach flu.

When Sofia was done with her classes, she called to check up on me. I told her I’d be okay and to tell Chris hello for me. She said she’d stop by to get some clothes and to see if I was okay before she spent the night with him. I said okay and ended the call only to feel nauseous once more. I ran to the bathroom and stuck my head in the already open toilet. How I could throw up so much was beyond me. Who knew I still had anything to throw up?

After wards, I cleaned myself up and pulled out my MacBook Pro. I googled how to calm morning sickness and got some pretty good remedies. It was mainly all about balance. But the main thing on my mind now, was to tell Mike. I still wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep it or not. If it was already this much trouble then Lord knows what I’d go through when it was born.

There was a knock at the door. While I was trying to figure out how they’d made it past the code locked door at the entrance, my name was being called. “Gi, open up! It’s your brother.” The voice called.

“Sh*t.” I whispered to myself. I definitely wasn’t ready for this pop up visit. I mean, what is he doing with his life where he just leave new York whenever he saw fit to come to Chicago? And with no announcement?

He knocked again, “I know you’re in there, I talked to Soso and mom. Open up or I’ll use my key.” He jingled what sounded like keys.

“The fck?” I mumbled. How this nigga get keys? I sighed and struggled to get up and not be dizzy. I unlocked the door and flung it open, “When did you get a key?”

He smiled, “Hello to you too little sister.” He kissed my forehead and moved past me, carrying a duffle bag indicating that his stay would be awhile. “And I was bluffing. I don’t have a key. If I did, I wouldn’t have bothered with knocking.” He smiled as he entered my room.

My covers were on the floor, I couldn’t make it to the bathroom this morning so I had to change my set. Needless to say, in my fckd up state I hadn’t gotten around to taking the soiled set down to the basement to wash.

“Okay, ew. What’s wrong with you?” he screwed his face as he began to pick them up.

I rolled my eyes and sat on my bed, “I’m sick you a**hole.”

“I love you too.” He commented sarcastically.

I looked over at him, “Why are you here?”

“Because, I wanted to meet this guy that you keep talking about.” He looked at me.

Laying back, I looked at him, “Thought you were gonna come down on the fourth?”

“But I’m here now.” He said sitting next to me. “So what has my baby girl sick?”

I sighed and covered my face, something I’d do when we were younger when I didn’t want to be bothered. I wasn’t ready to come to grips with it myself, let alone start telling the world.

He snatched my hands away, “What’s wrong?”

“It’s bad brother.” I sighed.

He laid next to me, “Can’t be that bad.”

“It can, and it is.” I responded.

He took me into his arms, let me know that I was safe and could tell him anything. “Tell me.” Was all he had to say.

“I can’t. I have to work through it myself first.” I reasoned with myself more than I did with him.

He nodded, “Hmmm.” He got up and walked towards the door, “I’m hungry. I’ll be back.” He announced and went into the kitchen.

A text from Mike came through my phone, <em><strong>Hey, I’m at home now grabbin clothes. Give me 15.</strong></em>

<em><strong>No. My brother’s here. Raincheck?</strong></em> I was so not ready for this to go down.

He texted back swiftly, <em><strong>Okay, just call me. Feel better, I love you.</strong></em>

I smiled, <em><strong>Definitely, I have something to tell you. I love you too.</strong></em>

My brother reappeared in the door frame, “You guys have nothing to eat.”

“Lies, we just went shopping.” I stated with my eyes closed.

He stood there, my guess, inspecting me. Trying to figure out what was wrong with me. He’d never figure it out though, not unless I tell him. “You’re pregnant?” he asked nonchalantly.

I sat up, “What?”

“I just saw your laptop open on the floor in the living room. I was gonna pick up and put it somewhere safe. Then I saw the search. Is that what this is all about?” he kicked at the cover on the floor.

I covered my face once more and tried to drown him out, “Please, not now Omari. I’m just now starting to feel okay.”

“So you’re pregnant?” he sat down next to me.

My face still covered, I said nothing. I wasn’t ready to.

“Does he know?” he asked another question I didn’t want to answer. “Listen, I’m here for you no matter what. You know that right?”

I nodded but didn’t remove my hands from my face or part my lips to say anything.

“I love you little sister.” He laid down and pulled me into him. “Whenever you wanna talk I’m here.”

Run it

Standing outside the north side of the school waiting for Chris so that we could go to Subway, I receive a call from Chris that a student in his class had to be taken to the hospital because he had a seizure. He had to stay a bit longer with his class since they were set back from all that commotion in the middle of presenting projects, to let the rest of the groups present.

So walking alone to Subway, I exhale, minding the beautiful day outside while strolling along the sidewalk. "Wow," a familiar voice says, walking up beside me. My heart stopped for a minute, startled. Sighing and looking over to find Tremaine, "Nice ring." He lifts my left hand to look at it, but I snatch my hand away and stop, turning to him. "Rough day."

"No," I stare at him with a straight-face. "Quite lovely actually. How about you?"

"Great now that I'm talking to you."

"Perfect," I smile. "Glad I could make your day. We talked. Bye," I continue walking on, rolling my eyes.

"Don't be like that, Sofia..." he laughed as he walked behind me with his arms open, "C'mon baby, I thought you said that we could still be friends?"

I suck my teeth and turn around, stopping 7 feet away from him. "We can't be friends, Trey... And you know that," I shake my head. "I'm not sorry for doing what I did either."

"Oh so breaking my heart-"

"Oh please! I didn't break sht! What we had can't compare to what I have now with my fiance. So just do yourself a favor, and move on, okay?" I stare at him, watching as he scoffs before smiling and then licking his lips while staring down at the ground, clasping his hands together before clapping. "But I'll never forget how much a gentleman you were. The next woman who comes into your life, she'll be one lucky woman. I just wasn't the one. So forget about us, please. ...Goodbye, Trey."

"Sofia," Trey calls as I turn to back away. "Sofia! ...SOFIA!"

Ignoring him, I keep on walking towards the Subway. Suddenly my arm is grabbed roughly and I'm pulled into Trey's body. I stare up at him, observing his red and searching those angry, jealous eyes. Why couldn't he just let go of the lust we'd never move past from?

"HEY, LET HER GO!" Another man yells, soon walking up to us just when Trey lets me go. "Sofia, are you okay?" His voice was now familiar, and I turn to see Shad with deep concern in his eyes.

"Yes," I say softly as I back away while he got in front of me.

"Unless you want me to call the police, I suggest you disappear," Shad threatens.

Trey flicks his nose, smiling and backing away. "Congratulations, <em>Mrs. Brown</em>," he says sarcastically before turning to walk in the opposite direction back towards the school.

"Come on," Shad grabs my hand gently, "Where were you going?"

"In here," I say nodding to Subway.

"Alright," he sighs and opens the door for me. I walk in and he follows behind me, stopping to make sure that Trey was gone before he gets in line with me.

"Thank you, Shad..." I stare at him, smiling and then letting it fade.

"No problem," Shad clears his throat. It was silence for a few minutes until he tells me "I just uh, moved in down the street. Was coming from Wal-Greens a block back...when I um...saw you."

"Really," I question. "I could've sworn that you hated the city."

"Yeah, I did. Used to, but I'm getting used to it. I'm working as a bartender now," Shad explains, "and still at Footlocker. I figured I move downtown Chicago and make the trip easier."

"Good for you," I half-smile, nodding. "I'm happy to hear that."

"Well, I'm happy for you, too. Surprised that you're getting married...or already am," He smiles, eyeing the ring.

"Recently engaged," I say as I stare down at my ring.

"And that guy, an ex-boyfriend?"

"Something like that," I sigh, glancing from underneath my eyebrows, "yeah."

"One foot long, Italian bread..." The female employee <a href=>Angela</a> behind the counter says as I move up in line stating what I always get. She glances up at an incoming customer that causes her to keep the order going, "Chase, get a 6 inch wheat bread, Salami, Provolone cheese with a dash of black pepper, light green onions, and toast it. I'll get the rest."

I glance over as Chris slides pass other customers in line to get to the fridge and grab his favorite drink before passing by Shad. "Excuse me," Chris says and stands behind me, separating me from Shad. "Hey baby," He kisses me on the cheek, placing his hands on my waist. "Sorry about that. The kid just...out of nowhere babe, had a seizure."

"It's okay," I speak nearly whispering as I shrug and walk along the counter and stand in front of the register.

"Two or three sugar cookies," Angela glances up at me as she finishes off Chris' subway, smiling at me and then Chris while wrapping his sandwich up and putting it in separate bag.

"Two," Chris says for me, chewing on his lip.

"Three," I lip-synch.

Angela giggles and slides 3 in a small bag, winking at me, "3rd one free for you today, girl! I know it's y'all that are helping me out by writing those lovely comments on my services," she hands over the bags to Chris.

"You know it, Angela," Chris smiles as he hands her the usual $20. "Keep the change," We walk off towards the door. I glance over at Shad one last time and watch as he smiles at Angela causing her to blush before she moves back down to start on another customer. I hoped he had found someone too as much as wanted to be with me. "Watch out, babe..." Chris says as I turn and almost hit someone coming in.

"Excuse me. Sorry," I say to them and walk out as Chris holds open the door. "That was my manager I used to work with from Footlocker in there," I tell Chris as we walk back towards the school.

"The short guy standing behind you," Chris asks as he grabs my hand.

"He's not that short," I giggle as I look up at Chris, "we're the same height."

"Oh wait, wait, wait..." Chris smiles, "that's the ex-boyfriend you told me about who would harass you nsht!"

"Yeah," I smile, "that was him."

Chris laughs, "What was he doing, stalking you now?"

"No, no, no..." I shake my head and start swinging our hands, "he lives nearby since he's working two jobs out here."

"Sht, he might be working 3 the way Angela was eyeing him," Chris snickers. "Unless she was staring my fiancee down! And i can't have that!"

I laugh, shaking my head at Chris. Man, I loved the hell out of him. Can't deny that I fell pretty hard, too. He made me laugh to keep from crying, and smile to keep from frowning, and dance to keep from sulking. He was the best I ever had. "Mm," I groan and stop as we crossed the bridge, "I love you, baby."

"I love you, too, but why are we stopping," he turns to face me, towering over me while chewing on his bottom lip.

"Because I want a kiss before we get back to campus and we missed our usual lunch date."

Chris searches my eyes before letting go of my hand and placing it on my face to lean in and give me a kiss. Parting from him, I smiled wholeheartedly. They say sex is everything, and that's not a lie. But if anything else, there's more to a kiss, too. And his would give me life.

"Let's go before we don't have time to eat," He grabs my hand again as we head back to the school's building to sit and eat in his classroom before our next classes begun.
