Jay walked outside and blew warmth into his palms as the chilly evening air whipped across his face. He dug his hands in his pockets and walked down the empty block. He got to his post and stood there, looking in both directions. It had been a year. He was well on his way to a promotion, so he didn't sweat the lonely nights. He pulled out his iPhone and went through his contacts. He stopped on Monique's name, just as a young guy approached. He looked to be about 15. Jay looked him in the face and nodded.

"Mookie sent me." The guy said.

Jay dug in his pocket and handed him a dime bag. The dude handed him a crumpled twenty and walked off down the street. Jay pressed Monique's name and put the phone to his ear. Her voice broke the silence surrounding him and he looked down the street, as he leaned up against the building he shared this corner with.

"What you doin tonight?" He asked, his tone of voice implying that he wanted to see her.

"Mm, nothing if you tryna come through." She said.

"Be up when I call." He said, hanging up the phone and putting it back in his pocket.

He sighed and looked up at the sky and marveled at the number of stars he could count tonight. He wondered what was up there. He wondered who was sharing this view with him this evening.

3 miles to the north, Selena looked up at the stars and wished that she was there. She looked back at the crowd of kids surrounding the swimming pool, celebrating graduation. She spotted Narvin and his eyes were glued to her. She turned away and sighed. She heard his footsteps behind her on the concrete. He put his hand on her lower back and she stepped away.

"Are you crazy? What are you doing?" She asked, looking at him.

"I haven't heard from you." He said.

"I didn't know this was something I'd committed to." She said, frowning at him.

"So what? What happened doesn't mean anything to you?" He asked.

"No. She's my best friend, Narvin." Selena snapped.

"Can I have everyone's attention!"

Selena heard her best friend Chelsea's voice and she shivered.

"I wanna thank everyone for coming! Thanks to everyone who has ever been there for me. We're graduating you guys! This is huge. I've had so many good times with everyone out here. I'm gonna miss everyone. I really wanna thank my best friend Selena and my boyfriend Narvin for being there when I needed them. I love the both of you. I don't know who I'd be without you guys." She said.

Narvin smiled and Selena's face swelled with tears. She stared blankly back at her best friend and then at the sky. She didn't want to be here anymore.

Wow, what happend with these two, Selena and James are so distant and different with each other. I remember when they couldnt keep theyre hands off each other or go to long without seeing one another. Now it's like wheres the love. I dont like that at all. The girls have grown so much and are doing great, I love the twin bond they have with one another. Damn James hardly bonds with them anymore. I know school and work can be pressuring but your family feels neglected James, you need to fix that.
It's good he heard Selenas conversation with Charity now he knoes how Selena really feels and how it's effecting her. Why did they move away from home again????? They're so different with each other now and Im sad to see it like this.
Mr.Frasier and Hayden are FYNE and both seems to have interest in Selena hmmmm. James better get it together before one of them tries to steal Selena from him.
Good to know that Shane and Charity are at least doing good. I wonder hows the moms and Brianna and the other kids?
Im glad you added to this story Carmen I missed reading it. I love it. Run It!!!

James needs to learn balance and to step up and be apart of his family.

Selena needs to allow him the space to be apart, even if its just something small.

Overall, they need work together to make things better .

Runnn It !!
Glad you're back at this story :)

I can sadly understand why James is sad, & very hurt.
Him working so hard and being way from his family isn't
very great. He should step up, try harder, wow his family
and take them out. It'll be very fun!

Glad you brought this back! :)

Selena dropped the girls off at Mr. Frasier's room and the girls ran to play as Selena signed them in. He walked towards her.

"The girls are doing great," He said.

"I'm glad. Getting along okay? They kind of bicker a little at home," Selena said, adjusting the purse on her shoulder.

"They really protect each other here. It's beautiful to watch," He said. "Your fiancee picked them up the other day."

"I know! I should've warned you that morning. I apologize. Really." She said.

"It's fine. He seemed upset that I didn't know who he was." He said.

"He gets like that. A lot as of lately, probably won't see him anymore, so it's fine." Selena said, nodding.

Mr. Frasier smiled, "Well take care of yourself. I'll see you after work."

"Bye Terry." She said, smiling and leaving the room.

That evening, James read the girls a story and Selena sat in the kitchen, skyping Charity, who was sewing and listening to Selena talk. She stopped.

"You haven't said one thing about James," She said.

James was walking towards the kitchen when he heard his name. He froze in his tracks. Selena smiled.

"Well James and I don't really...we're not really a couple anymore." She said.

James' heart sank.

"What do you mean?" Charity asked.

"We share a bed and...I make meals, but we don't talk anymore. We don't have sex like we used to. I don't know. I'm trying." Selena said.

"Well Selena, are you happy?" She asked.

"Of course! I love my girls. North Carolina is beautiful. Great people, great wea-" Selena rambled.

"Are you happy with James, Selena?" Charity asked.

Selena paused and nodded, forcing a smile on her face, "Of course. It's James."

Even though he couldn't see her face or read her body language, he knew that she was lying. He walked into the kitchen and she looked over her shoulder.

"Speaking of, he just walked into the kitchen, so I'll talk to you later." Selena said, smiling at Charity.

Charity looked concerned. "Will you call me tomorrow?" She asked softly.

"Yes! Stop worrying." Selena said, smiling and ending the call.

She looked over her shoulder at James. "Girls asleep?"

He nodded and leaned against the counter.

"Great. Thank you." She said, shutting her laptop and standing up, putting the dishes in the sink.

James looked at her. "Selena are you happy here?" He asked.

She nodded, her back turned. "I love it here."

James walked towards her and wrapped his arms around her. Selena smiled.

"What's on your mind?" She asked.

"I just wanna...hold you." He said softly.

Selena turned off the water and turned around, looking at him.

"What's the matter?" She asked, reading his face.

"What do you need from me?" He asked, looking her in the eye.

"Huh? James you're handling everything. Bills are paid on time, you're keeping up with the house, you're...a good dad-" She said.

"From us? This relationship? I heard what you said to Charity about not feeling like a couple anymore." He said.

Selena shrugged, "You haven't...told me that you love me in weeks, James. We couldn't go a day without saying that before. You don't look at me anymore. We don't spend time together. Whenever we do, I can't help but think that maybe you're doing it because you feel badly, not because you want to."

"Don't think that. Anything that I plan for us, is because I really want that time with you. Work and school is getting in the way, but Selena, I still love you, as much as I did before. I don't want you to feel like I don't. I miss us...the people we were." He said.

"...But we're not those people anymore," She said softly. "I'm waiting on you to catch up with who I am now."

"I feel like I don't know her," He said.

"Well there's a silver lining," Selena said, smiling.

"What is it?" He asked.

"She lives with you...and she loves you...and she's waiting on you." Selena said.

He nodded and hugged her, "It's nice to meet you," He whispered.

Selena kissed his neck and smiled.

Awww Poor James and selena, they are so distant. They are so distant, that Selena is not even used to him asking questions and doing things with his daughters. He needs to step his game up!! And she needs to let him be there more, instead of looking at him funny when he does something. She claims she wants him to be there, but then asks stupid questions. They need to get back in sync with each other.

James didn't feel like he was part of the girls' life anymore. Selena pretty much had a routine and well...he wasn't part of it. He'd requested a day off from work, so that he could do some work around the house. He woke up at 7 to find Selena in full stride, getting the girls ready. He was always gone by this time. He sat, watching TV, but noticing Selena coming in and out of the room. There was water splashing and hair being combed and clothes ironed. She did it like a pro. It was effortless. He walked out into the hall to see the girls standing in front of Selena as she put on their belts. They were well trained and stood patiently. James smiled.

"Y'all have a good day at school," He said.

The girls ran towards him and he kneeled down and kissed both of them on their foreheads.

"Do I get a kiss too?" Selena asked, laughing.

He picked the girls up and looked at Selena before he pecked her lips. She smiled and took the girls from him.

"I'll pick them up from school," He said.

Selena looked at him funny, "Well...okay. Do you know where it is?" She asked.

He got offended by the question, "Selena we enrolled them together." He said. "Mr. Frasier, room 127."

"Okay. I'm sorry...I just...have a good day, okay?" She said, before she kissed his cheek and left.

James watched them walk down the steps and tightened his jaw. The mother of his child didn't think that he knew where his kids went to school. That hurt him...more than it would've a week ago. He worked around the house, fixing things that Selena had noticed. He cut the grass and rearranged his closet, before it was time to get the girls. He drove over to the school and went inside. He went to the classroom and Mr. Frasier looked at him funny before he walked to the door.

"Hey man, can I help you?" He asked.

"I'm here to pick up Aubrey and Ashton Taylor." James said.

"Oh...are you their father?" He asked.

"Yeah," James said, aggravated.

"Can I see some ID? It's just protocol, since I've never met you. Selena usually gets them." He said.

"You're on a first name basis with my fiancee?" He asked.

Frasier looked at James funny and took his ID. He walked to get the girls and James put his wallet away and waited on him to bring the girls over. Aubrey and Ashton smiled at him and he grabbed them and kissed their cheeks.

"I'll see y'all in the morning," Mr. Frasier said.

James glared at him and left the door.

OMG soo glad you brought this back! Interesting what is going on with them, can't wait to read more. RUN IT

Dinner was usually quiet, despite the outbursts of the girls. James took a sip of his juice and noticed Selena, who was eating quietly, her head slightly down.

"I talked to Shane," He said.

Selena looked up, half shocked about him talking to anyone other than his boss and half shocked that...he even said anything.

"Wow. I miss him. How's everything?" She asked.

"Cool. Him and Charity got a place. They're going on vacation soon." He said.

Selena smiled, "I'm so happy for them," She said, looking back down at her plate.

James struggled to keep the conversation he did something that he never does.

"Well, how was your day?" He asked.

"You really wanna know?" Selena asked, looking over at him.

"Yeah." He said, waiting on her to respond.

"Well it was great. I'm reading a new novel at work and- never mind, it'll bore you." She said.

"No tell me," He said.

"Well I'm reading a new novel and it's really good. It's about a woman who falls in love with her best friend, but he goes away to war before she can tell him, so she tells him through a letter and...I haven't gotten that far yet but I'm loving it so far," She said.

"That sounds really cool. How was the water park, Saturday? We haven't really caught up." He said.

"It was great. Aubrey took her first steps!" Selena said, smiling.

James' face fell and he looked at his daughter, face smeared with peas, laughing at her sister across the table.

"Sorry I missed it," He said.

"I took some pictures of them. They had a ball. I hope you can come next time," She said.

"I will." He responded, nodding.

After dinner, Selena went into her routine. Put the girls to bed, clean the kitchen, go to sleep. James was on the couch when Selena came downstairs to clean the kitchen.

"Hey babe! Brown Sugar is on." He said.

Selena smiled and leaned over the back of the couch, "Absolutely love this movie," She said, smiling.

James looked over his shoulder at her, "Watch it with me."

Selena looked at him funny, "You wanna watch a movie with me?"

"Why are you so shocked by everything I say?" He asked.

Selena didn't want to ruin the moment so she sat down next to him and smiled up at the TV. It went to commercial and he looked at her.

"You gonna answer the question?" He asked, searching her face.

Selena shrugged, "You just don't say much it's just always unexpected when you do." She said, looking at the TV.

James kissed her cheek and she smiled, "Sweet," She said, looking over at him. "I should clean the kitchen though."

"Do it later," He said.

She shrugged, "Okay," She said, looking away from him.

He put his arm around her and kissed her cheek. He didn't take his eyes off of her, with the hope that he could hold them together, right there, on that couch.

Selena worked an 8 to 3 during the week, so the girls were in daycare. Their teacher Mr. Frasier met Selena at the door everyday, as she struggled to hold both of them in her arms. He'd smile and take one of them from her. She smiled, thanking him and signed both of them in. It was hard for her to say goodbye everyday, and it was for them too. She and Mr. Frasier would come up with schemes for Selena to get away without the girls throwing a fit and crying. Today, he grabbed both of the girls and smiled at Selena before he turned around and looked towards the classroom.

"I got some new toys today," He said, looking between the both of them.

Aubrey and Ashton were scanning the room, while Selena scurried off down the hall. Mr. Frasier turned and smiled when he noticed that she'd left. He put the girls down and they waddled onto the carpet, holding hands. Selena got to work. She worked at a publishing company, where she read and edited novels of authors. She loved it. It was a dream come true for her. Not to mention, the paycheck was fantastic. She was in her office, checking emails when her coworker, Hayden, walked into her office.

"Lunch?" He asked.

"I brought something, thanks." She said, smiling and looking back at her computer.

He walked in and sat down on the edge of her desk, like he often did, asking her about the novel she was reading, or her thoughts on some current event. She enjoyed his company. He kept her on her toes.

"Your girls are so beautiful," He said, admiring them.

He noticed the engagement ring and placed the picture frame back down on her desk.

"So when's the wedding? Am I invited?" He asked, smiling.

Selena smiled a little. The wedding was...well, she wasn't even sure.

"We haven't really picked a date yet, so." She said.

He nodded and noticed a picture of she and James on her desk.

"So is that him? Whoa he's...a pretty big guy. Think I could take him?" He asked.

"No way in hell, Hayden." Selena said, laughing.

He smiled and bit his lip, "Let's...grab coffee soon?"

Selena looked at him and smiled, "Hayden, I'm engaged to be married. We've had this conversation."

"I know, I know! But it'll be completely professional...well not really. I mean bring Aubrey and Ashton. I'll bring my nephew. It'll be cool." He said.

"I'll think about it," Selena said.

He sighed and stood up, "At least you let me down easier this time."

"You're really persistent, you know that?" She asked, laughing a little.

He shrugged, "James is a lucky guy..." He said, smiling and leaving the office.

Selena sighed and crossed her eyes, "Sure..."

James rolled over on Saturday to feel the emptiness of the bed next to him. Selena's pillow sat neatly. He sat up and wiped his face, listening for any hint of movement in the house. There was none. He looked over at his nightstand to see a small note from Selena.

James :) We went to the water park! I made breakfast. It's in the fridge. I'll see you tonight. I love you.

James smiled a little and put it back. He hated the man that he'd become, consumed with work and school, but he was trying to get ahead for the girls, and for Selena...he just hadn't found the right balance yet. Selena wheeled the girls through the crowded water park and got them set up on a beach chair. She smiled down at the girls, who were looking around curiously.

"Not sure how this is gonna work. I need daddy here," Selena said, sighing, as she unbuckled them from their stroller.

She picked them both up and walked over to the infant pool, where she sat Ashton down first. There were small stools for the parents to sit on, so she found one and let Ashton splash around, as she adjusted Aubrey's swimsuit on her lap. She stood Aubrey in between her legs, and Aubrey held onto her knee, stomping her feet and shrieking. Ashton was walking into the small waterfall and running out, screaming. She came towards Selena and Selena smiled and wiped her face.

"I love my silly girls," She said, smiling and kissing their foreheads.

She looked up and noticed all of the families surrounding her. Moms and dads, sharing these moments with their children. Selena's been asked out on several occasions while out with the girls...because she's always alone. She missed LA. She missed her life. But Selena knew that this was her life now. Ashton took Aubrey's hand and Selena watched the scene unfold. They were communicating in their babble that Selena never understood, and like magic, Aubrey took her first few steps, with the help of Ashton.

"OH MY GOD!!!" Selena yelled, hopping up and throwing her arms in the air.

The girls clapped and Aubrey fell on her bottom. Ashton followed suit and sat down and they splashed each other back and forth, with Selena looking on. She got a lot of "congratulations" from Moms that had saw Aubrey take her first steps. She wished James could've seen it.

3 months later

Ashton was walking. Aubrey wasn't yet, but Selena could see her watching Ashton enviously every time Ashton pulled up and took a few shaky steps, cheering the entire way. Selena sat on the floor with them, while trying to watch Design Star when James walked into the house, on his phone. Selena looked over her shoulder. The girls shrieked. He smiled a little and walked past, going to the kitchen. Selena noticed the look on the girls' faces, so she did whatever she could to cheer them up. She picked up Aubrey and kissed her stomach. James walked out of the kitchen and hung up his suit jacket in the closet.

"How long ago did you make dinner? It's cold." He said.

Selena looked up at him from the floor, "About an hour ago..." She said softly.

"Mm," He mumbled, going back into the kitchen.

Selena put the girls to bed and went into she and James' room to find him, watching TV. Time had gotten by them. James was busy, with work and school. He'd began to resent Selena, even though he didn't explicitly say it - she felt it. She walked towards the bed and got underneath the covers. She looked over at him.

"Charity called earlier," Selena said smiling a little.

"Cool," He responded, his eyes fixed on the TV.

Selena looked down at her hands and then at him, "...This weekend. We could take the girls down to the water park."

"Gotta study." He responded.

"Right," Selena said, giving up.

She lied down and turned over, her back facing him. James looked over at her, wanting to say something, but he shut his lip and looked back at the TV.

I'm about to add, but I'm refreshing my memory! Give me a few moments.

I'm about to add, but I'm refreshing my memory! Give me a few moments.

thank you readers (:

I feel this story coming to a close. (In a good way.) I've enjoyed it so far! Yolanda needs to accept the fact that Selena and James will be together...their relationship has proven that is can withstand almost anything! RUN IT.

Her mother was dead wrong smh I can't believe shedding think he should be around his own daughters
Run it boo

I don't care for Yolanda and her attitude towards James. Sure he did his dirt, but Selena's no angel either and they'ge worked on their issues and moved past them so she need to do the same. Selena is grown and have a family now and her mom needs to butt out.

Aww; I was looking forward to an add like this!
They are such a great family, team & all. Selena finally
graduated. I'm happy for her & her major acheivement. She did it!
The twins are too adorable. James is very attached, there is no way he
could up & leave his girls, (including Lena) lol. Ms. Yolanda is a bit too harsh,
we all are aware of James past; and they moved on; time for her to do the
same, for Lena and her grandbabies sake! Lord.

Aww, they are moving and creating a new home. They are excellent,
Ontop of that, they will be engaged again! Yesss! Lol, James is so lovey dover now!
He has changed for the better, painting nails & being a family man. Ah!

Runnnnnn this! ASAP!
