*Six Years ago*
We were on the blacktop playing one on one. I was up by two and had the ball "Ju you're never gonna beat me" I said faking left and going right and made a lay up making the score 12-8. "game over, you suck Ju" I said sitting on the side of the court taking a swig of my gatorade. "man shut up, you know last game that fat kid fell on my leg" he said snatching my gatorade. I laughed at his sorry excuse, then heard my dad calling my name.
"Tae! Tae! It's time to come in the house"
Ju looked at me "until next time" he said getting up and reaching his hand out to pull me up.
"until next time" I said walking off with my ball as he walked in the opposite direction
I walked in the house to see my mom and dad sitting on the couch with my baby sister.
"what's going on?" I said sitting on my ball against the wall
"shaunte' sweety your dad is being stationed in Wyoming. Sooo we're moving" my mom said
My mouth fell open
"I know you've made friends over the past five years, but you're young you can make new friends were ever you go" she continued
"and it's not guaranteed that we stay there. We might even end up moving back here" my dad said trying to lighten the mood
"but what about basketball, and Julius? He's my best friend"
"Tae you can play basketball anywhere. And Julius...you guys can call each other or even write letters"
"okay, when do we move?"
"in one week"
I sighed deeply "okay" and I went up to my room.

The season was slowly rapping up and going into playoffs for both the girls and boys team. Valentines day and Mo's birthday was vastly approaching.
"what you and Mo doing for valentines day?" Ay said plopping down onto Tae's bed
"I don't know and you know his birthday is the day afterwards"
"oh he a love baby"
"yeah, but I don't know if he's doing anything for me. And I want to do something for him. He's been kinda distant since-" ayanna cut her off
"your birthday, I noticed. But it's been like a month."
"I know. You think it's because I'm definitely going to UCLA the coaches are still negotiating about him"
"it could be. but Lo, Ju and I ain't tripping that you and Tyler are going. This is the college process and it's worse for us cause we're athletes. Just tell him to suck it up and be patient."
"okay, I'll talk to him later" Ayanna's phone started ringing
"hey ma.....I'm at Tae's house.....about what?.....fine I'm coming" she hung up the phone
"I gotta go chica. My mom talking about she got some news for us" she hugged me then pulled away quickly "she better not be pregnant" I laughed at her reaction "b**** I'm serious"
"girl get outa here" I pushed her out my bedroom door.
About fifteen minutes later Ayanna called Tae.
"hello"
"ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!"
I pulled my ear from the phone "why are you screaming?"
"UCLA is giving me $25,000. My parents just gotta make up the other $5,000, which will be no problem. Ahhh I'm UCLA bound b****!"
"ahhhhhhh!!"
Linda bust through the door "Shaunte' what's going on!?"
"me, Ayanna and Tyler are going to UCLA"
"that's great. Congrats Ayanna and stop screaming before the neighbors call the cops" Linda said laughing a bit.

"who was that?" Mo asked as Tyler put his phone away
"Ayanna. She got in"
"damn son, it's just us left" Mo pointed to himself and Ju
"and Lo" Ju added
"damn. I'm getting nervous now"
Tyler passed him the ball "just relax"
"naw man you don't understand" he chest passed the ball hard back to Tyler

"when I went to Va...We went to UMD and they were talking about how much they want me and how they've been watching me"
"and..." Ju pushed him to continue
"they're gonna give me a full ride. And if I don't get one from UCLA I'm gonna have to go to Maryland"
"what about your mom? She's cool with you going that far?"
"yeah, since we got family out there. But I don't wanna go. I don't want to leave Tae. That's why I've been so stressed lately"
"s***" Tyler and Julius said in unison
"does Tae know?"
"hell no. I'm not saying anything till I know for sure what's gonna happen"

Lola and I sat at the table taking pictures
"Tae stop kissing my girlfriend" Ju pulled Lola over closer to him "I'm watching you" he said as we laughed.
At the table sat my parents, Maliyah, Ayanna, Tyler, Ju, Lola, Mo and a few team mates for my birthday dinner.
Everyone was laughing and having a good time but Mo seemed a little stand offish.
"what's wrong" Tae whispered into his ear.
He smiled "nothing I'm good. Are you enjoying your birthday?" she pecked his cheek
"yes I am. I'm glad your finally home"
"me too. I missed you" he pecked her lips
Just then the staff at the cheesecake factory crowded the table singing happy birthday with a slice of their 6 layer chocolate cake.
"Happy Birthday Shaunte'" everyone at the table yelled directing more attention to us.
"Thank you everyone. I'm really appreciate you all joining me in celebrating my birthday"
"Shaunte' we have something for you" Shaun got up pulling an envelope out of the inside of his jacket.
"can't it wait till we get home"
"no, I think you should open it now" he handed the letter over to her.
She read the front and it was from UCLA. She opened the envelope slowly pulling the papers out and reading it carefully.
"oh my gosh!" she shrieked
"well what is it?" Ayanna asked
"it's from UCLA. They want me and they're giving me a full ride" everyone at the table gasped in excitement.
Mo got up and hugged her "I'm so proud of you" he whispered into her ear then kissed her forehead
"damn Tae, you really in there. Well four more to go"
"how was you're Christmas" I asked Mo over Skype since he was in Va with his family
"it was good. Me and my cousins were out riding the dirt bikes and quads. My grandma and great grandma was throwing down. I prolly gained 20lbs"
I giggled "you're so fat" he shrugged his shoulders and smirked "when you coming home?"
"after new years. My mom wants to do some college visits" I c**ked my eyebrow up "don't even trip. I've been talking to the coach from UCLA almost everyday. My spot is as good as gold" he said confidently.
"that's great to hear" I smiled widely
"what the girls coach been saying?"
"that I have great potential and what not and she wants to offer me a full ride. But that's up for discussion with the athletics board."
"same s*** our coach saying babe. We in there"
I hope so

"it's very nice having you here Maurice, Ms. Brown" The coach from Maryland smiled
"it's great to be here" my mom said enthusiastically
I gave a half smile and shook his hand. "the moment I saw your highlight tape I called your coach because Maryland a bright, talented young man such as yourself. You have great speed for your size. Great shooter and just an all around team player. I'm working hard to get you a full ride here." Mel smiled at Mo proudly
"that's amazing. Isn't it Maurice"
"yeah, but you are aware that I have offers from alot of others schools including UCLA"
"yes, I am aware. And I'm also aware that UCLA hasn't made a definite offer yet. Say they don't offer as much. You'll always have a spot here" he said reassuringly
"we'll definitely take your offer into consideration" Mel answered for him
We soon left the University of Maryland campus and began to drive back to my moms home town in Tappohannock Virginia.
"you know if UCLA doesn't offer you a full ride you may have to go to Maryland"
I looked out the window not wanting to listen. "Maryland's a good school and you would be closer to more of your family"
"yeah, I know" I said dryly "but I'm going to UCLA"

Everyone met up at Mo's house before going to see the light show at the park.
Ju sat down holding his stomach "what's wrong with you" Tae said raising her eyebrow
"you sure you want to know" Ju laughed a little
"ewww" Tae walked off
Ju sat there still for another minute or two "I can't take this no more!!" he got up and ran to the bathroom.
"where in the hell is Mo?" Ty complained
"sorry y'all, I had Mo run to the store real quick" Mel said
"oh okay, he just told us to come he never said he wasn't home" I said "besides we're still waiting on Lola"
"where's Julius?" he scanned the room making sure she ain't miss him
"bathroom" we all said in unison. She nodded her head and walked up to her room.
Five minutes later Mo came walking in with two three bags of groceries, And Lola walking in behind him. Mel came walking down the steps meeting him in the kitchen.
"did you get everything?" she questioned looking at everything on the counter then at her list. "cus you know you always forgetting stuff"
"no you forget to write stuff down and I end up having to go back. But yeah I got everything" he sat on the counter
"boy you are too big to be sitting on my counter. Get down" she swatted him as he jumped down and kissed her on the cheek.
"where's Ju?" Mo asked out loud as he walked into the living room.
"bathroom"
"Ju you better not be blowing up my bathroom dawg!!" he yelled up the stairs
"uhh...he's in that bathroom" Ay pointed to the bathroom closest to the kitchen
Mo's eyes widened and Mel came walking out the kitchen "that boy is taking a s*** in my powder room?" she said slightly above a whisper with her eyes narrowed angrily. We nodded our heads "go get my wooden spoon"
As soon as Mo gave it to her Ju came out the bathroom spraying the air. Mel tip toed behind him and hit him repeatedly with the spoon.
"boy... I told you...don't be taking...no s***s... in my powder room" she said inbetween hits
"ahhh! I'm sorry I forgot..I just had to go" he move out of her reach.
We all sat on the couch and laughed "that ain't funny" he glared at us
"damn right it ain't" she hit him one last time.
Ju sat down next to Lola "ewww babe you nasty" she said in between laughing.
"yeah whatever" he put her into a headlock and messed up her hair
"Iight y'all let's go" Mo said getting up to grab his keys.
They all piled up into Mo's Range and pulled off.
