I sat on the couch before I heard a knock on the door. I looked over my shoulder to see Maris standing there with her purse in her hand. I got up and opened the door for her. She smiled and pecked my lips I did the same. I looked down and saw her protruding belly and smiled while putting my hands over it and smiled. I bent down and kissed her stomach and she giggled.
"Stop that." She said swatting my hand away playfully. She plopped down on the couch and looked over at me. "So what's so important that I had to rush right over here?" She said digging in her purse and pulling out a half eaten snickers bar.
I laughed she was so adorable.
"I got the deal!" she dropped the chocolate snack and her eyes got wide. And she smiled that flawless smile that I fell in love with.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so proud of you baby!" She looked at me and my face read sorrow and sadness. Her smile faded. "You're keeping something from me." She started wiggling around in her seat trying to get comfortable.
"I leave tomorrow," I said not wanting to tell her the whole truth. Her eyes got big again.
"Why didn't you tell me?!? I have to pack and get things situated with my mama. I hope we aren't flying cause you know 8 months pregnant over here..." she began babbling before her smile faded yet again.
"No. I'M leaving tomorrow." She dropped her head and chuckled a bit.
"Wow! Just when I thought you couldn't get anymore selfish. I'm having a baby, correction OUR baby in less than a month and you just up and leave? Typical. What your publicist for a career that you don't even have yet said you don't need baby mama drama right?" she was exactly right.
"Maris please! Don't do that. I love you to pieces don't do this to me, to us! I wanna be there for my son and I will! Just, it's just that I've been dreaming about this my whole life. I'll be back as soon as you have the baby and I'll fly you guys out I swear." she could see right through me. I wanted my best to be there but she and I both knew the extent to what was the truth and to what was not. She shook her head.
"Whatever Chris. I don't want to hold you back. So go ahead do you. I'll be cheering you on from here." She looked at me and pecked my lips before leaving. "Future reference, get your priorities straight. I would hate for you to f*** up twice in your life."
And with that said she shut the door.
But that was 4 years ago....
