Inside My Love.

I pulled up in front of the large building, adorned with dark LED lights. The parking lot was being swept by a young boy in Jordan's. He couldn't have been much older than me. I tightened the strap on my purse and walked towards the door apprehensively. It had come down to this. I didn't have another option. I knocked softly on the door at first... only for it not to be answered. The boy that was sweeping approached and hit the door loudly with his hand flat. I jumped, startled and looked at him. He tossed me a smirk and went back to sweeping. The door opened and he stood there, looking me up and down.

"...Who referred you?" He asked.

I put my hair behind my ear and parted my lips to say something but nothing came out. I shrugged. He studied me once more and looked me dead in the eye.

"Name?" He asked.

"Veronica... I go by Ronnie." I said softly.

He opened the door wider for me to come in, so I did. I hadn't ever been to one of these places, I'd only heard about them... saw them in movies. I looked around wondrously, and heard the giggles of females arriving and leaving, all of them carrying gym bags. I studied their curves and looked down at myself.

"What you here for..." He asked, dismissively. His eyes didn't dance in my direction, as he strolled casually beside me, checking out everything on the floor - making sure nothing was out of place.

He stopped suddenly and I did too.

"...I need a job," I said, searching his face.

He snickered. "So go to the mall and fill out applications, sweetheart. This isn't something for your resume,"

"I understand that," I said, shaking my head. "I wouldn't be here if I didn't need to be. I need a job," I said, pleading with my eyes.

He scratched his face, as he ruminated. He pointed to the bar. "You start there," He said, before he began to walk.

"I was hoping to dance!" I called after him.

He shook his head, "We'll see,"

I exhaled, and dropped my bag on the floor before the DJ put on some music. I looked around and sat down on one of the bar stools. Well... at least I had a job.

I let Cayden watch the majority of the show with me, but I took her back when it got inappropriate. We sat on the couch in his dressing room, playing games on my phone. She looked at me finally.

" daddy gonna take you to court?" She asked.

"Do you know what court is?" I asked, looking over at her.

"It's where bad people go to jail. Are they gonna make you go to jail?" She asked.

I smiled and shook my head, "Court is where problems are solved. That's all. It's nothing for you to worry about. I'll handle it."

"...I just wanna be with you." She said, looking me in the eye.

I pecked her lips, "Me too." I said.

She maneuvered into my lap and played Angry Birds. I helped her pass the difficult levels. The door opened finally and Aubrey walked in, smiling. He was always happy after a show. He shut the door and came and plopped down on the couch next to us. Cayden smiled and handed me the phone.

"Why are you so sweaty?" She asked laughing.

"It's hot up there!" He said.

"...what time do you have to leave?" I asked, looking over at him.

"At 2 AM." He said softly.

Cayden looked at me and then at him, "Will we see you for Christmas?" He asked.

I smiled at Cayden, "Cay he's busy,"

"Yes you'll see me," He responded.

I looked over at him, "How?"

"Come with me to Canada." He said.

Cayden smiled, her eyes wide, "CANADA?!" She shrieked.

"You're sure you're going?" I asked.

"I never miss Christmas with my mother. She's dying to meet y'all." He said.

" told your mom about us?" I asked.

"Yes," He said, smiling and standing up, going to the mirror. "Why wouldn't I? Y'all like family." He said, grabbing his phone.

"Can we go, momma?" Cay asked, looking at me.

"We'll see," I said, patting her legs.

She nodded and smiled. I looked at Aubrey through the mirror. The car to take us back arrived at midnight, so I put Cayden's coat on her and she looked at me, delirious and half asleep. A showered Aubrey picked her up and hugged her close, kissing her cheek. He handed her to me and I pecked his lips.

"I'll see you...soon?" I asked, unsure.

"Canada. Christmas. I'm serious, Veronica." He said.

"...Who's Christina?" I blurted.

"It's a long story," He responded. "I promise to tell you....everything."

My face fell, "Should I be worried?" I whispered.

He smiled, "No," He said, kissing my forehead and holding his lips there. "Absolutely not."

"Well I guess we'll go. Have a safe trip." I said.

"Okay..." He said, parting his lips to say something but he stopped himself and nodded. "Bye,"

I smiled and turned to leave. I knew what he was gonna say...and I knew that I wasn't ready to say it back.

The first person I saw, as I was escorted to Aubrey's dressing room was the girl from his instagram. A little envious of her beauty and time spent with Aubrey, I looked away and put my hand on Cayden's head. The girl's eyes followed us curiously as we walked. Cayden was looking around in awe, a big smile on her face. Justin Bieber walked out of one of the rooms and Cayden screamed, starting to cry. I fell out into laughter and he smiled and kneeled down.

"What's your name beautiful?" He asked her, taking her hand.

"Cayden," She said, weeping and wiping her eyes.

"It's nice to meet you Cayden, I'm Justin." He responded.

"I know!" She shrieked.

A small crowd had gathered and were in love with the moment. My eyes teared up a little too, watching her.

"Do you wanna take a picture with me?" He asked.

She nodded, her tears falling silently now. She stood next to him and before I could snap the picture, she kissed his cheek and laughed. Justin laughed and looked up at me.

"She's sneaky!" He said.

Cayden hugged his legs for a moment and stood away from him, burying her face in between my legs. I shook his hand.

"I'm her mom, Ronnie." I said.

"Ronnie...oh! Ronnie! I heard about you. It's nice to finally meet you." He said smiling.

The door to Aubrey's dressing room opened and he saw me with my back turned and Cayden holding onto my legs. He came up behind me and put his arm around me, kissing my cheek. I turned and smiled at him.

"Hi," I said, my face lit.

Cayden looked up at him and him down at her.

"What's up Buttons?" He asked, scooping her up and kissing her cheek.

She lied her head on his shoulder and he kissed my forehead and put his arm around me before he lead us into his dressing room. He shut the door and put Cayden down before he grabbed my face and pecked my lips, hugging me tightly. I shut my eyes and let the moment sink in. He pulled back and smiled, plopping down in a chair. Cayden went and stood next to him, looking up at him.

"Your hair got longer," She said.

"I know, I need a hair cut." I said.

"I can do it." She responded.

"Oh you cut hair now?" He asked, smiling.

"Yeah for 10 dollars." She said, laughing.

I sat down across from them and smiled. He looked over at me and I looked at him.

"We have so much to talk about," He said.

I nodded, "We do."

There was a knock at the door and Tae walked in. She smiled when she saw me.

"I guess I was right," She winked. "Drake did you look at what I pulled?" She asked.

He stood up and walked to the rack. Cayden came and got in my lap, before there was another knock. The girl from earlier peaked her head in.

"20 minutes until show time," She said, looking directly at Aubrey.

He glanced at her and nodded, "Cool." He responded, studying the clothes Tae showed him.

She looked at me and smiled a little, "Hey I'm Christina." She said, walking into the room.

Aubrey looked over his shoulder at her and Tae looked as us as well. I shook her hand.

"Veronica. This is Cayden," I said.

"Oh your sister?" She asked.

"...My daughter," I responded.

Her eyebrows raised, "Oh...she's beautiful. Hi Cayden." She said, smiling.

"Hi," Cayden said dryly.

She smiled and left the room. I wondered who she was. Cayden looked at me, "I don't like her," She mumbled.

When Cay was a baby, she was either extremely happy to meet people, or the complete opposite. Usually the one's she scowled at, weren't good people. I guess things hadn't changed and the way that she responded to Christina affirmed my suspicions about her.

I lied on my bed, reading. Cayden had gone to sleep and my TV shows were over for the evening. My phone vibrated from the nightstand, so I bookmarked my page and grabbed the phone, to see a text from an unsaved, but familiar number.

I know I was weird earlier, but I really am proud of you, Ronnie.

Jordan. I exhaled and rubbed my hand across my shoulder before I responded swiftly and deleted the thread.

Thank you.

I got onto instagram and put up a picture of my book, before I scrolled down my timeline. I ran across a picture of Aubrey and smiled, before I clicked on his name and went to his page. I scrolled through the various pictures of places he'd been on the tour. I stopped on one, of a girl with everything but her smile cropped out, wearing an October's Very Own jacket. My heart began to race but I didn't think much of it. I closed out of instagram and shut my book. I crawled into bed and went to sleep. The next morning, I woke up to the sound of Cayden's footsteps in the living room. I got out of bed and went out to find her making a pallet on the floor. I smiled and sat down next to her on the pallet. She lied her head on my lap.

"Can we stay here all day?" She asked.

"I'd love that," I said, stroking her cheek.

Aubrey pulled up in front of his hotel and hopped out of the car, shielding his face from the waiting cameras. He walked through the hotel lobby swiftly and onto the elevator. His body guard took him to the appropriate floor. He went to his room and took off his jacket, before he went to the window and looked out at the water. Santa Barbara. He was close to home. He pulled out his phone and dialed Ronnie's number, his heart racing. They hadn't talked in a few days. She answered the phone, yelling something to Cayden. He smiled.

"Hello," She said, finally.

"Hey beautiful." He responded softly.

"Hi, how are you?" She asked, her voice lively...but different.

"I'm good, I'm good. Hey I'm in Santa Barbara and...I'd love for you to come to the show tonight. Maybe bring Cayden? I know it's last minute and all, but I really wanna see y'all." He said.

Ronnie was quiet for a few minutes before she exhaled.

"I don't really have any gas, Aubrey." I said.

"I'll send a car for you, right now." He responded. "They can be there in 2 hours and make it back here before the show. Y'all can spend some time with me before I go on."

Cayden came into the room singing "I'm so, I'm so, I'm so, I'm so, I'm so proud of youuu."

Aubrey smiled, "See, she wants to go."

"Fine we'll come....I'll see you tonight," She said softly.

"I can't wait," He responded.

She hung up the phone and Aubrey smiled and dialed a number immediately.

"I need you to go pick up my lady from LA," He said.

I was greeted by my mother with flowers and a smile. It was the first one that seemed genuine since my 16th birthday, when I got my license.

"Thanks, Ma." I said, taking the flowers from her and smiling a little.

I looked up to see D and her husband walking towards me. He hung closely behind her, and I hugged her tight, glancing at him. Our eyes stumbled over each other's, like they always did when we were in each other's company. D nudged him and he looked at me.

"Congrats, Ronnie." He said, his voice distant, like I was only a familiar stranger.

"Thanks Jordan," I responded.

Cayden smiled up at him, as she hung onto my legs. I rubbed her head and looked down at her, wondering if she was still upset from earlier.

"Mommy where are we eating?" She asked.

"I'm not sure sweetie," I responded.

Truth, I didn't have much money to spend on going out to eat. My mom shook her head.

"I made reservations for us downtown at Lache's," She said.

"Mom I can't..." I said softly to her.

"Oh hush, it's my treat. You just graduated from college, Veronica. I can buy dinner." She said, rubbing my shoulder and grabbing Cayden's hand.

I looked at D & Jordan, "Thanks for coming, means a lot." I said, smiling.

"Of course! I'll come by tomorrow. I'm proud of you," D said, hugging me tightly.

I glanced at Jordan before I walked off behind my mom and Cayden. I drove behind my mom and Cayden to the restaurant. When we got inside, and got our table, Cayden sat looking up at the ceiling. When my mom went to the bathroom, I put my arm around Cayden and kissed her forehead.

"Are you still upset with me?" I asked.

She shook her head and opened her menu, "I'm proud of you Mommy." She said.

My eyes teared up and I rubbed her back, "Thank you baby," I said softly.

My mom came back to the table and looked over at me, a small smile on her face.

"So what's next?" She asked.

"Well, I'll switch to a full-time internship for now... and get paid. I'll start looking into master's programs for next fall," I said.

She nodded, "Take some time for yourself. You deserve it," She said.

"Thank you mom," I said, exhaling and smiling.

We ordered our food and ate, before we parted ways with Mom and walked back to the car. Cayden skipped alongside me, singing.

"Did you ever mail my letter to Santa?" She asked.

I nodded, "Sure did! He'll be here on the 25th." I responded.

"I know, it's on my calendar." She said, smiling.

I'd gone damn near broke buying Cayden's gift for Christmas, but with the money I'll make at my internship now, it'll get better.

Ok first off I am so happy that Ronnie is graduating! She has worked so hard and she deserves it!! Second off, Aubrey is amazing and I love him lol. He cares about Ronnie and Cayden so much and he shows that and I love him. Even with his career, he manages to make time for them and show them how much he cares. Last off, Carter is one sorry son of a b***h! Like why would he disappear and keep coming back?!? He cannot keep doing that to Cayden, it's not fair to her at all. She is going to become confused if he keeps doing that to her. And he wants to take Ronnie to court?!? Is this fool serious?! He hasn't done anything for Cayden!! Clearly he has no evidence that Ronnie is a bad mother because she is the opposite and if anything, a trial will expose all of his faults. He better get some brains and just leave Cayden and Ronnie alone for good. Can't wait to read more!! RUN IT!!!

Aubrey's so amazing sending Ronnie those beautiful flowers congratulating her on graduating and just to let her know hes thinking about her and wishes he were there so sweet.
Things were all good till this mofo Carter showed up talking bout some he's ready to be a dad, uh no. Thats not how it works you cant just come into her life cause its convient for you and then dip put when it becomes to much for you. That not a parent Ronnie doesnt get that option ever. Then he had the nerve to holler about some court uh no boo. Caydens Five years old and you've never paid Ronnie a dime for child support, and wanna holla about some court yeah go ahead try it, see what happens. Wait till Aubrey hears this mess. He just ruined one of the most proudest and important days of Ronnies life UGh hater. RUN IT!!!

Really Carter, court? You weren't there for Cayden for 5 yrs and when you did come back it was for three months. Aubrey might as well be her dad. I mean s*** he's done more for Cayden then you have done for Ronnie and her put together! Carter shut that s*** up!
Run it

I swear man Carter is a douchebag for what he did.,If you even try to take Ronnie to court s*** will not go your way!!!!
UGH he just pissed my whole soul off:///

i honestly think that was for the best .

I love Aubrey but Carter on the other hand can fall in a ditch somewhere smh. did he really say "I'll see you in court" nigga byeeeeeeeee!!! don't deny your child, come around six years later saying you want a relationship with her and then bounce three months later because you're unsure of wtf you want. and then he tried to come back like s*** was all good smh poor Cayden will understand in due time but I still want her to have a relationship with him. every girl needs a father

Poor baby! I wish he would have just stayed where he came from

I wish she would've agreed, but I understand why she did it. I think they need to sit down and rationally talk about things, because she's making decisions out of anger. That's not fair, granted she has EVERY right to be angry. I think she should at least give him one more chance before things get ugly or Cayden resents her. I love Cayden cuz she said she can't hate her. Aww she's the one getting thrown in the middle of all of this drama. smh run it!

No the hell he did not come up in there after abandoning them...AGAIN...and threaten to take Ronnie to court.....fool!....not only will you lose that battle....they might end up throwing you in jail for all that back child support you owe.....dumb ass.

Awwww poor lil thing :(..Carter knows he's wrong for even showing up smh

I hate Carter!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awwwww, I love Cayden (:

Graduation morning, I was running around the house, making sure that I had everything, that Cayden was dressed and ready to go. She came out of her room in her dress and smiled up at me.

"Mommy you look pretty." She said.

"Thank you," I said, smiling.

There was a knock at the door, so I looked at my watch and walked to the door, pulling it open. It was a bouquet of flowers, larger than the delivery boy's head. I smiled and took it from him, signing for it. Cayden's eyes lit up and she gasped.

"Are those for you?!" She shrieked, walking towards me and looking up at them.

I took the card off and opened it.

So graduation is today and I imagine that you're looking stunning when these flowers are finally delivered. I want to congratulate you on earning your degree. If I've ever needed anyone to give me motivation, it's you. Your resiliency and dedication to bettering yourself makes me want to wake up and be a better man everyday. I wish that I could be there...more than you know.

I smiled deeply and slid the card back into the envelope when there was a knock at the door again, with more flowers.

"More?!" Cayden shrieked.

The person moved the flowers away from their face, revealing Carter's face. My smile dropped.

"DADDY!" Cayden shrieked.

He smiled at her and sat the flowers down next to the bouquet from Aubrey before he kneeled down to hug her. She hugged him tightly, and within a few moments, I could hear her starting to cry, her small body shaking from her sobs. He rubbed her back.

"Why are you crying?" He asked her.

"You left and didn't say goodbye," She said, pulling back and wiping her face.

"I'm sorry sweetie," He said, wiping her tears and looking up at me.

I scowled at him and waited impatiently for him to leave. He stood back up and Cayden hung on his legs, her eyes shut tight.

"I just wanted to come by and say congrats on graduation. I know that this means a lot to finally finish. I was hoping to see Cayden too," He said, smiling down at her.

"Out of respect for our daughter, I won't tell you how I feel about you...but you should probably leave before I do." I said softly.

"...I wanna work something out. I've thought about everything and I was wrong to leave y'all hanging like I did. I'm immensely sorry. I just..had so much going on inside." He said.

"I've always got things going on inside, Carter but it's not about me anymore! It's about her." I said, pointing to Cayden. "And until you start putting her first, I don't want you here."

I pulled Cayden away from Carter and she bursted into tears. Carter's lips parted and he pleaded.

"Let's work something out..." He said.

"No," I said.

He exhaled, "Then I'll see you in court." He responded.

"Excuse me?" I responded, my voice raised.

He shrugged, "I tried to work something out so that it wouldn't come down to this."

"Do you know how much child support you owe me?! In 6 years, Carter you chose to spend 3 months with her. Go to court and embarrass yourself if you want to. I'm not f***ing worried." I responded, slamming the door in his face.

I regretted cursing in front of Cayden immediately and walked down the hall to my room, to rid myself of my emotions. I heard Cayden's sniffles getting closer to the door as I stood by the window, my face in my hands. Cayden stood at the door, looking over at me.

"...why were you so mean?" She asked.

I turned and looked at her, "I wasn't trying to be mean, Cayden." I said softly.

She looked down at the floor and I walked towards her and kneeled down.

"Your daddy...has hurt the both of us, Cayden and I don't want him to any longer." I said.

She nodded and looked at me, "What does this mean? Can I see him anymore?" She asked.

"Not for now," I responded.

Her face swelled and she started to cry again. I hugged her close and kissed her forehead, "Please don't hate me, Cayden." I whispered.

"I can't," She said through her tears.

I lied on my back in my room, watching TV when the door opened and Cayden revealed her face.

"Hey," I said, looking over at her.

She smiled and tiptoed in, like she needed to be quiet. She got on the bed and lied down on top of me. I rubbed her head with my head.

"What's going on?" I asked.

She looked at me and shook her head, "I just missed you." She said.

"I missed you too." I responded.

"Is grandma coming to graduation tomorrow?" She asked.

"Yes," I responded, smiling.

"And D and Jordan?" She asked.

"Yeah they'll be there too." I said.

She smiled and wiggled a little. "We get to eat good food!" She said.

"I don't make good food?" I asked.

"You do, I just want some food from a restaurant like when we're with Aubrey." She said. "When is he coming back?"

"Not for a while, sweetie." I said, rubbing her head.

"I miss you?" She asked.

I nodded, "Well that's okay 'cause you've got me." She said.
