"Let The Drummer Kick"

As Citizen Cope gracefully soothed her mind, she stood companionless in the middle of the empty community college gymnasium right in the middle of the faint halfway line of the basketball court, looking pleasant and light-hearted on the outside, but feeling nervous and disgruntled on the inside.

With the ball trapped just between the fat on her bicep and ribcage, she looked up at the horribly painted red and white walls and read the different banners and pennants from previous years and even before her time that hung there decorating the walls. There were plenty for her to go through.

A quick indrawn breath escaped her lips.

"I hate transferring.." she mumbled under her breath.

Because her music was so loud, she wasn't able to hear the sound of a whistle being blown from the coaches lips as he trudged in front of his team of varsity senior boys. As the screeching sound came to an end it was replaced by the squeak of twelve different pairs of sneakers pacing against the freshly waxed wood floors of the gymnasium.

In single file they ran behind one another. The vibration coming from the floors underneath her feet is what snapped at her attention. She turned to her left and in time she caught sight of the team running laps around her. She met eyes with their feet until she met with the last pair and brought her eyes up to the face of the owner.

<a href="">Josiah</a> jogged at a good pace behind his team making sure no one fell behind and everyone stayed in line, but every few seconds his attention was pulled over to the girl standing in the middle of the court. His eyes didn't want to stay on her for long, but something wouldn't let him pull away. Her presence was like a gravitational pull. He couldn't see her face for a while until he came around the front end of the court to catch her staring at the ground by his feet, he wanted a better look though, so he kept his eyes locked on her face for as long as he could and as if she felt his burning stare, she finally looked up from his traveling shoes, to his eyes.

They were locked on one another.

She wasn't sure why she felt the need to stare, her mother had taught her better than that.

A tap on her shoulder had her snap out of her mind and around to face the person whom the finger belonged to. The coach stared down at her with questioning eyes, causing her to squint in confusion before she removed a bud from her ear.

"I said I'm sorry, this is a closed practice. No spectators miss..." Asked the well built <a href="">man</a> in all Adidas wear.

"J-Jade..Vice." She stuttered, nerves getting the upper hand.

"Ahh, from the Wakelin Community College Hornets varsity team, right?" Asked the coach. <a href="">Jade</a> nodded shortly before letting her eyes dart over to the jogging team, coincidently landing on Josiah's once again.

"I heard through the grapevine that you'd be joining us soon. I'm Coach Mack. It's nice to meet you." Said the coach holding out his hand for her to shake.

She tore her eyes away once she saw that he was looking right back at her. She wondered if he were staring at her, or the conversation between her and his coach. Looking out in front of her she joined hands with Coach Mack and smiled small.

"Nice to meet you too, Coach." She replied softly.

"You trying out tomorrow afternoon? My girls varsity could really use a good point guard. Emphasis on the "good" part." He asked with a brow raised. Jade smirked dryly. She wasn't so sure she wanted to go through the whole process of joining a team again. She had been snatched right out of her comfort zone and dropped into a brand new life that she knew nothing about.

"I'm not sure I want to this time around..too much I gotta do right now with classes and catching up and what not..I don't know.." She answered with a simple shrug of her shoulders.

"Give it some thought, and if you decide it's what you want..then I'll see you here tomorrow at 2:30pm sharp." He rested a comforting hand on her shoulder, patting it gently. Jade offered him a smiled and nodded.

"Transition's always tough but, you're gonna like it here..and I'd love to have you on our team Miss. Vice." He encouraged. Jade, feeling very conflicted at the moment, only smirked at his words.

"Thanks Coach.." She spoke lowly, almost instantly falling into a depression over the matter. She'd have a new coach, a new team even. Building relationships with people was never her strong point.

Josiah had managed to perfect the art of not seeming like a creep in the time he'd been running laps with his team. His teammate for a year, <a href="">Ryder</a>, spun around on his heels and began jogging backwards, grabbing Josiah's attention.

"Ey dawg, who's that talkin' with coach? I ain't never seen him so nice, even with girls." He asked eyeing the two bodies in the middle of the court as his face twisted up in confusion. Josiah only shook his head and looked back over to her, thinking that since Ryder was doing it, there was no way he'd look weird doing it as well. He couldn't see her face anymore, only her back and the outline of her small frame. She was tall, but not freakishly tall in his opinion. He judged by the ball tucked underneath her arm that she was a baller, which immediately caught his attention when he first laid eyes on her.

"I don't even know man. Look like she a baller though." He breathed trying to pace himself and speak to his friend, who shrugged and returned to his jog, spinning on his feet to face the front once again.

Jade locked eyes with him for what must had been the fourth time now. She couldn't deny that from where he was he looked absolutely gorgeous. His glistening caramel complexion and tattoos really did wonders for him. His toned legs and defined biceps really had her taking second looks. He had almost all of her attention.

"Give it some still gotta go though. It's still a closed practice." Smiled Coach Mack. Jade pulled her eyes off of the boy and focused on the man, delivering a light hearted chuckle and a nod.

"See you around Coach." She paid one last look at the team and then the last runner, catching his eyes yet again before she turned on the heels of her shoes and trailed out of the gym at a smooth pace.

From what she could gather the coach was a cool and down to earth man. He was young, and vibrant with every word he spoke. She liked that.

Josiah watched as she retreated out of the gym. Her long flowing dark hair sweeping her cheeks as she moved with a calm he hadn't seen anyone walk with in a while. He wondered what her story was, knowing by the way she looked at him, that she has one.

"Ey Coach can we stop man?!" Yelled a tired Ryder. The coach laughed and blew on his whistle, signaling for them to stop and meet in the middle of the court to do some stretching.

"Ey Coach who was that fine piece of tail you was talkin' to?" Asked another of Josiah's of teammates and friend, <a href="">Dev</a>. Coach Mack threw him a look.

"A piece of tail you will never get to Devon, so hush." He told him. The gym was then filled with laughter. Josiah had to laugh himself.

"I see you Coach.." Muttered Dev with a sour look.

"Nah but for real though Coach..who she be?" asked Josiah with curiosity written in the creases of his forehead. Coach Mack looked over at the captain of the senior varsity team and smirked.

"I'm surprised you don't already know." He said. The boys all looked at one another with confusion.

"Jade Vice. Former point guard for the Wakelin Community College Hornets. She transferred from there last week. She's well known back where she's from." He told them, watching as they switched stretches.

"Which is?" Asked Ryder.

"Brooklyn." He replied.

"Woo..damn! Shorty came a long way dawg. From Brooklyn to Atlanta?" Spoke Dev. Josiah's eyebrows raised in slight surprise. That was quite a random change in scenery. Shaking his head, he also shook her out of his thoughts knowing he had better things to worry about.

"Aight, aight enough with that talk. Let's go everybody to the base line! I want suicides let's go!" Said the coach as he blew his whistle and watched the boys jog to the base line, ready to work hard.

"We got our first game of the school year on Friday! Exactly one week! First game of the semester! And I want a win! So we gon' work! Let me see y'all put in work!" His yells echoed throughout the gym as he strolled along the half way line with his hands behind his back. The teams feet pounded against the wooden floors leaving skid marks at every line.

As Jade stood outside the gym she was immediately met with the fresh air of the day, the breeze was calm and sun was bright and high in the afternoon sky. The campus was flooded with students mingling and horse playing with each other in their groups. Jade stood there, alone and in her own world as she looked over everything in front of her. This was the view of her life now. Things were so different from her city life.

Digging into her pants pocket, she pulled out the folded paper with the directions to her dorm room and the blueprint to the college campus. She read over the title at the top of the page.

<em>Welcome to University of Atlanta!</em>

Groaning internally, she began to move in the direction which she hoped was right and would take her to her dormitory.

<em>"Let the drummer kick, let the drummer kick that.."</em>

OMG!! stop teasing us Harley!!!

The brace around her neck and the splint and cast around her fingers and shoulder along with the bandage around her ankle let Josiah know that Jade was in really bad shape. Her dry bloodied face made his heart feel as though someone were gripping it tightly. There were nasty darkened bruises all over her face and arms. Tears burned his eyes like acid. Josiah clenched his jaw in anger and balled his fists by his side as he sniffed and made his way slowly to the bed where the empty seat sat.

He blew out a shaky breath.

She looked so normal just a few hours ago. Her smooth skin was now battered and sliced open in areas that shouldn't have been. Her plump rosy lips were busted. The sight was truly unsettling.

Josiah rubbed at his chest as he took a seat. Pain was all he felt.

"..V, bab-..the f*** happened?" He whispered to himself as he sat in the vacant seat, a grave face painted on him. A moment of silence passed over him making him uncomfortable. He wasn't used to Jade in that state. Whenever the two were together, she always had something to say.

"...I was hit by a car......isn't that obvious-mm..." Spoke a raspy and broken voice. Josiah's eyes snapped up to look at Jade, her eyes were still sealed shut, but her lips were slightly parted. He reached over to her hand but stopped over it, remembering the casts and bandaging around it. He zone in on it.

That was her shooting hand.

Josiah folded his lips in trying his hardest to keep the tears in. He looked up at her.

" awake?.." He whispered, not wanting to be too loud.

"" She whispered back painfully. Her lips hurt, he could tell by the way they moved. She was avoiding reopening the cuts around them.

"Then open ya eyes, dummy." He cracked the smallest of smirks. He just wanted everything to be normal again. Whatever that was in the first place.

" hurts.." She weeped squeezing her eyes tighter.

Jade hurt all over. There was no way of avoiding it. Any twitch or movement of muscle had her wanting to scream. Her upper body hurt the most. She knew without even looking at herself, that things were bad.

She went to move her hand up to touch her chin that currently burned, but immediately she gave up as the pain spiked through her fingers, knuckles and all up her arm.

She sobbed keeping her mouth closed, she didn't want to reopen her split lip.

Excruciating was all she could think of.

"s***. Don't move..don't move baby...ffffff***." Swore Josiah under his breath. He wasn't sure of how much more he could take. All he wanted to do was take the pain away from her.

"Ziah.." She bawled. The sight caused Josiah's heart to nearly give out.

"I can't-" Josiah cut himself off with a heavy sob. The pressure on his shoulders suddenly becoming too much. The stress of his life finally caused him to break down. His shoulders shook as he rested his elbows on his knees and his face in his hands.

"Imma go get you a nurse." He panicked as he stood from the chair and sped out of the room.

"..Col-by.." Jade wept into the now empty room.

run it

I't so crazy how spiritually connected they are....that is some real deal true love there. I really hope both Vice and Colby pull out of this alright.

OMGGG Glad Jade is ok
RUN IT!!!!!

Come onnnn .. you teasing w these adds lbs

Run Ittttt

So, I've been reading stories on this board for a while. Due to the last few adds of this story, I felt the need to make an account just to comment! I would tell you my thoughts from the beginning up till now, but that'd be too much typing on my behalf. Anywho, about this car accident. Whyyyyy did they have to get in a car and go somewhere to talk about their issues! I would've preferred them to walk somewhere off campus or whatever that's secluded and deal with their problems there! This accident was so tragic, I was honestly holding back tears! I'm glad they're both going to be ok, especially Jade. I guess both of their basketball careers are done with, well at least for the season since they both have broken ribs. And Josiah, bless his little heart! I know for a fact he is all messed up on the inside. The connection that the two of them have is out of this world! I bet if Jade's still unconscious when Josiah goes to see her, she'll move or wake up when he touches her! I wish Jade would've been more accepting about her feelings for him, then none of this would of happened. I'm really curious to hear Colby's parents' thoughts on him and Jade's relationship though, I'm pretty sure they know now. Anywho, this story is truly amazing! I get on here every day just to see if you updated! You're such a talented writer and I truly appreciate the fact that you take the time out of your life to get on here write this lovely story. Alright, I'm done. (:

run it!!!!

Josiah's fingers fumbled in his pockets as he walked along the white tiled floor. Anxiety fell over him. He hated hospitals and everything that took place inside of it. This was a place of sickness and bad news combined. A place of death and depression.

"Hi. We here for Jade Vice? She was in a car accident with Colby Hart?" Spoke a nerve wrecked Ryder. Josiah stood quietly behind him, stuck inside of his head.

"Jade?" Asked the receptionist.

"Jade Rose Vice.." Helped Josiah. He just wanted to get to her already. He had no idea what her state was and if it were anything like he imagined, which wasn't comforting at all.

"She's up in IC. Room 205, but visiting hours are--"

"Please. We ain't gotta in, but just let my boy go in..please?" Begged Ryder. The nurses eyes softened at his kind nature.

"..just him." She smirked. Josiah released a breath of relief and liked to his friends.

"You go. We'll wait out here. Imma go call up coach and the girls and let them know what went down." Said Ryder as he passed a hand over his stressed face.

"Wish her well for us man." Said Dev as Josiah dapped them both before taking off in a light jog down the hallway.

Run Itttttt ! ASAP

Run It!!

Jade lay in critical condition. Her mother sat by her side, tears rinsed her flushed cheeks. Weeping heavily and uncontrollably, she grabbed a tight hold of her limp hand. The silence that had fallen over the room since her and her husband walked in seemed to swallow them whole. Taking them to an uncomfortable and dark abyss.

Her baby. Her only, was only hanging on by a thread.

"Look at her...Richard I can't--"

"Honey she's gonna be fine. Just have faith. We need to be strong for her." Spoke Jade's father as he sat on the opposite side of his unconscious daughter. He reached up to swipe a loose strand of hair from her forehead. He was careful to avoid the abrasions and bloody gashes all over her face.

She looked horrible. Almost unrecognizable.

Just then, a nurse entered the room. Both parents acknowledged her with looks of concern as she made her way to the foot of the bed where Jades chart was. Delivering a kind smile, the nurse jot down some information on the chart. A doctor then made himself present.

"Hello, I'm doctor Freeman. I'm the one who's been taking care of your daughter-"

"Oh doctor please tell us she's gonna be alright? Please?!" Cried Jade's mother.

"She is going to be fine, though she was really banged up in the accident. She does have whiplash and due to the severity of of the crash, nerve damage may occur along with slight swelling in the cranium. When she wakes she will be experiencing headaches, dizziness, fatigue--"

"A concussion?--"

"She'll be fine. She's breathing on her own which is a good sign. She's a fighter. Most patients involved in car accidents suffer from these injuries. She does also have three fractured ribs on her right side. One punctured a lung, but we were able to repair it during surgery. She shattered her right wrist. Her index and pinky are fractured and we were able to pop her dislocated shoulder and we bandaged her sprained ankle. As you can see, the splint and casts will help her along the way to recovery." Explained the doctor. Her parents wept silently.

"She'll wake soon, but we need to give her some time to rest. That's all we can do right now. I'll give you two a minute before visiting hours end." Said the doctor.

"What about her boyfriend? Colby?" Asked Sharon, Jade's mother.

"Uh..I'm not authorized to inform anyone who isn't immediate family--"

"Please doctor.." Begged Sharon. The doctor sighed.

"..He's resting. Just a few cuts and bruises and two broken ribs. He'll be up and around in no time." He smiled softly.

"Thank you doctor." Said Richard. The doctor nodded and left the room.

Richard rounded the bed to take hold of his wife's hand. The parents wept for their daughter.

Happy you're back!

Man Josiah felt something wasn't right. And he about passed out himself hearing Jades name on the news in that accident.

Oh goodness! c'mon J dawg, you and Josiah supposed to be worming towards being together, you better pull through! FIGHT!! Run it Harley girl!!

Colby woke in a painful haze, things were blurry and shaky. He was sure he had a concussion. Rolling his eyes from the back of his head, a ceiling came into view and then a Caucasian man. He stood above Colby with relief and concern washed over him. His mid-aged stubbled face brought a comfort to Colby's state.

"Hey were a little touch and go for a bit. Thought we lost you." He spoke slowly. Colby couldn't follow. His eyes darted back and forth between the man and the ceiling.

"You're in an ambulance and were taking you to the hospital...can you remember your name?" Asked the middle aged man. Colby fought to speak. He remembered who he was.

He remembered everything.

"C-...olby." He struggled.

"Good job buddy." Praised the paramedic.

"Shh...shhhh don't force your vocals. We don't want you straining all that much. You've got a few broken ribs, but you're gonna be fine, you hear me?" Spoke the paramedic. Colby let the tears slide down the side of his face. He let his head droop to the side, bringing Jade into view.

Her hand hung limply off the side of the gurney. Her eyes shut and her body completely unconscious. Colby's heart raced with pure panic as his heart rate increased.

"Hey. Hey, hey, hey calm down, calm down. I need you to stay with me. Stay wit--"

Colby fought against the paramedics hold. He didn't care how hurt he was, guilt washed him whole and worry filled his heart. He had no idea if she was alive or not.

"Jade?....Jade!.........JADE!" He screamed brokenly into the truck.

"I'm callin' her but I'm not gettin' anything. Colby ain't answerin' either. It's like their phones off." Spoke Ryder as he dialed Jade's number for the fifth time.

"Try T and them." Said Josiah as he thought hard about where Jade could be. The fact that he couldn't reach her had frightened him. She was always reachable and with this feeling in the pit of his stomach, he began to feel sick.

" need a seat? You lookin' pale." Spoke Dev as they entered their dormitory.

"Nah man, I'm good." He waved him off. The boys were about to walk by the lobby where most of the students spent their spare time to relax and play pool or fooseball. It was the main source of entertainment in the building.

"What's the deal?" Asked Ryder, noticing the high volume of male students in front of the television, concerned looks on their faces. Josiah's brows sunk in curiosity as they joined their company. He glued his eyes on the screen of the television and found them watching the news. A surveillance video of a highway crash involving a truck, a dodge caravan and a black range rover was shown.

"Ey yo, Lukah. What's goin' on?" Asked Dev to one of their friends.

"Some dude lost control of his whip, got side swiped by a truck, and swerved into another lane and a minivan crashed smack into it. Flipped like three times and then s*** caught fire too..f***ed up. They keep replaying the video." Returned Lukah. Josiah tried to listen to the story, but after the words "Range rover" were said, he tuned out.

Colby drove a range rover.

"Ey y'all they sayin' it's students from U of A that was in the range." Spoke a random voice from the group. Josiah's heart beat hard from the inside. Nearly rose to his throat.

He watched the video closely for any sign. Any identification. Anything.

"Leaving two injured..investigators say the two University of Atlanta students involved in the crash are said to go by the names of Colby Joseph Hart age twenty-one and Jade Rose Vice, age twenty-one.." Spoke the journalist as Josiah zoned in on the report.

"Dawg that's Vice!" Yelled Ryder, breathlessly.

"s***." Cursed Dev sadly.

Josiah lost his breath. He couldn't hear anything anymore. Just the pounding of his heart inside of his chest. He tried to catch his breath but found it impossible. He brought his eyes onto Ryder for some kind of sign that this wasn't reality and that all he had to do was breathe and everything would be okay, but the looks on both of his friends faces told him the opposite.

Tears were brought to the surface of his reddened eyes.

"Wha-..." He tried to speak, but his lips quivered and his chest heaved making the task too impossible. Ryder and Dev were quick to be at his side. Worry and panic brought to both of their eyes as well.

"Come on. We gotta go." Said Dev ushering Josiah's unmoving body towards the door.

"Police say that the twenty-one year old male was fighting consciousness some of the time, while the truck driver who chooses to remain anonymous, tried to get him out of the car before it caught fire. He is now in stable condition. The female's condition is said to be critical and we have yet to hear any updates. Both people were rushed to Piedmont Hospital.." Josiah caught the newscaster say.

Awww, RUN IT!!!

u playing with our emotions leaving it right there! Josiah is gonna be crushed when he finds out what happens.. I hope they survive tho.. RUN IT
