"Let The Drummer Kick"

As Citizen Cope gracefully soothed her mind, she stood companionless in the middle of the empty community college gymnasium right in the middle of the faint halfway line of the basketball court, looking pleasant and light-hearted on the outside, but feeling nervous and disgruntled on the inside.

With the ball trapped just between the fat on her bicep and ribcage, she looked up at the horribly painted red and white walls and read the different banners and pennants from previous years and even before her time that hung there decorating the walls. There were plenty for her to go through.

A quick indrawn breath escaped her lips.

"I hate transferring.." she mumbled under her breath.

Because her music was so loud, she wasn't able to hear the sound of a whistle being blown from the coaches lips as he trudged in front of his team of varsity senior boys. As the screeching sound came to an end it was replaced by the squeak of twelve different pairs of sneakers pacing against the freshly waxed wood floors of the gymnasium.

In single file they ran behind one another. The vibration coming from the floors underneath her feet is what snapped at her attention. She turned to her left and in time she caught sight of the team running laps around her. She met eyes with their feet until she met with the last pair and brought her eyes up to the face of the owner.

<a href="">Josiah</a> jogged at a good pace behind his team making sure no one fell behind and everyone stayed in line, but every few seconds his attention was pulled over to the girl standing in the middle of the court. His eyes didn't want to stay on her for long, but something wouldn't let him pull away. Her presence was like a gravitational pull. He couldn't see her face for a while until he came around the front end of the court to catch her staring at the ground by his feet, he wanted a better look though, so he kept his eyes locked on her face for as long as he could and as if she felt his burning stare, she finally looked up from his traveling shoes, to his eyes.

They were locked on one another.

She wasn't sure why she felt the need to stare, her mother had taught her better than that.

A tap on her shoulder had her snap out of her mind and around to face the person whom the finger belonged to. The coach stared down at her with questioning eyes, causing her to squint in confusion before she removed a bud from her ear.

"I said I'm sorry, this is a closed practice. No spectators miss..." Asked the well built <a href="">man</a> in all Adidas wear.

"J-Jade..Vice." She stuttered, nerves getting the upper hand.

"Ahh, from the Wakelin Community College Hornets varsity team, right?" Asked the coach. <a href="">Jade</a> nodded shortly before letting her eyes dart over to the jogging team, coincidently landing on Josiah's once again.

"I heard through the grapevine that you'd be joining us soon. I'm Coach Mack. It's nice to meet you." Said the coach holding out his hand for her to shake.

She tore her eyes away once she saw that he was looking right back at her. She wondered if he were staring at her, or the conversation between her and his coach. Looking out in front of her she joined hands with Coach Mack and smiled small.

"Nice to meet you too, Coach." She replied softly.

"You trying out tomorrow afternoon? My girls varsity could really use a good point guard. Emphasis on the "good" part." He asked with a brow raised. Jade smirked dryly. She wasn't so sure she wanted to go through the whole process of joining a team again. She had been snatched right out of her comfort zone and dropped into a brand new life that she knew nothing about.

"I'm not sure I want to this time around..too much I gotta do right now with classes and catching up and what not..I don't know.." She answered with a simple shrug of her shoulders.

"Give it some thought, and if you decide it's what you want..then I'll see you here tomorrow at 2:30pm sharp." He rested a comforting hand on her shoulder, patting it gently. Jade offered him a smiled and nodded.

"Transition's always tough but, you're gonna like it here..and I'd love to have you on our team Miss. Vice." He encouraged. Jade, feeling very conflicted at the moment, only smirked at his words.

"Thanks Coach.." She spoke lowly, almost instantly falling into a depression over the matter. She'd have a new coach, a new team even. Building relationships with people was never her strong point.

Josiah had managed to perfect the art of not seeming like a creep in the time he'd been running laps with his team. His teammate for a year, <a href="">Ryder</a>, spun around on his heels and began jogging backwards, grabbing Josiah's attention.

"Ey dawg, who's that talkin' with coach? I ain't never seen him so nice, even with girls." He asked eyeing the two bodies in the middle of the court as his face twisted up in confusion. Josiah only shook his head and looked back over to her, thinking that since Ryder was doing it, there was no way he'd look weird doing it as well. He couldn't see her face anymore, only her back and the outline of her small frame. She was tall, but not freakishly tall in his opinion. He judged by the ball tucked underneath her arm that she was a baller, which immediately caught his attention when he first laid eyes on her.

"I don't even know man. Look like she a baller though." He breathed trying to pace himself and speak to his friend, who shrugged and returned to his jog, spinning on his feet to face the front once again.

Jade locked eyes with him for what must had been the fourth time now. She couldn't deny that from where he was he looked absolutely gorgeous. His glistening caramel complexion and tattoos really did wonders for him. His toned legs and defined biceps really had her taking second looks. He had almost all of her attention.

"Give it some still gotta go though. It's still a closed practice." Smiled Coach Mack. Jade pulled her eyes off of the boy and focused on the man, delivering a light hearted chuckle and a nod.

"See you around Coach." She paid one last look at the team and then the last runner, catching his eyes yet again before she turned on the heels of her shoes and trailed out of the gym at a smooth pace.

From what she could gather the coach was a cool and down to earth man. He was young, and vibrant with every word he spoke. She liked that.

Josiah watched as she retreated out of the gym. Her long flowing dark hair sweeping her cheeks as she moved with a calm he hadn't seen anyone walk with in a while. He wondered what her story was, knowing by the way she looked at him, that she has one.

"Ey Coach can we stop man?!" Yelled a tired Ryder. The coach laughed and blew on his whistle, signaling for them to stop and meet in the middle of the court to do some stretching.

"Ey Coach who was that fine piece of tail you was talkin' to?" Asked another of Josiah's of teammates and friend, <a href="">Dev</a>. Coach Mack threw him a look.

"A piece of tail you will never get to Devon, so hush." He told him. The gym was then filled with laughter. Josiah had to laugh himself.

"I see you Coach.." Muttered Dev with a sour look.

"Nah but for real though Coach..who she be?" asked Josiah with curiosity written in the creases of his forehead. Coach Mack looked over at the captain of the senior varsity team and smirked.

"I'm surprised you don't already know." He said. The boys all looked at one another with confusion.

"Jade Vice. Former point guard for the Wakelin Community College Hornets. She transferred from there last week. She's well known back where she's from." He told them, watching as they switched stretches.

"Which is?" Asked Ryder.

"Brooklyn." He replied.

"Woo..damn! Shorty came a long way dawg. From Brooklyn to Atlanta?" Spoke Dev. Josiah's eyebrows raised in slight surprise. That was quite a random change in scenery. Shaking his head, he also shook her out of his thoughts knowing he had better things to worry about.

"Aight, aight enough with that talk. Let's go everybody to the base line! I want suicides let's go!" Said the coach as he blew his whistle and watched the boys jog to the base line, ready to work hard.

"We got our first game of the school year on Friday! Exactly one week! First game of the semester! And I want a win! So we gon' work! Let me see y'all put in work!" His yells echoed throughout the gym as he strolled along the half way line with his hands behind his back. The teams feet pounded against the wooden floors leaving skid marks at every line.

As Jade stood outside the gym she was immediately met with the fresh air of the day, the breeze was calm and sun was bright and high in the afternoon sky. The campus was flooded with students mingling and horse playing with each other in their groups. Jade stood there, alone and in her own world as she looked over everything in front of her. This was the view of her life now. Things were so different from her city life.

Digging into her pants pocket, she pulled out the folded paper with the directions to her dorm room and the blueprint to the college campus. She read over the title at the top of the page.

<em>Welcome to University of Atlanta!</em>

Groaning internally, she began to move in the direction which she hoped was right and would take her to her dormitory.

<em>"Let the drummer kick, let the drummer kick that.."</em>

Adding like a mad woman, because I'm coming down with a cold or flu and once this thing gets serious..I will be UNABLE to post, knowing myself. Enjoy and Run for me!

Much love.

Sooooooooooooooo gooooooooooooooood!!!

Josiah pulled up into the campus parking lot. It looked as though another storm was coming around as the skies grew darker and the sun disappeared behind the clouds. None of them had said a word since they left Charlie's. None of them were sure of what to say, or where to start. Josiah turned the key in the ignition, turning off the engine and settled back into his seat. A solemn look crossed his face.

"...he's ashamed of me." Whispered Jade sadly, looking down at her fingers in her lap.

Josiah said nothing. He remained void. Jade couldn't stand the silent treatment any longer and turned to face her body to him. His eyes were fixed forward regardless and she sighed.

She could see the damage she had caused in their friendship.

"Zi-" the sound of her ringing phone cut her off and she went to answer it quickly.

"Hey T." She said tearing her eyes off of Josiah.

"..When are you coming back?.....tomorrow night, okay.............yeah sure, I'll tell coach.......alright. Hope everything's you too...bye." Jade hung up. Josiah looked to her quickly before looking back ahead of himself.

"What's wrong with T?" He asked. Jade sighed.

"Family emergency that she'll tell me about when she gets back. She had to leave and isn't coming back till tomorrow night. Wanted me to tell coach for her. She's lucky tonight's game is cancelled..I just hope everything's okay." Spoke Jade with concern for her friend. She seemed okay over the phone, but Jade knew better than to assume.

Josiah nodded a response and Jade sighed growing frustrated.

"Christmas break is about to approach and you're still gonna hate me?" She asked. Josiah sighed licking his plump lips. Jade caught the action and frowned deeper, missing that habit.

It felt like she was so far away from him.

"Zi, please." She begged.

"I don't hate you." He answered lowly, looking down at his lap. Jade sighed in relief to have him responding to her.

"Could have fooled me.." She smirked sadly.

"What you want me to do Vice? Huh? Chase you? I ain't down for all that." Josiah spat, letting out his frustration for Jade. She bowed her head in guilt.

"I'm sorry, I hurt you. I never meant for things to end up like this." She apologized genuinely only hoping that he would accept it. He never said a thing.

"Zi, I miss you." She confessed.

Josiah exhaled. It was good to know even still.

"Look I ain't trynna hurt you by ignoring you. I just can't..pretend with you. I won't." He told her. Jade nodded in understanding.

"I deserve to be ignored. I've been a horrible friend to you. I can see that by the look on your face everyday you walk by. I'm sorry." She said, voice cracking.

"So you know you hurt me, but still you ain't gon' do anything to fix that?" He asked in disbelief.

"What do you want me to do?!--"

"Be honest with yourself! Stop denyin' that you feel for me the way I do for you and admit that dude is just a front!" He yelled losing his patience.

Jade shook her head feeling the tear leave the brim of her eye.

"I can't just do something like that! Colby doesn't deserve that--"

"I don't deserve it either!" He retalliated. Jade sniffed.

He was right, he didn't deserve the short end either. Josiah deserved so much more. More than her.

"Dude's afraid to tell his own family about you! Yeah. I heard everything. That s***s whack Jade, how you trynna stick around for that s***?--"

"Don't what! Be honest with ya ass? Why not?! Somebody has to be!...if you're so sure you and Colby meant to be then why you ain't with him right now? Why you here with me?" Pointed out Josiah, trying to break down her wall of denial.

He was fighting, for her, for love. At this point he had had enough of sitting around in the background with a hurting heart that tugged in Jades direction.

Jade's head was spinning with thoughts. The bright white zig-zagged streak in the sky made her jump in her seat.

A storm was coming.

Shaking her head she rushed out of the car with her bag in hand.

Josiah sucked his teeth and grabbed his keys from the ignition and climbed quickly out of the car to follow behind her, into her dormitory.

Welp, Colby's out of the picture. Time for Josiah to step in lol.

Damn Colby!!! You f***ed up!!! Big time. I don't think there's any fixing this!! Josiah to the rescue!! I know this has to hurt. Damn!

Damnnnnnnn he could've at least told her...but that's what she wanted and look.what happened to you...hurt and pain...SMH Jade jade jade...lowkey I would have never expected that...

That's what you get Colby with yo high school musical ass...ha!

"Your quiet today." Examined Colby as he sat in front of Jade inside of Charlie's Diner eating lunch. Jade played with her food, slashing fries around her tray.

"Jay?" He called to her absent ears. She never replied, she was so deep inside of her mind.

"Jade." He said firmer, snapping her out of it. She straightened in her seat and looked him sadly in the eyes. Colby frowned.

"Babe, what's wrong?--"

"Are you afraid to tell your family that you're dating a black women?" She blurted out. Colby seemed caught off-guard and grabbed a tissue to wipe his mouth while clearing his throat. He never said a word, but his actions were good enough to answer her question.

Jade nodded and grabbed her backpack off of the floor and stood to her feet, leaving the diner. Colby was quick to leave money on the table and follow her out.

He caught up to her and grabbed her arm softly to stop her, but she snatched it away and turned to face him.

"Don't!" She seethed as her anger unleashed itself. Colby's arm dropped to his side in shock.

"I met your brother today and I introduced myself only to find out that he didn't even know who I was!" She yelled in the parking lot.

"Of course he knows who you are, I talk about you all of the time!--"

"No! He doesn't! He doesn't know that I'm black Colby! That's who I am! And you couldn't tell him that.." Colby looked away from her in guilt. Jade shook her head.

"Did you think I would just never meet him and find out?! How stupid was that on your part!" She spat beginning to walk away.

"Jay wait!" He said trying to grab her again, but again, she pulled away.

"Your parents don't even know who I am, do they?" She asked.

"Do they!" She shouted fighting back tears. Colby's face saddened as his eyes turned red.

"You're..ashamed of me?--"

"No! Of course not--"

"Then why don't they know?! Why haven't you said anything! Why haven't I met them?!--"

"Because they won't accept us being together!..Not like I do.." He admit. Jade felt the crack down the middle of her chest.

"How could you not tell me something like that?" She whispered. Colby inched closer to her.

"I'm sorry, I was..I was afraid I didn't--"

"You're only sorry, because you got weren't gonna tell me--"

"I was gonna tell you I swear! I just, I was trying to find a way how--"

""Jade, my parents don't want me dating a black person." Would have been good enough! I mean what the f*** Colby!" She said running a hand through her hair.

"Jade please, you're overreacting--"

"No! I'm hurt!" She let a tear escape. Colby's heart ached.

"I...opened up to you. I let you in kept that from me.--"

"Jade it doesn't matter what they think! I don't think that way! I love you--"

"It matters to me!.. Your family's approval matters to me Colby. Okay? just does.." She said. Silence fell over them. Jade turned to walk away again, but Colby reached for her one more time, the fear of losing her heavy on his heart, but she turned around and shoved him back.

"DON'T!" She bellowed looking him dead in the eye. Pain evident in her eyes. Whipping around to walk away she came face to chest with someone else.

Looking up she found <a href="">Josiah</a> standing there, concern and seriousness written on his face as he stared straight ahead at Colby who looked angrily back at him.

"..You good?" Asked Josiah keeping his hands to his side and his eyes on Colby.

He had heard everything.

The raspy melody of his voice brought a calm to Jade that she desperately missed. She sniffed and wiped her eyes.

"..yeah. I was just leaving." She said with a thick voice filled with sadness.

Josiah broke the staring match with Colby to look down at Jade. He tried hard to keep his voice void of any emotion before speaking.

"..come on." He said, leading the way to his parked car.

Jade eyed his back as it moved further away from her. She turned to look at Colby one last time and saw the sad yet angry expression on his face and followed behind Josiah, leaving Colby alone with himself in the middle of the parking lot.

That's who she wanted, though.

They get into this thing too, of depending on each other for every lil thing!! You don't need to talk to Josiah. You need to talk to COLBY!!! Foh, what the hell J gon do? Tell you to talk to Colby, or convince you to leave him. Take that on somewhere and talk to ya man about it. I hope Colby isn't keeping Jade a secret forreal. That would suck. Esp after they did it.

Jade made her way through the wide hall to her morning english class, thinking happy thoughts. She couldn't get what happened between Colby and her out if her mind. It was harder to tear herself away from him now, but she didn't mind.

She gasped when she absently bumped into another body. She stumbled back clutching her arms around her books and watched as the stranger's made its way to the ground.

"Shhhit. My bad, I wasn't paying attention--"

"Nope, no it's alright. I was the one rushing." Chuckled the guy bent over in front of her. As he stood to his feet Jade had realized who the person was and smiled. He grinned warmly back at her.

"Um, <a href="">Toby</a> right?" She asked nervously. There stood Colby's older brother that she had been meeting for the first time. She grinned in memory of all of the stories Colby had told her about him. He had described his brother to be a true role model and a soft, caring gentlemen that would do anything for his little brother. Jade had developed a respect for him without even meeting him and felt like she knew him already.

Sure she had seen him around, but the two had never exchanged words and every time Jade had gone to Colby's room, Toby was never there. She wondered why it had taken almost two months to meet him after meeting Colby and being in a relationship with him.

"I am. Aaaaand you are?" He smiled politely, revealing his charming smile much like the one in all of the pictures she had seen around Colby's room. He stretched out his hand to shake. Jade's brow sunk in momentarily in confusion.

"Uh-Jade..Jade Vice." She introduced herself. The unfamiliarity on his face was substituted by a look of surprise.

"You're Jade..Colby's Jade?.." Asked Toby with a nervous smile. He seemed puzzled to her.

"Uh yeah, his girlfriend, yes." She answered with a grin nonetheless. Toby gave her a quick once over.

"Cole never told me you were..this beautiful." He smiled, releasing her hand. His face was concentrated. Jade frowned.

"He's told you something, I hope." She grinned trying to cover up her sadness. He chuckled fake. Jade frowned again. It seemed as if he tried to cover up his surprise. Jade was catching onto what was going on the harder Toby stared at her.

"He never told you I was black." she filled in the blank with a dull tone. Toby's looked like a deer caught in headlights as his mouth fell open a little.

"No-it's's not that I--I'm not racist or anything like that--"

"Don't worry, I believe you." She replied calmly. Her mind was too focused on Colby and why he had kept her ethnicity a secret from his family. She wondered if he were ashamed of her. Not once had Colby mentioned meeting his parents. Now that she thought about it, she wasn't even sure if they knew who she was.

"Look, sorry about bumping into you. I've got an early class I have to get to though. It was great to meet you Toby." She said ready to leave the awkward circle that had formed around her and Colby's older brother.

"Uh, it was my fault really..and it was great meeting you too Jade." He replied scratching behind his head before walking off. Jade turned to watch him leave.

Her mind raced as she resumed her walk to class. She felt the hurt blanket her. She couldn't believe what she had just discovered. After what had taken place only two nights ago, she was finding it hard to breath for a moment. She exhaled shakily at the thought of her never fitting into Colby's life because of the color of her skin, never getting the approval from his loved ones. At the thought of him keeping this a secret from her throughout their entire relationship.

All Jade found herself wanting to do in that moment, was talk to Josiah and ask what he thought about this whole situation and receive his comfort, but she knew she couldn't. She ached to see him even still, wanting to see if he was in one piece since she couldn't call him, or talk to him and find out, but upon entry, she noticed his empty seat.

Pausing in front of the door she sighed and a deep frown etched upon her face as she made her way up to her seat.

Yet another day without him.

She wasn't sure how much longer she could let this go on between them. Especially now.

Well they did f*** so what Ryder and what kinda friend is yo ass nigga? Especially if you knew! Wtf!

run it!!!! Ryder's right but they had sex...which could change everything entirely

Well Ryder is gonna be sadly mistaken when he finds out that they "f***ed". Lol They made love and I'm proud of Jade. She's going with her heart right now. Like she said, "if he's a beautiful mistake, then its one she's glad to make". YASS JADE!!

I agree Josiah gotta kill the saltyness. Stop moping around. Everyone knows! If he wants he gotta fight for her, but again maybe time is what she needs to be who you want her to be.

But they did f***! ... smh. ..that's all I can say right now. I'm so angry at Jade. I don't want Josiah to love her anymore. I want him to fall for someone worthy of his love! .. I'm so disgusted.

<strong>Sunday Night..</strong>

Ryder had been coming up the stairs when he saw his roommate sitting there looking at nothing in particular, with a distant look. He had just come back from his parents for the weekend. Josiah looked up as he dapped him up.

"What's up nigga?" Asked Ryder. Josiah nodded not returning any words. Ryder analyzed him carefully.

"You hit up ya crib this weekend? I saw Mariah on my way back here, she was gettin' off the bus. Told me to tell you to find a way to call her later, it's important." Told Ryder. Josiah wondered what she could possibly want. They rarely even spoke anymore, so news that she wanted to talk about something was surprising to him.

"Nah, I was here all weekend. I don't go there no more. Pops still trippin'. Hasn't come to one game since last time I went there." Spoke Josiah emotionlessly. Ryder shook his head in disappointment.

"Ey man, I don't know what's up with you lately, but coach be gettin worried and s***. You been hella aggressive on the court and whatnot. Wanted me to come and talk to what's up?" Asked Ryder as he took a seat next to Josiah in the stairwell of their dormitory.

"So, he the reason?" He questioned. Josiah inhaled and ran a hand down his face.

"Nah man.." He answered coming back to reality. He had zoned out without realizing it.

"Is it Meely?" Ryder tried again.

"Nah." He shook his head.

"..Is it Vice? I mean, I noticed y'all ain't really kickin' it no more..y'all fall out?" Said Ryder. Josiah's jaw tightened. He gave himself away.

"Look man, if there's one thing I've learned about women, it's to never let em' get under your skin. No matter how cute. s*** ain't worth the headache." Advised Ryder patting Josiah's shoulder and continued his way up the steps to their floor.

"It ain't that easy when you in love with one that don't wanna love you back.." Spoke Josiah, voice dull and empty. Ryder paused his journey.

"It's about time you said that s*** out loud. Damn nigga.." Joked Ryder as he turned around on a step and climbed down one, taking a seat next to his friend.

"What you mean about time?" Josiah asked with a puzzled look.

"I knew you were feelin' Vice. Hell, everybody knows! Even Coach knows! s***, maybe my mama knows." Exclaimed Ryder earning a dry look from Josiah.

"We'll don't try and front. You don't hide it well. I been knowin' ever since you started kissin'her hello and goodbye on the face and s***. Nigga, you ain't slick." Ryder smacked his lips. Josiah shook his head.

"Had I known you'd be all in ya feelings I would have never introduced Colby to her, but then's probably because of him that you even realized your feelings for Vice. That explains why you been hatin' on ya boy lately." Said Ryder with a shrug.

"Kill all that. Ain't nobody hatin on nobody." Spat Josiah in a childish manner.

"Man, you in deep nigga. Jade got you actin' sour as f***. You like a-a old lady who forgot her glasses somewhere out of reach or some s***. Shake up nigga!" Snapped Ryder.

"The f*** you want me to do? Jade don't want me. She wants Colby, clearly."

"If there's one thing I know for sure, it's that you ain't no weak nigga. You want something, go get it. Simple. Stop b****in and mopin around. You're pissin me the f*** off with all that s***. You ain't no soft nigga. Tighten up. Colby don't stand a chance. Trust me...They ain't even f***ed yet!" Ryder said.

"I thought Colby was ya boy?" Josiah's brows sunk.

"Ey, Colby's cool and all. I respect him, but I'm still a real nigga. I tell it like it is and I'm this close to tellin' him to throw in the towel. Plus you been my boy, so believe me when I say that that nigga ain't got s*** on you. Jade don't even love dude, it's obvious she feelin' you more. Always askin' me for you since y'all ain't talkin'. She miss the s*** out you my nigga." Spoke Ryder.

"Man why you ain't say nothin' if you knew?" Josiah sucked his teeth. Ryder smirked and shrugged revealing a dimple.

"It was hella amusing to watch." He laughed patting Josiah shoulder.

Josiah rubbed his face and rubbed his temples in agitation.

"Man I can't deal with this." He complained.

"Nigga the issue at hand ain't that hard to solve. You love ya girl...go get her--"

"She don't want me!" Fired Josiah.

"She does. Jade just frontin'. She just needs a little push in the right push her." Said Ryder standing to his feet to leave.

"She loves you dawg. Jade a fool if she thinks nobody else could see that..I know I can." Said Ryder before disappearing out of the stairwell leaving Josiah with his thoughts.

Colby's choice, "Count Me In" by Early Winters played softly in the background throughout the room. Jade straddled Colby's waist and rested her head on his bare chest. She listened to the heartbeat within him. It was a quiet Saturday 3:00AM morning and neither of them could sleep a wink. Colby had decided to stay on campus that weekend with Jade since her parents were away again on business. Tina had left along with everyone else as far as they knew. Her and Jade never ended up talking about Josiah. She had taken off with Dev right after the game and Jade had simply forgot.

She had only just begun to grow used to the idea of spending her early mornings indoors. She couldn't go out to the field, because of the chilly December weather, so she knew she had no choice but to settle inside.

Thankfully, Colby was comforting enough.

<em>"Half a mile out knew deep in, hooked on a dream that is reeling me in.."</em>

He combed absently through Jade's hair and played with single strands here and there. His eyes faced the window, looking out at the moon.

"Where do you see yourself in ten years?" He asked aloud, his voice tired and lazy, yet calm and clear. Jade inhaled and travelled through time in her head.

"Probably...working as a personal support worker..with one accidental yet blessing in disguise love child....a cozy condo..and.....yeah. I don't know. I can't really tell where I'm going yet." Smiled Jade as Colby ran his other hand down her back, rubbing gently.

<em>"Flowers on fire in a black and white film.."</em>

"What about your significant other?...I mean you had to create that "love child" somehow right?" He smirked. Jade chuckled.

"We'll if you play your cards right..maybe you'll be lucky enough to help me." She replied softly.

Relaxation covered her like a blanket. Colby continued to soothe her body as they lay there and it felt perfect, but Josiah somehow found his way back into the center of her mind.

"Ryder told me what happened in the locker room.." Spilled Jade. Colby sighed.

"Yeah.." He answered keeping his gaze on the moon.

"Why didn't you?" She asked moving her head to look at him. She could see up his clean nose from her angle. Colby never looked at her. He shrugged.

"Wasn't a big deal. He was just frustrated over the game. What's important is that we made it into the tournament." Said Colby.

<em>"Curtains of rain on the pier.."</em>

"He was wrong even still." Spoke Jade. Colby folded his lips in. He didn't want to think about Josiah and his behavior towards him lately. He just wanted to enjoy his time with his girlfriend.

"Cole?" Called Jade. After a moment Colby faced her, taking his eyes off of the white circle in the sky.

<em>"Caught like a wheel in a groove.."</em>

"Lets go out for a walk. You could take me to the field." He answered her. Jade pushed herself up slightly.

"It's cold out.." She answered earning an amused smirk from Colby.

"I've seen you outside in freezing rain in nothing but a t-shirt before. This won't faze you. Come on." He said smacking her thigh gently signaling her to sit up. He removed himself from her bed and walked over to her desk to grab his t-shirt and shove it over his head.

Jade dragged herself to the edge of the bed, eyes on Colby and all of his beauty. The way his muscles flexed as they moved had all of her attention.

<em>"I'm cranking it big, but it don't wanna move.."</em>

Although Josiah wasn't around to keep her company, she loved that Colby was able to fill the gap, though not completely, it was still enough to get her through the day. He loved to be spontaneous and random and was always up for whatever. It was things like that, that made Jade never once regret her decision. Colby was a beautiful person through and through, sent to her from God himself for a reason that she wanted to uncover.

Jade couldn't hold back the smile.

<em>"Count me in ouhh.."</em>

"Come on, come on." He ushered her off the bed and passed her some track pants. He grabbed her keys and ID for her and shoved them in his pocket. After she quickly shoved on her pants, Colby pulled her over to the closet where he grabbed a toque and a scarf that Jade had worn earlier. She giggled as he placed them on her person.

"Cole I look like an idiot." She said. Colby smiled down at her, giving Jade butterflies.

"Yeah, but you're my idiot. Come on." He said grabbing her hand, not giving her a chance to reply before they rushed out of the door.

Jade could see her breath in front of her as she exhaled.

"Why the hell is it so cold?! Cole you're gonna catch a cold you have no jacket!" Exclaimed Jade as she crossed her arms over her chest. Colby stood in front of her on the field, unfazed by the weather.

"I'm white. I'm okay." He joked earning a laugh from Jade. He grinned in return.

"You're stupid." She smiled.

Colby shrugged with a nonchalance and hands in his pockets. He smiled as he admired her adorableness. All he wanted was to hold her close. So, he stuck out his hand.

"Come here." He beckoned. Jade blushed under the moonlight and travelled into his waiting embrace. Colby wrapped his arms around her waist and held her close.

<em>"When the lightening hits the lake.."</em>

"Have I told you how beautiful you are?.." He whispered.

"All the time." Smiled Jade.

She felt like losing herself in his eyes, he was so open to her, so available and it comforted her to no end. She trusted him. She could see it in his eyes, that he would never hurt her.

<em>"You'll know how it feels to want you and wait.."</em>

Colby dove into her soul the moment he could see it in her eyes. The way she looked at him was different in that moment. Something was happening within her.

Jade could stare any longer. She chose Colby for a reason, she wasn't sure what it was, but she knew she could only find it if she let him in.

<em>"Count me in ouhh.."</em>

Diving forward, she planted a kiss so powerful that even Colby had to take a moment to register what was happening.

The kiss was passionate and hungry. Jade held a hand behind Colby's head to deepen it, his hands travelled up and down her body. Colby's tongue begged for entrance and Jade's mouth opened, allowing him to enter and together they wrestled. Their bodies stumbled around the field almost losing their balance a few times.

<em>"Count me in ouhh.."</em>

Colby and Jade stumbled into her empty room. Tangled up in each other. As the door shut, Jade's body was slammed up against it and Colby's body was instantly taped to her again, minus his shirt. He moved his hands down to her waist, playing with the flesh underneath as her shirt rose. He pushed it up and over her body leaving her hair in a mess. Colby wasted no time placing his hands on her behind and raising her up to straddle his waist while still being pinned against the door. His hardened member pressed up against Jades crotch in an effort to get her to know how much he wanted her.

<em>"Count me in ouhh.."</em>

Jade moaned into his mouth at the feel of him in between her. The only thing separating them was two pairs of pants. Jade didn't want anymore barriers between them. Not one.

<a href="">Colby</a> carried her over to the bed and collapsed with himself on top, never breaking the kiss. Jade unbuttoned the button on his jeans and began to remove the material from his body. Colby helped, moving his legs up and all over until they were completely shed from him.

A powerful mood was set between the both of them. Jade felt a fire fanning in her belly that she desperately wanted to put out. Left and right clothes were discarded until it was just them and nothing else.

Colby kissed down Jade's neck to her navel, sucking the skin around it before he travelled back up to plant a hungry kiss on her lips. His hand went straight to her heat, cupping it whole causing Jade to moan into his mouth.

<em>"Count me in.."</em>

"I want you." Colby moaned into hers before sucking her bottom lip.

Jade held his face between her hands feeling like he want close enough for her liking. She thrust upward so that his member rubbed against her entrance. Colby groaned and clenched his jaw and shut his eyes quickly before peeling them wide open. He peered down into Jades lust filled eyes.

"...are you sure?" He asked wanting to make sure. He knew how much this mattered to Jade and didn't want her regretting this step.

<em>"Count me in ouhh.."</em>

"..yes." She answered breathlessly. It was now or never.

Colby kissed her.

"I love you. I will never hurt you." He whispered against her mouth. Jade nodded as a tear left her eye and travelled lonely down her cheek. Colby went to kiss it away as he positioned himself at he entrance.

He looked back into her eyes one last time.

<em>"Count me in ouhh.."</em>

"..breathe in.." He whispered guiding her through. As Jade shakily took in oxygen, he pushed himself into her slowly. Bit by bit he disappeared and Jade released a pained moan.

"'s okay.."Colby hushed softly. He stayed put so that she could adapt to him and captured her lips in a kiss to hush her. He didn't want to cause her any pain.

Pulling slowly back out, Jade exhaled into his mouth and moaned once more as he entered his full length into her again and again.

He made sure to be gentle and paid close attention to Jade. Her nails dug into his back, leaving a trail of marks he was sure. It was the thrusting of her hips that let him know that she had grown used to him.

<em>"Count me in ouhh.."</em>

"You okay?" He asked pulling out their kiss. Jade nodded, tear streaks decorated her cheeks.

"..I'm okay." She cried before trapping him in a passionate kiss.

<em>"Count meee in.."</em>

Jade knew that this was a big step for her, she knew that this was huge and she was glad that Colby had been the one to help her through it. He erased any pained memories left from her accident and helped her turn something so traumatic into something so alleviating. She wasn't afraid anymore. She was able to trust a man with her heart and her body. Her feelings for Colby were strong and that comforted her. This wasn't a fling. This was something real to her. She was sure that God had put him in her life for a reason. She was sorry that she had to hurt Josiah, but she couldn't be what he wanted her to be to him. Not now. She wanted to be with Colby.

Maybe she wasn't in love with him, but she had plenty of love for him and that was enough for her right now. Sticking with him wasn't a mistake and if it was, it was a beautiful one, and she had no problem learning from it.

Run It!!
